that’s what ‘rat look’ is, painted on rust and weathering!

I don’t get it personally

Horrible, I prefer being worked on as it shows care for the vehicle, so primer not rust.

Me neither, at least not UK copycat jobs.

Real ones, in the USA, have more attention paid to stabilising and preserving genuine surface rust, so at least have a bit of "character" to them. The base vehicles chosen over there tend to have a head start in that department, too...

I spotted an MX5 specialist on my way home from work earlier so told Dominic about it and had a quick look on street view to show him and spotted this, would be pretty cool if it really existed, like those fire tender range rovers!

I don't ever recall seeing one. Beemer obviously, but what model?

John

It's an E21 3 Series cabrio, built by Bauer. The first generation 3, the cabrios were always niche and these days are a very rare sight.

I don't know what their current sitiation is, there was talk of closure due to illness, but if you need MX5 specialists then Blink Motorsport in Wonsford are the people to talk to.

I rather like that. A chap down the road from me has just bought an early '80s 635 Coupe, it looks very svelte indeed and so much prettier than any modern BMW.

Personally, I've always considered the 635 to be the best looking model BMW has ever produced.

Nowadays, most of their styling is too "intimidatory" for my taste.

Seems to be the trend these days, especially with SUVs, totally agree with you, I don't like it either.

Compare modern SUV to older 4x4 and there is no contest. Look at an early Range Rover compared to the modern generic SUVs from multiple manufactures prevalent today.

Look at this picture on this page

That is the previous to current

Yep, the current one looks much more aggressive! I suppose it's quite difficult to make something look aggressive when all you had to work with was round headlights! Plastic mouldings and weird shaped headlights give them so much more scope so that all you can see in your rear view mirror is a mass of black plastic and dazzling headlights.

Also the newer ones are ugly. the original is an excellent piece of design

Not seen one of these for a while. Wasn’t there a racing series for them once upon a time?

I love that, very very rare. Looks immaculate.  They are very fast , I wish my tomcat was a turbo rather than VVC
