Hi,

Does anyone know if the Hornby Models R4775 and R4776 are historically correct to convert to E4288 and E4493 and the East Lancs M4937 if I am recreating the 1T57 train.

Also is Bachmann 39-051J suitable for M4943 as the model has commonwealth bogies.

 Thanks Fred

I have searched for ER 1T57 services and not come up with anything relavent; a date and region would help.

4288 Lot 30207 BRCW 1/57 WD 10/72 to PDR and camping coach cut 12/06 http://www.cs.rhrp.org.uk/se/CarriageInfo.asp?Ref=1312

4497 Lot 30243 York 1956 WD 8/83 cut 3/86

Both were Dia AC204, wood interior with tungsten lighting, BR1 bogies, vac braked steam heated.

4937 and 4943 are Lot 30690 Wolverton (1961) melamine interior, florescent lighting, Commonwealth bogies, vac brakes, dual heated from new. 4937 wd 9/90 at E Lancs. 4943 wd 1/92 cut  3/92. http://www.cs.rhrp.org.uk/se/CarriageInfo.asp?Ref=1477

In terms of visual difference the latter two would have had window frames from new. 4288 looks to have not had window frames fitted.

I don't do OO but R4775 look OK for 4288/4493 and R4776 looks OK for 4937/4943.

39-051J is 4059, this was an earlyish AC204 TSO, 7/57. It would only have obtained Commonwealth bogies when transferred to the southern when it was converted to air/electric. If the model is accurate then it is 'wrong' for M4943.

In terms of liveries check the ends of the coaches some were black and other were body colour depending on the works who last painted it.

Even I would be happy with any model of a mK1 TSO as long as had the right bogies.

Oh dear!

I don't know where the Eastern Region came from, but it's surely the most famous one off train ever run in the UK?

Even putting 1T57 into Google gives you this

Hi Fred

Easy to swap bogies on Bacchy Mk1s if not correct... just undo securing screw, swap and refit. Tighten screw up fully then back off a quarter of a turn so the bogie can float a bit. Job done

The first two coaches listed were Eastern region vs stock, unlikely to be used on LMR services, whereas vd LMR stock were often used on through transpennine services. If the OP has said '15 guinea special' then I would have got it but some of us have other interests, its like quoting 1950's/60's shed codes to somebody intested in post 73 BR

Hi, are E4288 and E4497 basically identical to the model of W4804 (Hornby R4775)?

4804 is a SO (AD201) not a TSO (AD204) - 2+1 seating vs 2+2 - so if the model is accurate the interior is wrong for 4288/4497. The outside otherwise looks OK for a BR1 fitted coach of the period.

there was an feature a while back in model rail about this, it did list the coach numbers, types etc etc... can't say if this the exact info that you're after, but it may help. what i do remember from it was the buffet/kitchen coaches are not made in rtr as were at the time the BSO, which are now being produced. hope this helps. if i can find my copy of the mag i will post on here issue number & the date. unless someone beats me to it.
