Cracking photo which illustrates the point perfectly - lovely set of coaches (with some proper motive power at the front too...!)  If you tried sending round a train like that at exhibitions you'd get some tutting...

David

I love the 'tutters' like that. The few times I've exhibited (no sniggering at the back .......I know who it is) I have played 'tutting' Bingo. That's a bit like Conference Bingo but less exciting).

After 1964 the Edgware branch WAS history...

My primary school backed on to the branch, near Mill Hill East station. Mostly diesels by that time (EE or BTH Type 1s?) but the very occasional steam loco - presumably an N2.

Any link to your layout?

G'day Gents

Sorry to be late replying, been having an upgrade to the NBN system (super broadband, here in Oz), been using a tablet thingie, can't work it.

But here's a link to my Edgware layout,  http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/77549-edgware-gn/

Found it - thanks. Good luck with NBN. It won't reach us for another couple of years at least.

Love the 9F on the parcels GB, really wish I could justify the two that I have (92077 and my son's 92220), but they only come out for silly train time now.

It was no wonder they such successful beasties, really epitomised some of Porta's thinking about maximising driving wheels, large steam passages, good exhaust design etc.  Now if they only had a gas producer firebox and multiple ring valves, they would have been the predated the pinnacle of steam design that was the Red Devil by a couple of decades.

Probably wouldn't have done anything to prolong steam traction, but by goodness it would've looked damn fine!

Cheers

Tony

This evening we have a 9F and a parcels train, KX - York this time.

attachicon.gifparcels 1.JPG

There is a very strong wind blowing, which has pushed the lamps sideways.

attachicon.gifparcels 2.JPG

and they look even worse in close up. The train will spend twenty minutes at Platform 6, where presumably things will get taken off, and others put on. Have no fear though, other trains will arrive and depart during that period, and they will be featured..... tomorrow.

(very) Small bit of BluTak? Might sort out those wayward headboards too!

Tried Blu tak, and found that a large enough bit to hold securely tended to be too visible.Tacky Wax is better from that  point of view, but the main problem has been my inability to see properly at short range. I have just acquired a magnifying headband type thingy, so I hope things may improve in future.

Try Black Tak. Much stronger than Blue, but same principals.

Had nothing much to do last night, it being still +28C @ 22:00 I went to Vimeo and came across "Non Stop British Railways, In the Swinging Sixties" posted by Lewisham Bill.  There is between 5 and 10 minutes devoted to Peterborough North.  Perhaps a bit later than your period but still featuring the shed roof missing a chunk of its end cladding and many of the other bits and pieces you have modelled.  Don't know if you have seen it but well with watching.  Brings home the authenticity of PN the Model

No Jim, I haven't seen that one, so I'll try to seek it out.  Even the small details are really valuable now the layout has got to this stage.

I mixed up Ashburton Grove and Little Barford. Well they do sound very similar, don't they. :nono:

Of course they do Gilbert. Just like Solicitor & Prostitute do?

Took Me a while to work it out, but I think I finally made the connection.

I know what Derek was saying, and I also know that no offence was intended. In legal terms, a prostitute "solicits" for business, and so could be described as a "solicitor". A Solicitor, when I started in the profession anyway, could not advertise, and therefore although a solicitor, could not solicit, if you see what I mean. And of course, what is always referred to as " the oldest profession?"
