@big jim Could it be that car is on constant rental to railway workers wearing heavy duty boots for work?

Even so it should be better than that.

I used to drive HGV's for a well know Supermarket that started to buy "guvnors motors" (DAF's) - by the time they had covered 20k (kilometers, not miles) the floor by the driver feet was in tatters, trim loose in the cab & rattling like two skeletions have a s*** on a tin roof. They were worse than IVECO's (I Virate Evertthing Comes Off), in contrast they had some Scania's & Mercs that have covered "moon & back" miles & not a rattle (nicer drive too).

There was a car show down the road at the local school today. Went in search of some Modern Classics.

Not sure if its modern or a classic but I took a picture anyway for the LOLs.

Sobering to think that this is like 35 years old now...

It was a sad day when Holden pulled out of here. We used to get stuff like this - a large wagon with a 6 Litre V8 in it - now its all SUV's and 4 door pickups..

This  Kia Stinger scrubbed up pretty well. The Stinger could well become a Modern Classic even if its just for putting some street cred into the Kia range.

.....although its creases and bulges look a bit  fussy compared to the days when lines were simpler:

For the  slightly older generation there was also a tidy RS2000 and a couple of Mk3 Cortinas amongst the Harleys and Australian locals.

We got a two door and a 4 door version.

BTW the V8 wasn't a factory option in the Cortina, we did get a 4.1 litre straight six, which was described as being  almost undrivable by motoring journos, so the aftermarket 5.7L V8 in the purple one (and maybe the yellow one, though I'm thinking thats a 4.9L)  would be an interesting drive.

I’ve just booked tickets for Trax at Silverstone at the start of September, booked track time for the mini too, got to change the brake discs and tyres beforehand, the tyres are about 10 years old so could do with changing

Took a side skirt off the FTO this morning, not very promising but my welding bloke said ‘anything is possible’ going to get it properly stripped down now so he can come over and evaluate it properly

IMG_6429.jpeg

IMG_6430.jpeg

Then took some time to change the front brakes on the mini, they have been juddery for a while and the MOT tester reconed the discs were warped so I took them off and have replaced them with brembo discs and pads

IMG_6432.jpeg

discovered I was missing 1/2 of the pad on one side!
IMG_6433.jpeg

Shame the discs were warped as they aren’t that old but were a budget brand, you get what you pay for, the other pads were ropy too!

IMG_6438.jpeg

IMG_6439.jpeg

much better now, no judders at all

IMG_6436.jpeg

next up are new tyres all round, they are starting to look a bit ropy as they are about 8 years old now, part works when I had them fitted to my old mini so time for a change!

Ouch on the pad. Looks like the other pad in the caliper might soon have seperated as well.

Happened to a friend on a bike on a track day. Resulting in a trip into the kitty litter at the end of the straight, and then another trip to hospital for a check up from possible concussion. But in that case it was likely due to heat (large rider, large bike with a turbo fitted, lots of hard braking).

All the best

Katy

Saw a Peugeot 206cc yesterday. Ok, maybe not a classic but the registration plate was intriguing, ELO2 LYN.

Wonder who the driver was? I couldn’t see.

I don't see why not if BMW Minis and late Rovers qualify. A pal of mine has just scrapped a newer one than that, so they are disappearing, which seems to be the main definition.

* Probably not somebody called Fred....

Perhaps this video will help you better understand about the Ford Escort in Australia. Just for the record my brother once owned an Escort Sundowner Panel Van in yellow with light and dark green side decals. It had a 2.0L engine with Webber carburetors (no fuel injection in those days) and he eventually sold it and bought a Mazda 808 coupe. Only a very limited number of Escort Sundowner Panel Vans were built and they command very high prices when they come up for auction.

There was never an estate or station wagon version of the Escort in Australia. If you wanted an estate or station wagon then you bought a Falcon from Ford.

The Escort Ghia also got the alloy wheels from the Cortina but not shown here.

Aussie Escorts were also available with air conditioning. Bits of which I'd like to get my hands on as I'm currently developing the aircon system for the MST replicas.

Most people equate air conditioning with a hot climate but air conditioning is also good in a cold climate for it dehumidifies the air inside the car and stops windows from fogging up. Though it has to be said that once you've had one car with air conditioning then you'll never have another car without it.

For those who like little bit of luxury in their life from 1978 here's the Aussie Ford LTD. In the US LTD stood for Lincoln Thunderbird Design but in Australia LTD didn't stand for that perhaps just Limited. The video on the Silver Monarch was a special edition LTD and one Aussie Ford Australia exec remembered another Ford Australia exec saying to people who doubted it would sell, "never underestimate the bad taste of the buying public". It only came with one engine the 5.8L or 351hp V8 and drank super petrol like a sailor after a long tour of duty. But if you were wealthy then how much fuel it guzzled was of little consequence. Can you imagine one of those gurgling round London?

Took my Skoda superb for the tracking yesterday and discovered the MOT had ran out a month ago, I was convinced it was October and had put it in my diary as so but nope!

my wife was going to use it later today to go to Scotland for 1/2 term so the garage fitted it in for an MOT later in the afternoon but it’s failed on emissions so it’s just as well they checked the date or she may well have been stopped!

ive decided to sell it on as I don’t really need it any more with not having to commute to Birmingham or use it to go to the caravan, I’ve put it on eBay for £1200 spares or repairs, it’s probably an easy fix, at the minimum it may get through with a bit of injector cleaner, worst case scenario a new set of injectors but I can’t be bothered doing it, loads of interest in it already having just put a recent photo of it on the listing to get it moving, I’ve got to add some more of the bodywork and interior but I recon it should sell for the starting price, I’ve had half a dozen offers of £1100 already but I don’t want to let it go so early on in the listing (plus I’ve got to clean it out and swap the stereo out for the original amongst other things)

it’s been a good car, doesn’t owe me anything really, it’s had tyres and a battery in the 2 years I’ve had it but that’s about it, solid as a rock despite its 226k miles!

the headlight leveller can be a bit temperamental and it obviously decided to not work at the precise time he was testing it! The low beam isn’t particularly good and the last time I looked at it the bulbs had worked loose within the holder, or hadn’t been fitted properly so the leveller moved up and down fine but the bulbs didn’t, it may just be that again

as for the side light not working, I’d not noticed that and I’d not had any light failure indication on the dash since the number plate light went blew just before the last MOT!

let’s hope it sells then I can out the money toward getting the FTO back on the road

Nice selection of colours, as opposed to the current mundane black/grey/white, although metallic red seems quite popular now.

I can identify every car in that picture, show me a similar picture taken today and I'd struggle to identify any of them I really have no interest in modern cars

You couldn't tell most of them apart from that distance anyway, you need to be able to see the badges.
