Boxchester - Heljan 47 fleet

Recommended Posts

Weathering knocked back and detail picked out on the bogies. So the basics are done.

I am going to put this down for a few days now. Lots of fine tuning needed.

It will be numbered soon.

And knocked back with my light powder teqnique. The white oil paint didn't really work for me. Perhaps it was the paint I was using.

Cheers

Steve

Hi,

what works for one doesn't always work for some-one else.  There's no harm in trying new techniques, that's how we learn new things, and if it works that's fine, but if it doesn't then there's always the one we know to fall back on.  Trying new things is one of the joys of our hobby!

Yes I agree. I might still experiment with the white paint on a bit of old stock.

Hoping to finish the 20 early next week.

Absolutely superb weathering, on the 08 especially. Can't tell it's not real no matter what I look at.

Thank you Simon. I have been off the forum for a while and am now beginning to find the time to get back into it.

I am always on the look out on ebay for another reasonably priced Hornby 08 to muck about with.

I will post up a few more of the older pictures and then concentrate on work in progress.

I have a set of 5 21t coal hoppers.

Two Parkside rebodied I built

Two Hornby riveted which I am changing into welded

One Hornby riveted

And two different styles of weathering.

So I am adding the detail where missing and I hope to weather them all so they look similar ish. We shall see how it all turns out.

The random looking rake

Adding wire and bits of plasti card. And this is the weathering effect I want on them all.

Cheers

Discs are on.

And it has been numbered with a mixture of Fox and Railtec transfers.

Final weathering stage to come.

Took delivery of a Lima 20 in the same colours. Here is my reference point for the weathering!

Rudd is almost finished. I have carved out bits from the top edge to give it a more batered feel. The underframe needs more work.

The five coal hoppers. Are to the next stage, all the detail is on. Base coats of paint are now on.

Still quite a bit to do. Another paint layer and removal and fine tuning. So work in progress.

But they are beginning to look like a rake that belong together.

Amazing work all round; often can't tell if I'm looking a model or the real thing!

Thank you for the encouragement. I think of it a bit like a 3d painting. I have such good memories of the atmosphere and smells of the railways in the early 80s, I just want to recreate a bit of it in miniature.

Regards

Steve
