Sandy Harper
This is the test build of the 4mm version of Walsworth Models 7mm version of the Highland Railway Valuable Cattle Wagon. Apart from a few tweaks to the drawing to make it easier to build in this scale, and the masters for the castings, it should be available as a kit early in 2022. micklner
Sandy I have Just looked at their site. It states 4mm etches only, available now. Do you know if they intend to do a full kit ? Have you any idea of the history of the vehicle please . No other obvious information on their site. thanks mick
brossard
Found this: https://www.walsworthmodelservices.co.uk/product-page/highland-railway-valuable-cattle-wagon-dia22 Looks like it is a full 7mm kit. John
RMweb Gold Bucoops Posted December 3, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 3, 2021 As the OP says, the casting masters need to be produced, so that sounds like a full kit will be forthcoming?
Steamport Southport
I'll have to dig out the Tatlow HR Carriages and Wagon book. The link suggests they might have got LMS livery. It's something that I would normally dismiss as too ancient, but interesting looking vehicle. Something that probably travelled far taking Highland Cattle to livestock shows. watfordtmc
I can save @Steamport Southport a bit of trouble... and hopefully give @micklner a bit more information: Two vehicles were built by the HR in 1900, numbered 2365 & 2366, apparently to avoid hiring in suitable vehicles from other companies. The clerestory provided additional ventilation to the stock compartments, and held a water tank over the drover’s compartment. The vehicles were Vacuum and Westinghouse piped only. Both vehicles were renumbered in the 1923 LMS scheme as 7847 & 7848 respectively. 2365/7847 was withdrawn before the 1933 LMS renumbering scheme and, although 2366/7848 was allocated a 1933 number, it was withdrawn in May 1933 before being renumbered. The Reference contains a description and a Peter Tatlow drawing (unsurprisingly) but there are no images. Reference Highland Railway Carriages and Wagons, Tatlow P, Noodle Books (Southampton) in association with the Highland Railway Society 2014. pp127-129 for discussion/drawing of vehicles. Sandy Harper
Thanks T Mc, you have answered all the questions above for me. The Valuable Cattle Wagon and Dia, 25 Brake Van, 7mm scale, are available now as complete kits including F/S wheels. The Valuable Cattle Wagon in 4mm scale will be available as a complete kit, minus wheels, early in the new year. The Dia. 25 brake van, in 4mm scale, complete kit minus wheels, is available now. Sandy Harper
There is no progress at the moment as the 7mm version needs a comprehensive redesign, That is in progress now and should be completed in the spring. The 4mm version should be available around the summer of 2022. Sandy 1

Sandy Harper
Yes Mark, We hope to have the test etches for the revised 7mm version any day now. If they prove successful then the 4mm will follow. Our popular Sentinel Y1/3 CE was showing its age (It was originally hand drawn and had a couple of dimensional errors) has been redrawn and revised using CAD) That is also awaited from the etcher. Our Cambrian Class 73 0-6-0 tender engine is in the final stages of drawing and will go to the etcher shortly followed by a new Sentinel 100hp 0-4-0 single geared engine (Fry's Chocolate Factory fame) Sandy Edited July 22, 2022 by Sandy Harper additions
