LNER4471
During the BR era did it happen when Gresley and Thompson's teaks were mixed in sets, where both blood & custard and maroon liveries appeared in a rake?

roythebus1
In BR days anything that had the right class of seating was used, regardless of type, colour or design.
Wickham Green too
Generally true but 'sets' were mentioned and the coaches considered to be part of a permanent set would normally go through the paintshop together ........ but not always !
Steamport Southport
Have a look here. Plenty of photos of LNER/ER trains and their formations. https://www.steve-banks.org/prototype-and-traffic Look at the photo of 60125 Scottish Union on the Flying Scotsman for example. Even their most prestigious train has a mixture of coaches with at least three still in "simulated teak". https://www.steve-banks.org/prototype-and-traffic/147-the-flying-scotsman Jason

Fredo
Hi, would you have seen mixed rakes of Thompson and Gresley coaches in the early 60’s? Thanks Fred
Bernard Lamb
23 minutes ago, Fredo said: Hi, would you have seen mixed rakes of Thompson and Gresley coaches in the early 60’s? Thanks Fred On the Maldon branch they used an almost brand new Thompson coach with a very ancient GER vehicle. A far greater contrast. As has been said, anything goes. Thanks Fred ... and in Scotland you could mix in Mk1s, LMS stock of various vintages and pre-groping stock from native railways ..... yes even a few GER coaches found their way up there.
