Mixing livery of coaches with Gresley and Thompson teaks during the BR era.

Look at the photo of 60125 Scottish Union on the Flying Scotsman for example. Even their most prestigious train has a mixture of coaches with at least three still in "simulated teak".

On the Maldon branch they used an almost brand new Thompson coach with a very ancient GER vehicle. A far greater contrast. As has been said, anything goes.

... and in Scotland you could mix in Mk1s, LMS stock of various vintages and pre-groping stock from native railways ..... yes even a few GER coaches found their way up there.
