Kenton
I have always wondered how I ever managed without one, although a great fan of the GW rivet press I just cannot see why I need a quartering jig when my mark 1 eye seems to be able to tell me pretty well what is 90° PS a corner of a business card can also be used as a visual clue, the human eye is quite good at seeing if things are out of alignment or not straight. Besides I seem to always have wheels on/off when all the brake gubbins are in place.
rgmichel
There are eye complaints that actually prevent you from seeing straight lines easily, although the brain often does a wonderful job of compensating. So, for some people with aging eyes I think the quartering function is likely very useful. You can check how good your eyes are at looking at straight lines by using an "Amsler grid". You have to look at the grid with each eye. If you use both eyes your brain may have compensated and you won't see wiggles. Just looking at a spreadsheet grid on a good computer screen can show this up too. Dazzler Fan
I landed up making my own too, when I lost one I bought in the. 1970's.
Smiffy2
Does anyone know if these jigs are still available, and if so, from where?
Jol Wilkinson
If looking for something from a supplier, start here; http://www.clag.org.uk/russ/supplier.html He was still selling them at expoEM in May.
RMweb Premium Siberian Snooper Posted September 15, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 15, 2014 Does anyone know if these jigs are still available, and if so, from where? I think he is on the list of traders at Scaleforum Aylesbury in a couple of weeks time.
Portchullin Tatty
Yes he (GW Models) will be. I also endorse the use of these.
Smiffy2
Thanks for that. There's no way I can get to Aylesbury, so I'll send him a postcard!
decauville1126
Thanks for that. There's no way I can get to Aylesbury, so I'll send him a postcard! George usually has an ad in Model Railway Journal which quotes prices and postage in UK, and also most importantly his address in Lancing, West Sussex to which to send your cheque to. He doesn't do online sales, just mail order (cheque payments only) and some of the more specialised shows (cash). No electronic payments such as PayPal or credit/debit cards. Weaselfish
You can give him a call too - his number is 01903 767231. I used that when I bought a wheel press off him a couple of months ago. Pleasant gent to do business with.
JeffP
I've got the big'un, it wasn't that price when I bought it. So far it does more than I've needed, but it's best to have one that does everything, so as not to have to replace when something it can't do comes up. IMHO. micklner
I have one the "buttons" which the axles fit into appeared to be jammed , I presume they should push inwards when the wheels are pressed on the axles ? Any suggestions for a cure please.
david.hill64
WD40?

Any particular reason for not using WD40?
Jol Wilkinson
Because it is a water repellent, lubricating spray and not actually a dedicated penetrating oil like Plusgas. Pg works much better for unsticking things.

JaymzHatstand
Slightly off topic, but as its relevant to GW Models, here seems to be a sensible enough place! In the advert on the current MRJ, it mentions a 6" and 10" mini roller, I presume this is a boiler rolling tool? If anyone can shed any light, I'd be most grateful! Cheers J Edited to sort out an autocorrect faux pas!
RMweb Gold Bucoops Posted October 2, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 2, 2017 Boilers, wrappers, cab roofs, rails (for the 6" one) etc. Decent bit of kit it is too.
