MTK Class 306 EMU

You've really captured the character of the 306 - excellent work!

Living near Chelmsford, I don't quite remember them in passenger service, but I recall a couple of units dumped in the sidings at Stratford and of course I saw the green 306017 on some of its trips out. I also tried to build a few MTK kits (for other vehicles) in my youth and none of them came out anything like as good as this.

Lovely job!

Fond memories of childhood journeys on 306s (Brentwood to Romford on market day, or up to Stratford/Liv St for a day's spotting), especially if one of the 'sofas' was available.

I bet you were one of those ruffians who would lie on the long seats on the end of the coach. Leaving the mud off your boots for some poor commuter to arrive at work on Monday morning looking like he had sat in a field.

For units designed for being filled with lots of people the seats were very comfy. Unlike the plastic park benches of a 315. "There is an empty seat over there my dear" said the gent to the pregnant lady. "Its alright luv, I think I will stand".

Darius your model looks wonderful.

Just needs some of these to run under.

Driving motor coach interior completed - somewhat truncated due to the motor bogie being in this coach.

I did consider putting the motor bogie in the guard’s compartment in the centre coach but space was too constricted due to the white metal castings for the guard’s doors.

Cheers

This project really has upped my view of what's possible with this sort of kit. Of course, with the right skill and application! If you ever decide to sell, Darius, it should get a good price, given the subject's rarity and the number of people in this forum witnessing the care and skill in its construction.

Hi Darius

Tonight is frosty and seeing your photos reminds me of many a frosty evening on Shenfield station waiting for a train home to Chelmsford and seeing the Slippery Door stock terminating looking so warm and inviting.

Just spotted this build @Darius43, looks amazing compared to the source material/kit. What did you use to glue the kit together with? What did yo use for filler? I have a MTK 4REP kit that I bought in the 1990s which I may tackle in the next decade, so may try and follow your process!
