RMweb Premium newbryford Posted April 17, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted April 17, 2021 Time for an autorack. I've downloaded a few screenshots of autoracks with full body tagging and then polled a few mates on which one I should attempt. Because they aren't my pics and some were video grabs, I can't post the pics here. I had already taken out my least favourite ones before showing them my short list - and they all chose the same one. First job was a layer of grey primer and then the base coat of acrylic blue. I then stuck a line of masking tape across the roof line and marked off the spacing between the letters comparing them to the pic Using a black paint pen (from Posca), I marked the general letter spacing More masking was applied to determine the verticla elements of the letters. More black paint pen and the outline is ready Shading added A white paint pen with the counter shading and filing in the gaps with a pale yellow acrylic (the prototype vehicle has a different yellow to that of the end panels) As a comparison for size, this is a H0 autorack alongside a 00 MMA 7

Nice job on that, I've seen the same car on a Virtual Railfan video and screenshotted it to recreate it myself. I think there's a market for this particular one, even though I have no clue what the other side should look like.
RMweb Premium newbryford Posted January 22, 2023 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted January 22, 2023 I've had a bit of time to think about Bryford County (and other stuff). The time has come to start scaling back my ambitions and the US project is the first of those to experience the cull. As much as my UK Deadmans Lane is fun and great to play/watch, it's hard work to move it around to shows, so thoughts have turned towards a smaller layout that can fit in the back of the car. (It can also fit in my shed to be worked on). Coinciding with a work project, a few Scale Model Scenery boards have been purchased and assembled. In my case, three of them. Two of them are shown here assembled, the 3rd will be mounted at the left end and reversed to form the "hidden" fiddle yard. I had an idea of the plan that may fit and I used a few photocopied points and some stock to validate the layout Checking for train lengths, clearances whilst switching and avoiding the underboard crossmembers for point motors. There's still a few things to confirm, but I'll hopefully be making a purchase of some Peco 70 line trackage this week to get things moving.
long island jack
Which boards did you use, cost of van hire gone through the roof, think the days of large exhibition layouts are coming to an end, only going to be the larger exhibition that will be able to afford then

My HOm is 34 x 11 but designed to fit in three cars with the operating crew. Maybe it’s the plan and depth that’s all that needs to change 😉
RMweb Gold roundhouse Posted January 24, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 24, 2023 My layouts are now getting smaller. Never used a hire vehicle and our people mover is getting long in the tooth. Despite getting the layout and four operators in it we have been too expensive for even some large shows. My next layout will be smaller just in case we end up with a smaller vehicle and also due to fewer being able to help.

RMweb Premium newbryford Posted April 29, 2023 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted April 29, 2023 Bryford county lives. All track laid - need to give it a full 3-board test, but hampered by the lack of two bulldog clips! More soon!

RMweb Premium newbryford Posted October 5, 2023 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted October 5, 2023 Things have progressed somewhat. All track laid and tested and three (pedantically four) building shells have been constructed and plonked to set the scene. There are more on order to fill in the gaps and especially for Ray, they aren't Walthers................ The cement terminal kit originally has two rows of four silos, but these have been chopped to one row of four. (The yellow is a coat of filler/primer to cover the joints! Ballasting is now underway and hopefully, there'll be regular updates before it appears as a "good work in progress" at the Blackburn Exhibition in early December.

298
You obviously said "plonked" but it is worth checking the height of the furniture factory. Even with the base set at rail height excess height cars don't have a lot of clearance.

The brown (first undercoat of Plasticote textured paint) buildings are Walthers (sorry @long island jack) and the grey ones are cut-down Outland models. There is much external detail to add. The silos started out as 2 rows of 4 and it took a bit of cutting/filling to make it 1x4. I've reduced the height as well.
