Looks like it went out straight ahead over the King Edward Bridge, rather than reverse and go via the High Level as intended. It certainly caught me out! Trev52A
A couple of my efforts from today at Newcastle Arriving past a fraction of the scores (hundreds?) of enthusiasts waiting at the station. W43006 at the head. Drawing to a stand with E43112 trailing, passing 'Azuma' 800112 (a coincidence with the numbers!) Cheers Trevor Edited December 20, 2019 by Trev52A Added the W and E prefixes to the numbers
Popular Post Jaggzuk
Some shots from a very wet York. Amazing to see a full set in its original livery (again) and what a great paint job too. Brought back great memories of the 70s and seeing these up and down the ECML. What I also now love is the fact that I can legitimately run a BR Blue "Flying Banana" in high gloss finish on our layout at home! For me, the appearance of the HSTs when new really was "The Shock of the New". As machines they looked unlike anything else on the network but, more than that, in their crisp liveries they looked purposeful and so "modern". Some people dismiss Ken Grange as just the "stylist" of the HST, but a significant part of their success in transforming perceptions of the railways is down to that wonderfully distinctive look. It's a pity that this set has the new-style headlight fittings (so much fussier than the originals), but it's glorious to see this livery again. My own view (others are available, and I know I'm in a tiny minority) is that BR did a pretty good job with the Rail Blue corporate identity. To my eyes nothing since then has approached the classic simplicity of the blue/grey livery. Paul 1
flapland
For those interested in the Rail Blue corporate identity I highly recommend a copy of the British Rail Corporate Identity Manual. It's pricy, but very well done. They are also doing A1 limited edition screenprint of the 125 but thats even more expensive sadly. https://britishrailmanual.com
RMweb Gold Popular Post 4630 Posted December 21, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted December 21, 2019 A couple from Day 4 of the LNER HST Farewell Tour as the set passed through Sandal & Agbrigg (between Wakefield Westgate and Doncaster). The only thing missing was the scream of the original Paxman Valentas. I expected a few people to turn out to see it pass through the station and when I arrived there were only about 6 of us at either end of the station platform. I didn't expect there to be virtually a full platform of spectators by the time that it passed through.

Mark_A
This exercise looks to be providing a good demo of the benefits of hydrophobic treatment of train window glass, yes?
eastwestdivide
A couple of stops further on, South Elmsall, and the tail lights of the old disappear into the distance as the headlights of the new come round the corner:
Pandora
I attended KX and joined the throng to see the arrival of the HST at 1500 hours, the high gloss finish of original yellow/blue/cream livery was superb, I do not think any other coiour scheme has bettered the original. 1

Luke Piewalker
I saw a suggestion on scot-rail.co.uk that she's returning ECS to Craigentinny and is doing a swing round the Fife circle on the 28th as a staff charter. Lots of question marks and brackets involved though.

RTT shows it at Durham as I type: https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/N17901/2019-12-21/detailed The Nim.
bimble
Totally worth the 500 mile round trip! Friday was awful weather, drizzle, murky, and then a Trans Pennine service cleared the Edinburgh 200 miles sign by about a second... but it did clear. A quick pop down to Colton Jn while the train was stopped in York and it was just darker... that battle between ISO, shutter speed and darkness. Alas my home desktop stopped working last week so I can't run them through photoshop until I'm back in the office. Saturday I headed down to Burton Coggles having spotted the location from David F's wonderful photo thread. 15
RMweb Premium Dava Posted December 21, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 21, 2019 I've enjoyed the videos & photos on here and on Twitter. If you're missing the Paxman Valenta sounds, the BBC sound archives have this and a few more HST recordings http://bbcsfx.acropolis.org.uk/assets/07041140.wav We anticipate with great regret the EMR HST sets being withdrawn next, and look forward to the LNER HST sets arriving on the Midland Main Line in 2020 for their final months. RMweb Premium Phil Mc Posted December 21, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 21, 2019 (edited) 1 from the start of todays journey, and a few from the end. Apparently, the Power Cars were turned at Neville Hill last night and placed at the opposite ends of the set, so the Eastern Region Power Car was up to the buffers at Kings Cross. A much appreciated gesture, many thanks to all concerned !! Cheers, Phil. Edited December 21, 2019 by Phil Mc
RMweb Gold TravisM Posted December 21, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 21, 2019 I have to say that I saw the set today, it was absolutely amazing with the paintwork and attention to detail spot on. I have to say the LNER isn’t my favourite TOC but hats off to them with the effort they put into this and a special thank you to the tolerant platform staff at Peterborough station. 1
