Are you sure you're all where you say you are in your profiles?  Edinburgh is so busy today, I think half the world's population is here, which means that the balance of probablility says that some of you are here too...

Heading up that way and beyond on Saturday; Driving from Hampshire to Aberdeenshire (for the sunshine) and back via Borth in Wales (for the nightlife).  :)

I also don't recall ever having any Welsh beer. I think some Brains product may be available in Tesco. Though mention of consuming brains always reminds me of my grandfather. He always had two lambs brains on toast for his "tea" on Monday. Probably illegal now!

Tony

As a kid, we were sometimes able to get sheep's brains and it was soaked overnight in cold salted water before being lightly boiled and dished up on toast - delicious! I have had brains of ox and sheep several times in that land of culinary delights haunted by Olddudders and (presently) Ashcombe, including in a restaurant in Domfront not too far from them many years ago. It was usually served up as a cold, pressed meat dish with chutneys. I wish we could get it over here still.

Oooh, Skull Attack. Does what it says.... They say it couldn't travel, as you really never saw it outside Cardiff in the 70's.

Are Brains still in Caroline Street? Used to drink Dark in the Quebec, part way between Bute Street, & East Canal Wharf. I think that's all gone now.

As an aside, one of my work colleagues had a relative working in the UB, at Pontyclun. They had a tasting every so often, and I was always wrong shift. Blast!

It's just after 7:15 PM on July 31 here in Greater Vancouver. There has been no rain recorded here in the month of July. If we make it to midnight without rain, it will be the first calendar month without even a trace of rain since records began here. However - there are showers forecast for overnight!!! Will we make it to midnight without any falling on the official recording station at the airport??? The suspense is almost unbearable ...

Good morning all Early Risers.

Talking of pies we have a number of competing pie manufacturers here who have their own 'franchise' outlets as well as supplying Delicatessens. They too manufacture a list of pies including some, though not all of those on Barry O's list

Omitted from Barry's list are Pepper steak, Cornish Pastie, Chicken and Mushroom.

Very messy to eat as the pastry is extremely flakey, so much pastry flakes end up on ones lap.

Weather is warming up - temporarily, max temp due today is 23C but being predawn at the moment I am currently wearing  5 layers of upper garments. Long Johns omitted for now.

Good morning all,

my GF who lives to the south of Vancouver was getting very excited last night about the lack of rain.....here very heavy down-pours have been forecast for today - tomorrow..we'll see!

So what ever you're up to to day (can I ask the pie committee to add Pecan & Mississippi Mud pies?)  enjoy!

Morning All,

It is a really nice morning at present.  I am off to a meeting in the other building shortly - which means a short walk in the sunshine.

It is due to get a lot warmer later though.  It is due to officially reach "stinking hot" this afternoon.

Have a good day everyone...

There was some mist around us here insurers this morning but its now burnt off and is a clear sky. It's going to be a warm day around 31 degrees C here in the South East.

Another parcel to pick up but bus was very late so we had to walk to station so parcel will have to wait till tomorrow now

Good morning all,

Dry,blue sky,sunshine, 18oC & looks like it will be a hot one.

Today I am on tenterhooks because it is Annual Gas Boiler Service day! The gas man cometh between 8.00 & 10.00 AM.

He will enter the kitchen & look at the aforesaid boiler & then it will hopefully go something like this:

Sharp intake of breath & "That's getting on a bit"

"Yes, so am I but we both still function"

"It's not to current standards"

"Neither am I but we both still function"

"It's very inefficient compared to modern boilers"

"So am I but we still both function"  (You've probably noticed a pattern emerging here)

"Have you had any problems with it?"

"Neither with it nor myself - we both still............."

"It draws very well for one that age"

"Me too.........we both......."

"You really should consider replacing it"

"Will a new one last over 20 years without a problem?

Pursed lips, wry smile & "I don't think we could promise that. Here's your report, you will see that I've advised you that etc etc"

"Thank you so much, see you next year, Goodbye!"

You will note that I said earlier it will "hopefully" go like that - we will see!

Have a good one,

Bob.

Morning all. enjoying the sun here in the boring borough before I set off to LHR. Really looking forward to 2 hours of crawl and curse on the M25. Well not so much.

Speaking of pies and not pi, we've got a reasonably good pie & mash shop just down the road. Not as good as Manze's but better than most. May just have to take the tourists for a ye olde London experience. Will probably skip the jellied eel though. Never could develop a taste for that.

Have a good one everybody.
