RMweb Premium CloggyDog Posted November 18, 2023 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted November 18, 2023 With the eva fixed, a rough placement of track and structures. I've 'de-mirrored' the plan to better suit the points I have, so it's now a compressed version of Devil's Bridge. Fiddle stick at the right-hand end and this will be the viewing side. 4mm ply display box surround to cut and test fit, along with working out the wiring.
RMweb Premium CloggyDog Posted November 28, 2023 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted November 28, 2023 (edited) The final 2 major structures arrived in todays post, from MSModels an over-track footbridge to help hide the fiddle entry and a water tower, both very cleanly 3D printed in grey resin. RMweb Premium CloggyDog Posted December 3, 2023 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted December 3, 2023 The track is now fixed in place, wired up and tested. Point rodding fitted, with some strategic holes drilled in the fascia to poke the point rods through. Ply display box surround is primed and painted, I'll glue and pin it to the Lack tomorrow, though I'll leave the back board off until the bulk of the scenic work is done. The coaches have a coat of primer, I'll get some BangerBlue on them this week, and to the 2nd loco body. Must order the coach number decals from Railtec!
RMweb Premium CloggyDog Posted December 8, 2023 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted December 8, 2023 The display box (well, fascia, end boards and lighting strip) are now glued and pinned to the Lack. The back board will wait until the bulk of the scenic work is done. 2 sockets on the right-hand side for the track and light feeds, a pair of spst isolating switches on the left for the bay and headshunt. Lights are 2 LED strips, one warm, one cool. And I've fitted the point handles - innards from choc-blocks just screwed onto the protruding wires. Scenics next, the Woodland Scenics foliage has arrived, so I can crack on with the trees. Coaches have had a blue primer coat ahead of a BangerBlue spraying session in the near future.
RMweb Premium CloggyDog Posted December 8, 2023 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted December 8, 2023 A couple more, structures roughly placed and a train in the main platform road. I've also roughed out an operating sequence using 2 passenger trains and alternating p-way and coal 'freight'
RMweb Premium CloggyDog Posted January 31 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted January 31 The pair of Brake Thirds and four Thirds are good to go, number decals a custom job from Railtec. Locos getting there, name and numberplates (7 & 8) from the old King's Cross range to add. And scenic work continues, should have the bulk of that completed over the coming weekend.

The 'Bemo/Peco' loop/latch don't look particularly attractive to my eyes and I'd prefer to use something more prototypical if I can. 2. are 4mm etched number/name plates available for the VoR trio? My google-fu seem to be broken on both subjects, I've tried various search terms and na-da... TIA! they are done in 1:64 1880 NZR Couplers Finely cast NZR couplers designed to work with Back Bar Models, NZ Finescales and AKF 1902, 1930s and 1970s versions of the NZR coupler Available in 64th 48th and 9mill scales https://marksmodelworks.wordpress.com/kits-and-bits/
RMweb Premium CloggyDog Posted February 1 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted February 1 I've ended up using simplified DG (Type D) couplings, good value at £6 for 16-vehicle's-worth. Much more discrete than the Bemo type and closer coupling than the 3D printed Choppers I had tried.

RMweb Premium CloggyDog Posted February 2 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted February 2 (Almost*) the final touch on the coaches is to pick-out the door handles and grabs using a gold Sharpie marker, a tip picked up on the one the Facebook modelling groups this week. *vac pipes to add, they are on the bench now being painted. I'd forgotten about those... 🙄
RMweb Premium CloggyDog Posted February 3 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted February 3 Numbers 7 and 8 now have their number- and nameplates. Just the vac pipes, crews and coal to add to finish these off. 8 1
RMweb Premium CloggyDog Posted February 4 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted February 4 A quickie yesterday was to draft up the Brake Van in Silhouette Studio, cut in 10 thou sheet and assemble. Sides and ends are 2 layers of 10 thou laminated with D-limonene, underframe and roof are Dundas. Number decals are Railtec, part of the custom sheet of a dozen VoR coaches I had done. As I'd already done the Thirds/Brake Thirds in Studio, the Van was a simple case of copy/paste the required elements onto a shorter side. The ends are the same, just with the windows added to one end. 7 2
RMweb Premium CloggyDog Posted February 10 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted February 10 Backscene on, scenics down, structures in place. Trees to get some autumnal foliage tomorrow and planted properly. Then some final testing and fettling ahead of it's debut at the Kenavon exhibition next Saturday. Oh... And a fiddlestick to make... 5 1
RMweb Premium CloggyDog Posted February 11 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted February 11 Trees for Mynydd! A fun afternoon adding foliage to Woodland Scenic armatures. A mix of clump and net foliage, including some autumnal tones. RMweb Premium Clive Mortimore Posted February 13 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 13 Hi Alan You just need something to complete your modern image puffer layout, Dragon Mountain. Some background music.
RMweb Premium CloggyDog Posted February 18 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted February 18 Layout more-or-less behaved itself. Couple of niggly things to sort (coupler heights the main one) and the 2nd loco needs a good fettle. Seemed well received and plenty of interest. Thanks to @RJS1977 for the invite. Show seemed pretty busy most of the morning, tailed off a bit after lunch. 12

25kV
I always loved the incongruity of Rail Blue on narrow gauge steam - am I alone in being just a little disappointed when that era ended? This layout totally captures the feel. 🙂
