RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted June 27, 2016 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 27, 2016 Golf at Rothley again today, so I may get to see some steam action. Meanwhile, here is a bit more on the model. The Down main is very busy now, and KX A3 Hermit has arrived with a relief to the 1020 KX - Leeds. It will stand here for five minutes, during which time 60505 will leave with the Edinburgh. Margins are very tight by this time during the height of summer. I think someone has climbed a signal ladder to get this view. 60505 is about to pull away, the J6 is out of shot to the right, but will still have some waiting to do, and the DMU will move to Platform 4 in a while, ready to form a midday departure to Louth.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted June 27, 2016 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 27, 2016 Appalling golf played, no trains seen, just diesel sounds in the distance. Meanwhile, back at PN,1130 has arrived, and Thane of Fife starts away.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted June 27, 2016 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 27, 2016 I've taken a lot of photos of 60505 for some reason. I'll put up one more for now, but please tell me if you've had enough of it for the time being. Tell you what, how about the other side for a change, and in monochrome. Off to bed now, absolutely disgusted with myself.

Well if you played golf to the same standard as your layout you would be the Open champion - so don't be too hard on yourself. It would be somewhat selfish to have two world class activities on the go at the same time!

RMweb Premium great northern Posted June 28, 2016 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted June 28, 2016 Well if you played golf to the same standard as your layout you would be the Open champion - so don't be too hard on yourself. It would be somewhat selfish to have two world class activities on the go at the same time! Well, thanks for that, high praise indeed. Am I too hard on myself? You aren't the first to say that. How can I explain? There are things I can't do, lots of them, and that's OK. There are things I can do, but not very well, and that's OK too. What really gets me is something that I can do, and do well, and which I then foul up. I don't mean having a bad day, that happens to the very best professionals. I mean playing as though I've never hit a ball before in my life, especially after I've hit 30 balls on the range to warm up, and 28 of them were quality shots. But enough of that now. RMweb Premium great northern Posted June 28, 2016 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted June 28, 2016 I managed to take some more photos before the heavens opened and darkness descended upon the land, so its time to make room for them by showing more of the previous set. First into sight on the Up was Grantham A3 Centenary, which had taken over the 0800 Newcastle -KX at its home town.

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted June 28, 2016 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 28, 2016 Our cameraman swung round smartly to get that lovely rear three quarter view of an A3. and he then had time to cross the footbridge and move to the South end before 60046 arrived with the 1020 KX - Leeds.
RMweb Premium great northern Posted June 29, 2016 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted June 29, 2016 To finish off Friday's images, we have two more shots of Diamond Jubilee, now waiting time at the North end of Platform 3. And I have only just noticed that I managed to get a pole sticking out of the chimney again. A bit more successful this time, and a shot which shows up the very satisfactory depth of view which those low relief houses give.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted June 29, 2016 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 29, 2016 I now have new spectacles, and first impressions are very good, as close up viewing seems to be much better. I now have a chance of doing a bit of modelling, and necessities such as coupling up stock and dealing with lamps. To celebrate, another picture, this one from yesterday's shoot. Here we have recently overhauled local A2/3 60514, which is reversing into the Up bay. It will await the arrival of the 0753 Up Sunderland, which it will take over from a Heaton engine.
glo41f
Gilbert Once again you have inspired us with some stunning pictures. You manage to capture the essence of the scenes that I remember so well. I feel this is due to the way your stock looks "lived in" as if it has pounded up and down the ECML. A wonderfully subtle effect in my opinion. Well done you. If only I had the space to do the same in 7mm! (I love the big pacifics but cannot justify 60017 and his mates on a east anglian branch line. Howver little brother " East Anglian" is coming on so my truncated A4 will hopefully be riding the rails soon) Thank you sir. Martin Long
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted June 29, 2016 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 29, 2016 A couple more this evening. First we have the Cravens DMU, which has now moved into number 4 bay. I said a few posts back it would be off to Louth shortly, but in fact it is going as far as the fabled seaside resort of Cleethorpes. and then yet another Grantham A3 rolls by, this time 60111 with the 0918 Up Leeds. We have now had all three types of tender fitted to A3s post war within the last few posts. several Grantham A3s have featured recently, proof that the shed still had plenty of top link express work, despite having lost all its A1s, and having nothing but single blast engines to do the jobs.
RMweb Gold Market65 Posted June 29, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 29, 2016 Excellent photo's, and in the Cravens DMU, at least those can afford it, will be able to travel first-class all the way in the DTCL! With warmest regards, Rob.

RMweb Premium great northern Posted June 30, 2016 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted June 30, 2016 A hurried visit this morning, just time to put up a couple more. An approaching train in the distance, and an A2 with something growing out of its chimney. At least it is something that does grow this time. If I'd painted it white and called it smoke it wouldn't have fooled you, would it? Getting closer. Not much merit in this, the trade off between lenght of exposure and depth of field and sharpness didn't work out as I hoped.
RMweb Premium great northern Posted June 30, 2016 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted June 30, 2016 Roadworks on the M1, more forgettable golf, but dry, and time for another picture. 60111 now nearly here, and that tree seems to have moved.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted June 30, 2016 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 30, 2016 While shoving the camera around the other day, I decided just to show a view of the Parcels Office, because of the discussions that took place a while back. It was a fair way down from the main entrance. I'm sure though you would rather see a train, so here is a Doncaster 9F with some empty fish vans, which must eventually be destined for Aberdeen, as most of the are blue spots.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted July 1, 2016 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 1, 2016 So, what is on the agenda today? Ah yes, yet more golf. I can't get out of this one as it is my brother's charity day, but otherwise I could do with a break. Did you know golf balls can't swim? Some more shots before I go forth once again, concentrating on that 9F and its fish vans. On dull days there is far more light at this end of the room, and so photography is easier. Please let me know though what your favourite vantage points are, and I'll do my best to get the camera into those positions when conditions allow. And keep on at me about those mismatched lamps, that way I might remember to order some more, and my new glasses might even allow me to fit them.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted July 1, 2016 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 1, 2016 Highlight of today was a charity challenge to hit a shot closer to the hole on a par three than the very nice young lady assistant professsional. Fortunately my best shot of the day chose that moment to arrive, and I succeeded. Don't know what I've won yet. Meanwhile the 0743 Sunderland is arriving at Platform 2 behind Heaton A1 Sir Vincent Raven, a rare sight this far South.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted July 1, 2016 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 1, 2016 To end the day, Thompson and Peppercorn's idea of what an LNER pacific should look like, side by side. Just ignore the blobs in the sky.
