Railfreight1998
Thought I might start a thread to show some (fairly) recent happenings on the railways in the area. Here's a couple at Fetteresso Viaduct, Stonehaven to get the ball rolling. Aberdeen - Edinburgh turbostar, 29-02-20 Class 70 Waterloo - Grangemouth Ineos, 29-02-20 And a quick shot of the craiginches bound intermodal (loaded with just the two containers in the pic) crossing Glenury Viaduct, taken while on my daily exercise. 26-03-20 As usual comments and contributions all welcome. Thanks, Evan
RMweb Gold 55020 Posted March 30, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 30, 2020 I need to spend some time scanning in my photo's and slides. One day soon perhaps. At the moment I have one to offer: 47640 University of Strathclyde with an Inverness - Aberdeen service, accelerating out of Dyce station in May 1986. Railfreight1998
Hi everyone No new photos today, so I've dug out some from last summer. I do seem to have taken a lot at Fetteresso viaduct - must go somewhere else next time! LNER hst, with both the NRM and Craigentinny 100 power cars at the same time - Fetteresso viaduct. Another Colas class 70 on the Waterloo - Workington slurry tanks. They seem to have got quite a toehold up here now, working both this and the cement flow to Craiginches. Finally, in fading light, Tornado passes on the southbound Aberdonian. Thanks for looking, Evan
Railfreight1998
Just one from today, and it's yet another Colas 70! Running over an hour early, 70806 crosses Slug road while working the 646E Workington docks to Aberdeen Craiginches. Thanks for looking and stay safe. AberdeenBill
I don't think that I've posted these before... 1) Southbound classic HST at Newtonhill. Both HST and semaphore signals are now history... 2) Scotrail 'short' HST at Dyce 3) 66 426 on a northbound container train at Laurencekirk Thanks, Bill
Railfreight1998
Some photos taken recently, at Carmont and feathers bridge (next to Fetteresso Viaduct). A turbostar heads past the long closed station platform at Carmont... ... which according to this sign is still open. Showing how fast things change on the railway - the feathers access point was wooden a month ago! And a bit off topic, but a quick shot of a wildfire just south of Stonehaven today, with the fire brigade just beyond the smoke. Thanks for looking and stay safe. Railfreight1998
Afternoon all, hope everyone is well. Not many new photos due to the current restrictions, but here's one from yesterday taken during my permitted daily exercise. Perched on the high embankment south of stonehaven, a class 158 scurries along on an Aberdeen to Edinburgh service. Thanks, Evan

(dons revolting pedant hat) The sign is correct, and does not specify the open or closed status of the station, while it correctly points the route to it. Notice that it doesn't have the usual redbacked douple arrows. If there are dwellings there their postal address might well be 'Cramont Station', and thus the sign is needed to direct the postman. 1

Thanks for pointing that out - I should probably have noticed that the lack of double arrows had some significance (given there's a similar sign for Stonehaven with arrows near my house!) I think the sign may be like that to avoid confusion with a similarly named farm some distance away, this being where the name was taken from when the location was renamed from 'newmill' in the 1900s. Mark Saunders
It is not unusual for places to have the name station as a suffix in the name and normally means that the station for the town is not in or near the town. Examples in Northumberland Widdrington and Widdrington Station plus Bedlington and Bedlington Station even though it was closed many years ago! RMweb Gold The Johnster Posted April 24, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 24, 2020 The station for Rogiet in Gwent is called Severn Tunnel Junction, but in it's day it was probably bigger than Rogiet; the yards and loco shed certainly were! Railfreight1998
A few recent photos of the daily Grangemouth - Craiginches intermodal, all taken during various daily exercises. Fetteresso viaduct, from a different angle this time Aquarie, 66423 A96 junction, 66108 Stay safe everyone, more photos should hopefully follow soon.
Railfreight1998
A couple of more interesting photos from recently. 70812 leads a long welded rail train south on a sunny Sunday afternoon. This was returning to Millerhill after dropping rail between Huntly and Inverurie the previous night. A terminating sprinter waits for an Aberdeen bound 170 to pass prior to reversing and heading north ECS. Cheers, Evan
Railfreight1998
Road - rail plant in Stonehaven yard over the past few days. Note how quickly the rails begin to oxidise without traffic passing over them, although a shuttle service between Stonehaven and Aberdeen is supposed to start tomorrow.
Railfreight1998
I doubt ground signal SV40 or the south crossover have ever seen this much use, with every arrival making use of them. 158725 makes it's way to platform 2 to form the next service back to Aberdeen. 1/9/20 A surprise visit from the ultrasonic test train on Sunday, en route from Clayhills to Inverness. Ex sleeper BUO 9806 was also in the formation. 37610 providing the power. Cheers
Railfreight1998
Thread revival time! No posts here for quite a while, so here's a few better recent shots. Colas 56302 'Peco' heading for Grangemouth from Craiginches. Feathers Bridge, 13/3/21 The grid had arrived from Grangemouth the previous day and was used to move 2 defective NR test coaches to Craiginches from Clayhills sidings for road movement that night. A KX to Aberdeen Azuma framed well by the Carmont section signal as it heads into the cutting north of the level crossing. 14/3/21 Finally, 68001 passes one of several ponds in the large valley at Carmont. Recent embankment stabilisation work can be seen in the far background. 18/3/21 Cheers everyone Evan
