On the subject of the door handles / grab rails, I would no doubt know the answer if I had read every single line of this thread and had a perfect memory, but as at least one of those conditions does not apply, I'll have to ask. Are those fittings in sensible good quality metal, or are they a piece of wishful thinking in breakable plastic?

Plenty of opportunities for after market providers to make door handles and grab rails.

The rake of 4 really are very nice. Little worried about the door handles, and the kids. Also need to find a good storage option for them, as taking them in and out of each box, with that plastic is a huge pain.. But, certainly look the part, worth the long wait..

I look forwards to seeing them on the local service at Hening Vale High Level in due course.... ;-)

A sad day for me when a letter from Hatton’s dropped through my letter box on Wednesday. They could not fulfil my LNWR pack and full brake pre-order, made all those years ago. They could give me a 6 wheeler and 2 4 wheelers, only one of the three a brake. Been waiting for a half decent plum and white rake for years…. A quick call confirmed they could not improve on the offer.

Very sorry to hear that, did they say why they could t fulfill your preorder?

Sorry, about getting shorted.  The sets and full brakes are sold out, but there is a fair collection of LNWR stock left, especially if you are not fussy about dark / lighted.

Would be interested to see a mixed rake of Hornby & Hattons to see if the colour matches are within tolerances.

Some quick photos of Hatton's Mess in Crimson and Hornby First just taken on my bench ..the photos actually make them look more different than they appear in real life

The slight difference in shade is probably more prototypical.

I compared mine yesterday, and the Hornby one is pinker than the Hattons ones, probably down to them being Carmine Red, which I assume the Engineers Red is probably derived from IRL? Tempted to order one or two Genesis BR coaches from the next batch to see how they will compare to the Hornby ones..

My first vehicle in the Genesis range arrived this morning - an (unlit) BR Staff Riding Van.   Only one departmental van as I wanted to see what this range looked like before committing to rakes of coaches.

Thoughts?  Pleasing little vehicle, and it has the finely moulded luggage nets in the passenger part of the van - that struck me as a bit improbable on an old carriage relegated onto occasional use on a breakdown train.  You can hardly see the nets with the roof on anyway, and I wondered whether there would even have been seating left in the middle compartment whose windows are blanked out.  Sensible business decision not to do a different seat moulding just for this livery though.

I like the way the roof clips on.

The optional (fit it yoursef) additional footboard is a good idea - I think it's appropriate to fit it to this van, as climbing in and out at ground level is what this van is all about, whereas I wouldn't bother for some other liveries.  Surprised it's not mentioned in the instruction leaflet for idiots though.

The ends are the same colour as the body - would black have been more likely?  Without digging into books or photos, I've no idea.  All over red is certainly plausible, and as it's a generic anyway, you'd probably find both if you did do research.  So do what you want is justified here.

I like the way the centre axle slides, although in an ideal world I would have preferred a Cleminson.  The option to remove that axles altogether and convert it to a four-wheeler is a good idea, but I don't see me downgrading any van from six to four.

Lighting?  I had decided at the outset  that the additional £6 wasn't worth paying, still less the idea of adding a DCC decoder to control it - you don't see carriage lights in daytime and I don't run in the dark.  But it's a fair price for that optional extra if you wanted it.

Accuracy to prototype?  Well most of my life I've had under-scale length representations of Mk 1s, RTR wagons on inappropriate chassis with negligible brake detail - so what's so new about generic coaches?  These are visually much better, and elderly though I am, I don't remember 6-wheelers so have no personal recollection of relevant prototypes anyway.

Overall - yes, I am impressed so I will go on to order some of the other liveries in this range, although I seem to have missed out on the LMS ones I would have liked.  I would have thought the big four are the liveries most likely to warrant a second run in due course.  Normally I would include BR in that, but perhaps not for 4- and 6-wheelers.

I too went for something similar but with lights. They are rather bright. I fear the only easy way to dim them will be by fitting a decoder. A super little model though. It has run round my layout faultlessly despite many gradient changes etc. The only other six wheeled vehicle I have is a Stove R. I had to modify the centre axle arrangements to get that to run reliably.

Well done Hattons.

Thanks. I originally ordered a set and full brake. After a careful search Mike confirmed that the only brake available was a BT and they only had one number, so did not want to to 2 of the same number. I’m looking forward to a future shipment to make up a rule 1 LNWR/CR/WCJS Victorian rake.

Surely if the other item you had was the set, they wouldn't be the same running number? (Sets have running numbers different to the individual ones). Or am I (probably) misunderstanding something?

Is that skill still available in 2022? is there an App?

Folk should bear in mind that for some suffering from things like Arthurites or Tremors, the renumbering rolling stock may not be possible.

As such care should be exercised when making allusions to modellers who could do things to their models but are too lazy to do so...

just had this email from Hattons about batch 2...

The first batch of our OO gauge Genesis 4 & 6 wheel coaches were so popular that the vast majority are now sold out on pre-order. With this in mind, we recommend placing preorders for Batch 2 liveries as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

Pre-order your Genesis Coaches from £33, HERE--https://www.hattons.co.uk/stocklist/siteresults?search/sources/New/scales/OO/product-types/Coaches/brands/Hattons Originals

I find it ironic that we have all these things to be aware of these days but despite that, society is going downhill fast.

Stuff that affects everyone, like unusually high call volumes, an inadequate electoral system and declining levels of education, we are apparently powerless to do anything about.

But we are quick to stamp out laughter in case anyone is accidentally offended.

You misread me - I get the joke, however the lack of a suitable emoji means it could be misread.

RMweb is a friendly forum that strives to be welcoming to members and although humour is part of that, consideration also needs to be paid to those for whom a disability curtails the amount of modelling they can do.

What you seem to forget in your keenness to belittle a serious point is that when you talk to someone verbally things like the tone of your voice can be 'read' by the listener to gauge whether its merely a humorous comment or serious observation. The same is NOT true when it comes to mere words in an internet forum.

Of course when its a physical encounter you can chuck in body language too which is also enormously helpful in providing context.

Offensive?

It's extracting the wee out of those that post a video where they spend ages unboxing something and think its entertaining/informative.

If such a ridiculous comment is considered offensive we might as well top ourselves.☹️
