RMweb Gold Tony_S Posted January 25, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 25, 2015 Don't you fancy going along for the ride Tony? York is a smashing place to spend a day. Walk around the walls if the weather's good, hide in the NRM if not. Ed I think we will have a long weekend in York sometime soon. I will be going to Enfield tomorrow. Aditi's cousin is visiting to see my MiL and I will be going too. Matthew will be going after he finishes studying for the day. I haven't met this cousin but Matthew has, she has recently started studying at Bath University and he met her when he visited Bath with some friends recently. RMweb Premium New Haven Neil Posted January 25, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 25, 2015 John Killybegs -- Derbyshire is a name seldom out of my mind: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MV_Derbyshire Having served on her previously, I was supposed to be on her as an engineer officer when she sunk. She was late calling at Cape Town for crew change, I went to the Staffordshire instead...the lad who took my place was lost of course, as were all. Lost several good friends on her, some real tragedies. For interest - the '98' in the engine spec 'Burmeister & Wain K98FF' is for 98 cm bore....think about that for a moment! 30,400 shaft horsepower. AndyB
Evening all and it's drawing towards the end of a relaxing weekend. It's been too cold to spend much time out in the garage working on the layout so I brought a few bits in. For Christmas I was kindly given a few Timecast allotments and a flicker unit with which to animate a bonfire. They'll sit towards the front of my grungy N gauge layout. Originally the layout was conceived as being set in dismal autumn - I'm guessing the allotment must portray a lot of winter brassicas! Need to find an N gauge figure with a pitchfork to feed the bonfire. As for the Met forecast for the week - and now with a keen eye on whether I'll be on playground duty or looking after a number of classes indoors - I think it'll be cold and dry hereabouts. Looking at Countryfile tonight the forecaster mentioned some cold weather heading this way from Iceland in a dew days.

Popular Post railsquid
Morning. Cold grey morning. Baby finally coming home later today, he was at the in-laws last night, which is kind of traditional in Japan to give the mother some time to recover while the hard-working salaryman husband is slaving away at work. Which is all very nice in principle, however it turns out MiL is only marginally more useful than a sack of rice when it comes to looking after babies as her MiL basically raised MiL's children (my wife and her brother). Which lead to the slightly bizarre situation of me taking over their kitchen and giving orders when it came to preparing a bottle of milk, which I don't recall doing before but pretty sure I must have assisted with/been around a lot when bottles were being prepared at some point in the distant past, as the process seemed remarkably familiar. Even to the point of knowing to sling baby over shoulder and burp him. Must have been from when my cousins were young. (Note to self: remove bear traps, mythical swords hanging from the ceiling by a thread etc. from around the house)
Popular Post andyram
Good evening all. I have not managed to make it online for a while. Did you miss me? I hope all of you are ok and there are no health or family dramas affecting you. I have not managed to catch up with everybody's news. I am just trying to come down to Earth after an amazing weekend. A lifetime's ambition achieved last night. I saw Queen live in concert. I was a little too young to see the legendary Freddie Mercury live as he died when I was 15. I never thought I would ever see them. In December we found out about their tour. All tickets in Nottingham sold out. But we put our names on the waiting list, had almost given up hope. Four days before last night's show we got the e-mail. Two tickets in a hospitality box purchased. Cue major excitement. The show was everything I had hoped for and more. Freddie's mum was in attendance. Brian May's tribute was great a spine tingling version on "Love of my life" with Freddie on the big screen. So emotional Brian needed help from the audience at one point. The new front man, Adam Lambert, was amazing. The voice, showmanship and campness that likened him to Freddie without trying to be him. Brilliant throughout especially on "Don't stop me now" and "Killer Queen". The Bohemian Rhapsody was memorable with Lambert dueting with Freddie on the big screen. So many highlights that I have chills just remembering the evening. Sarah and I loved it and had the hangovers from the complimentary drinks this morning. Still can't quite believe it happened. Dream come true! Edited January 25, 2015 by andyram
Jock67B
Evening all, Tonight didn't turn out as I'd hoped as I ended up emulating Rodin's sculpture 'The Thinker' on the throne this afternoon - seems I've caught a bug and now with a temperature, the Burns supper kit is still in the fridge and I've been taking the pills that my chemo nurse gave me for such an eventuality! We'll have it when I feel better - as the French would say : c'est la vie! Hope your Sunday was better than mine, although I did get some coving up between visits! Kind regards, Jock. PS 'andyram' - we watched the set on TV on New Year's Eve and, despite being basically a classical fan, found it very moving! G'night Pete - stay safe if that weather hits mate! RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted January 26, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 26, 2015 G'night all. Big day tomorrow with one bloke coming to replace a hefty run of the front fence plus another coming to replace the collapsed tyre and another on my car - both arriving c.09.00! Sorry to hear about your upset evening Jock - actually I think the French would be far more likely to say 'c'est la grippe' which appeared to be the term used for any unknown upset of just about any part of the body that couldn't be given a specific title and anything varying from 'I feel grotty' to 'I must travel to Paris to see my Doctor/a specialist'.

emt_911
Morning all. Congratulations Martin. A balmy 6 degrees here this morning with a bit of a breeze. Nothing reported as being wrong with Southern (we'll see). I hope everyone's day goes to plan especially those travelling to LBG with even more changes today.
AndyB
Congrats to Martin and Mrs Martin and the newly arrived night owl. Nearly "Hi Ho" time here - 3 weeks to go till a week off. Apparently quite mild outside today - about 9oC and light cloud. As yet it is too dark due to heavy cloud to tell whether the forecast is true or not. A snow flake has been forecast for Thursday at 08:00 with a second one due for later the same day. These forecasters must have good seaweed. Have a nice day everyone. RMweb Gold roundhouse Posted January 26, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 26, 2015 (edited) Morning all.Weekend flown by. Saturday morning spent helping an ex work colleague sort out his new PC put password protection on his wifi and change the default router login details. Also set up his numerous tablets so that his kids can't download adult content. Should have blocked his aswell!!!Then it was a few beers with him in Littlehampton.Yesterday a whole day working on the layout. Too cold to do any work outside! Now it's back to the weekly commute. The nationwide real time info is down so very little information available at the station plus ongoing flooding at Farringdon due to a burst water main adding to the confusion.Imagine the chaos this would cause once the full Thameslink service starts running in 2018!!!Luckily our train to LBG is only a few minutes late so far. UPDATE - delayed at Purley as they let a stopper from Caterham // Tattenham Corner go in front of us so 15 late into LBG- so a normal morinng commute!!!A friend who has recently had a bone marrow transplant has been moved back to Kings hospital from Brighton so hoping to go see him tonight depending how he is. Killybegs
Congratulations Martin and, of course, to your wife. I've just seen Steph off to work (running late this morning!) and it's cold, dark and windy, so I think I will wait until it brightens up a bit before I take the dogs out. The forecast is for an occasional shower so we may stay dry. That makes a change from yesterday, when it rained solidly from lunchtime right through into the night. Consequently, no long walk but he dogs and I swam up through the forest instead! It's a shame the dogs no longer appreciate long walks so, as Steph's knee is still 'mending', they tend to be solitary affairs. So yesterday was an odd jobbing indoor day which included updating my website. This hadn't been done for a while so I wasted a lot of time looking for my user name and password! I used to know them off by heart but everything changed when the hosting site changed their server set up last year. It seems winter is returning on Wednesday, gales and snow, ugh. Chin up! Argh, it's raining again. Bye for now.
