Nothing done again today so far as we've been out for coffee and cake.:dancer:

If you are going to keep indulging in all these coffee & cakes then you may need a bigger room to house the railway........:drink_mini:

And today I made a start with the Track Planning and working out what other Points I now need to complete the job.

Evening Andy,

Much enjoyed the last video. Great to see the track layout starting to come together. As I was watching I just wondered if you had considered the possibility of an additional independent line from the clay branch into the fiddle yard?

A bit like this maybe? Would need a double slip instead of a point of course.

Or even like this, if you could widen the baseboard slightly?

This would enable a train to enter or leave the clay branch at the same time as another train was departing the station on the down main.

Just a thought.

Cheers,

Mike

Hi Mike, Thanks and a nice idea, but;

A, I don't want to widen the board over the work bench. and.

B, I would rather not have a Double slip as it would mean sorting out frog polarity switching which is a pain as I will be doing the Fiddle Yard manually for now..

The current plan is to allow access to both up and down Fiddle Yards to and from the Clay Line / Branch.

It will also allow access to the 4 dedicated Branch dead end sidings ( see plan in Blue).

I understand what your saying about running the  extra Trains at the same time, and that would be good, but I don't want to add more wood to the Fiddle Yard board now, and so the only other way would be to shorten the Red / Down Sidings to make room for a separate feed to the Blue dead end sidings.

The Green Crossover allows UP / Black Trains to come out of the Branch, and likewise I can run wrong line into there from the Branch, and then remove the Loco from the wrong end, for exiting the correct way on the Main or Branch again.

I hope a combination of my ramblings and Fiddle Yard Plan will make it a bit understandable.

Hi Andy, good video. I really like the way you have used the MDF. Much easier than fabricating from bits of plastic and much quicker. Also drilling holes for lamps fences and the like will be easy. I wish I could use the same method for GQS but the MDF is too heavy for that, given that the layout is all platforms so I will have to stick with the plastic!

Keep up the good work.

Cheers

David

Very informative video Andy just goes to show your not just a 'Boggit' but 'A Super Boggit' excellent .:superman:

It's video's like this that will really help people in their modelling journey and tackling a curved platform is very informative as it's one of the of harder platform types to tackle. I like the way you have started the track laying process in that area of the layout as once that curve has been sorted the rest of the track formation will flow very naturally ..... keep up the good work mate following with interest :sungum:

O.K. Update for today, Not a lot to be honest, but one of my Grandsons and I have got 3 Boards  done, and prep work for 2 more, so a good day in all.

First job was to raise the last frame on the main side. I did the 2 end ones yesterday, but couldn't lift the big one on my own.

Then we had to go and get the Timber, and make a start.

Here's where we are now, and Ricky is taking his 4 Daughters out now for the rest of the week, so I can plod along on my own now that the heavy lifting and cutting is done.

All the boards will eventually have a neat facia edging around the inside.IMG_5293.JPG.779b98c16141e90842c47810cdfb7d61.JPG

At last have found the start of the new layout Bute - oops not Bench - and the BB is looking good.

Now seen the latest video - makes making a curved platform look easy.  In packing have had to move with difficulty some 18mm MDF and have to admit vowed never to use the stuff again ...  but your video makes a difficult job seem easy.

Cheers David, I've used many things for many Platforms, but on a permanent Layout this is my preferred method.

Thanks Martin, As you quite rightly say, starting with the most difficult part first will make the rest flow.

I HOPE.:D

I made a start on Phase 2 of Platform 1, after getting back from Eastleigh this morning.

A coat of 50 shades of Grey, (see next weeks Video to see what I mean) and then the edging was pinned in place.

Next job will be to add Brickwork to the lower facia.
