Hello all,

Like many other N gauge modellers this little beauty has arrived.

I’ve only had a quick glance at it and she looks fantastic! The one thing that always impresses me with RevolutioN is the attention to detail with its packaging, before you even open the box it’s impressive! Superb!

I need a chip for this as I’m moving over to full DCC, once it’s here I’ll stick a video on line.

Talking of DCC, The two pendolinos I have are standard DC and I need to chip them up, when i saw a sound fitted unit on eBay i thought I’d have a punt, it’s arrived and needs some TLC but i’m sure it’ll be ok.

cheers

Hello all,

The 321 has been fitted with a gaugemaster chip and is currently running in, little bit fiddly to get the body off but worked out ok, I’ve got a slight flicker on one of the driving cars which needs some investigating, all in all another superb model from RevolutioN.

Whilst the unit is bedding itself in I’ve had a test with some ballast on the concrete track,  tried two different colours but think I’m going to settle on a mix of the two.

Hello all,

I haven’t completed the track work yet, but fancy doing some scenic work on the embankment just to have somewhere to video and photograph the trains.

Air brush came out to attack the rails, simple job of masking up the sleepers and giving the sides a blast of colour, the track will all be weathered in situ once the ballast is laid but I now like to do the rails first just to give some variation.

Hello all,

A sneaky ballast train popped in overnight to drop a test section, old school motive power made an appearance too.

Hawk eyed viewers may see the backscene is ruined, like an idiot when I air brushed the track some over spray has flicked up onto it, I’ll try to remove it with some thinners but a replacement may be necessary.

Looking good Graham, that's a very neat class 58. How did you do some of the detailing around the cab front. It is superb.

The layouts coming along nicely as well. Shame about the Backscene, but fingers crossed a little thinners will help fix it.

All the best,

Dave

Hi Dave,

unfortunately I can’t take any credit for the 58, it’s a Mercig engine, Ian does a first class job with detailing and weathering.

cheers

Graham.

He certainly does, that's a wonderful loco.

Any luck with the backscene?

All the best,

Dave

Hi Dave,

Short answer, no, I tried this evening to rub it off with thinners on a cotton bud, it does remove the paint but also takes off the coating used on the bsckscene, it’s knackered!
Two choices, leave it with Nicks suggestion of dodgy brown birds or replace it, I think I’ll go with the latter.

Love the sound!

But is it not going to seem odd having all that noise when trains are off-scene? Is there an easy way in DCC just to have the sound when the loco is on the visible part of the layout?

Depends how sophisticated you want to get. I have a Railcomm detection section on the entry/exit to my hidden section (where the fiddle yard is). Because Railcomm reports the loco address the computer issues a mute command when it detects a loco on the way in and a series of volume up commands on the way out. I use the same detection to turn off lights on the way in and turn them on again on the way out.

Cheers

Dave

Hello all,

I have been slightly distracted from track laying and added some greenery to a small section on the embankment, makes the photos a little better.

When the mainlines were laid I added a cant to the curves, I didn’t want to go over the top and even though it’s awkward to photo I don’t think it looks to bad.

Looks really natural now. The backscene is impressive, is it a commercial one or have you had it printed yourself?

David

Hi David,

The backscene is a commercial one, can’t remember the product number but it’s a self adhesive version from ID backscenes, got a feeling they’ve changed names too??
