The vac formed seats, bogies, chassis’s and rubber corridor connections will be discarded.

Hi Darius

I have one, and I am sure by the end of this week it won't be any different to how it is now.

a005.jpg.57a11a51658f2b3f0aa7c7cdb2a00382.jpg

Here it is coupled with my "I started so I might finish" conversion from a Hornby 110.

I also have a Craftsman etched overlay somewhere.

Living in Lincolnshire you can't have too many Derby Long Underframe units.

I look forward to seeing your model progress.

Hi Darius,

I've just bought the DC Kits version of this from Ebay, for what I consider a good price!  Like Clive. I live in Lincolnshire, although the northern part, and these were my local dmu's so, although not relevant for the areas I model I wanted one for sentimental reasons!  A 114 was the only dmu I managed to snag a cab ride in way back in 1976!  The kit comes with a Black Beetle power bogie which I'll put back on Ebay as I model in EM and, unless I can find a suitable power chassis in my boxed stash, I'll use you method to build one.

Looking forwards to seeing this build with great interest!

Waiting for that glue to cure must be torture for you!

Those vac-formed seats take me back (to 1975!) IIRC on my '119' I covered the aluminium floors with 10thou plasticard - almost certainly attached with Evo-stik as it didn't matter if it melted it a bit, I just felt gluing that many plastic seats to plastic would be better than gluing them to the alloy floor individually with stringy Evo-stik. MTK kits were ingenuity tests in many ways*, as the instructions assumed everything fitted together like Airfix kits and you could just 'fit this to that' regardless of the materials involved - those rubber corridor connections being one such example!

Watching progress as usual....

*which you regularly pass with flying colours 😁!

I also took the opportunity to remove the cast lights and lamp irons from the cab fronts.  The units didn’t have cab front lights but did have a central roof light above the destination blind box.

MTK incorrectly provides the former and (also incorrectly) omits the latter.

Cheers

Darius,

great work, as ever sharp modelling. Also as ever I a part started one and even a part started Craftsman etc. I used to enjoy guarding TO23 from TS depot back in a past time, smooth comfortable units - I guess the length might have helped, big van as well. I got bikes, push chairs and proper prams in with ease.  Too slow for Cross-city work unless the cupboard was bare.  i enjoyed it on the Darkside on Shirley shuttles.

The lima pancake motor was too rough  but now a modern Limby bogie would be fine.

hope to enjoy rest of the build.

I take it that’s a rhetorical question?

Good ol' BR blue - saves a lot of messin' around, dunnit?!

I note you've headed the latest instalment 'Day 3' - I can't decide if you're engaged in a personal challenge or just showing off now 😜! Of course, unlike the Ultrasonic Test unit, this one requires a full interior so there's still stuff to do.......

I am planning on a 114, but can't find my spare underframes.

Going to use Lima shells, DC cabs, my domes, craft cut side overlays

Looking very good. Just a few inaccurate bits, exhaust system going the wrong way from no2 engine, heater control panels on trailer car never fitted.

Hi - grateful if you could point out the errors on the photos I’ve posted and I will make the corrections.  The underframes on the photos I looked at on the web were indistinct so it was a matter of guesswork.   Useful to have help from someone that knows where stuff should be so to speak.

Cheers

You've changed the exhaust on one side already. Lovely stuff.
