RMweb Premium great northern Posted October 4, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted October 4, 2018 Gilbert, I suspect ebay might be your friend here. You can generally get a reasonable price for a loco body on eBay. For example I’ve just bought a Bachmann E4,used the chassis to re-chassis my very old DJH N8, and then sold on the E4 body for £25 on eBay. I bought the whole E4 loco on eBay for £60, so after ebay fees the net cost of the chassis was about £38, not bad compared with the cost and effort of a kit built chassis! I think you could do the same with a B1.the loco would cost a bit more, but you could probably sell the body for c. £25 and the tender for c. £15. Andy Thanks Andy, I'll see what can be done. My other consideration is that I do rate the Hornby offering as a bit better than Bachmann's, bu they do cost rather more too.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted October 4, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 4, 2018 Bone rattling B1 has gone on shed, where it may well be failed, so the C12 has the job of propelling its stock down to the carriage sidings. Another of our more ancient specimens takes a few wagons down to East. Both of these are exactly as the camera saw them.

I agree that the Hornby model is better and if I was buying from scratch that’s where I’d start. But as you have nicely weathered and personalised bodies based on the Bachmann model, it’s surely worth making the most of them.

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted October 5, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 5, 2018 Another look at that rather dainty looking little 0.6.0. and after it had performed yet another move that temporarily blocked both main lines of the ECML, Great Central comes past heading the 3.10 Newcastle.
RMweb Premium great northern Posted October 5, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted October 5, 2018 I've just had a look on E bay, and find that Gazelle is not DCC ready, so it is a rather old model. I've found that the dreaded chassis problems occur over time irrespective of how much a loco has been used, so unfortunately I don't think it solves the problem.
RMweb Gold trw1089 Posted October 5, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 5, 2018 That J3 does look a picture, I wish I could justify one up my way, but perhaps I will keep pressing on with certain J6s in the meantime. Been enjoying catching up on all things PN, especially B17s and shiny A3s. As for B1s, I have 4 but I think I need another, though like you say, the Hornby offering is a tad expensive. Glad you got over your recent virus too Gilbert. Cheers Tony
Sandhole
Thanks Andy, I'll see what can be done. My other consideration is that I do rate the Hornby offering as a bit better than Bachmann's, bu they do cost rather more too. I have to agree with you. My Mainline B1 has gone to 'Sheffield Exchange'. Clive needed a chassis and I wasn't in need of it. It was starting to 'Mainline'!!!!! Hopefully he will get some use out of her. He was amazed I wanted no dosh. There was no way I could ask bread for that considering it was already starting to hunt!! My B1s? A Hornby one, bought when Hattons had a 'Brain in a Pickle Jar' moment and my piece de resistance, a Jameson beast built, beautifully by 'Coachbogies' late father, Brian, the Jameson Master!!!!!! Pulls what I put behind her and runs like a turbine. XO4 motor worm gear!!!!! Brian was a chassis god!!! She might not be massively detailed but from normal viewing distance, she looks like the funny looking loco I saw coming through centre road Manchester Exchange all those years ago!!!!!!!!!! J3? Lovely!!! Then again, I have a thing about small 0-6-0s Chris.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted October 5, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 5, 2018 A1 rather close. and then from quite a long way away. Some come out better than others. This one has special significnace though, as it was the 10,000th image taken with the Canon G12. Almost all of them have been of PN too, which gave me pause for thought.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted October 6, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 6, 2018 One footballer has just set off towards Harwich, and now another one arrives with a service from the same place. Golf later, with a forecast of heavy rain, brisk Northerly wind, and temperature "feels like 5 degrees C". Looking out of the window, it doesn't seem that they have got it wrong. Time to look for the winter gear.

RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted October 6, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 6, 2018 That didn't turn out too badly after all. Occasional spots of rain, and, as I'd put on several layers, not too cold either. Some decent golf too. Tonight's pictures feature the return of the empties from Little Barford power station, so we get a tender first 01. This has become the preferred option for loco portraits. and a close crop gives this one a nicely self contained look.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted October 7, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 7, 2018 The 01 continues slowly on its way, and passes the B17, which is having a rest. Path now blocked though, so the crew of the 01 can watch Minoru coming in with the afternoon Up Harrogate.
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted October 7, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 7, 2018 Another A3 on the Up, this time it's the Northumbrian, and 60109 has the job. I realised there was something not quite right here, and it dawned on me that I'd got the headboard the wrong side of the lamp iron, so I put it right. Then I took a close up as the loco approached the platform, only to find that the right hand lamp had subsided to an even worse angle, while the left hand one was more or less lying sideways along the buffer beam. Shot ruined and deleted. I don't know how it happens. Anyway, after 60109 had gone through, along came 60017, and reversed into the bay, ready to take over the Up Glasgow.
robmcg
60017 did of course have modest fame in pre-war days, here is a pic of her I made some time ago, not sure if you allow edited pics but no harm, I hope, in trying... what a fine engine! cheers, will remove if asked

KNP
Sometimes you take a picture and think....oh dear...that didn't quite work! Like this one Everything in the foreground is to dark as the sun was quite intense through the window throwing shadows all over the place. Then, you think, I have some powerful tools built into Affinity so using within filters the lighting tool, then a bit of cropping, cloning and some further brightness/contrast adjustment we ended up with a night time shot with a hybrid moon shining down. Well I like it but I'll leave it up to you guys to be the final judge. Edited October 8, 2018 by KNP

It could be a really nice view, but I must have tried it a hundred times in different light conditions, and with a variety of exposures, and I've never beaten it. RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted October 8, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 8, 2018 Coronation tank bringing in the stock for the 5.03pm to Grimsby. Big, bulky and yet still graceful. Mr Robinson was a very clever man who designed some lovely engines. Then we have another attempt to do something a bit different, but into the light. As usual, it doesn't really work, but what fool would have tried it in real life anyway?
RMweb Premium Popular Post great northern Posted October 8, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 8, 2018 I tried to cram rather a lot into this one. The Ivatt has arrived with the last Yarmouth of the day, the A5 heads on towards number 4 bay, and the A4 and N5 wait for the call to action. Then we come to trains that ran only yesterday, so I should be able to remember what they were doing. The first one is easy anyway, thanks to the headboard. Copley Hill's A1 Abbotsford has the Down West Riding.

Good morning Gilbert, Interesting shots, as always. May I make a suggestion, please? When I next come round I'll bring some screw-link couplings with me and may we spend (part of) the day fitting them, as appropriate, please? May we also have a go at straightening up vacuum standpipes? In my view, things like missing couplings ruin the illusion. Clearly, Bachmann's plasticky things just fall off. Regards, Tony.
