Tassie Tex
Morning all from what was a purler of a day at the bottom of the world. Congrates to Andy on 10 years. Good to read Archie is on the mend. Dom I love your photography, very crisp clear piccie's. Dishwashers, never owned one never will, surprisingly a lot of towns are not connected to mains water. We have been on tank water (rain) for several years, I feel it is quicker buy hand and uses less of that precious water. In agreeance with all on news from Jock. Seen my favourite doctor yesterday, he advised me that my specialist said if I gave up smoking he would consider a full lung transplant. I told him they can save that for one who deserves them. There are more people who have never smoked that are more deserving. My daughter Kirsty unfortunately never received that chance with her asthma, they and others with lung disorders who have never smoked deserve it more I think. It would make me feel selfish to have one, then have some poor soul pass away because one was no longer available. Ave a good day and I'll try to catch up more in the morrow, up ya kilt Tex.
railsquid
Tsunami expected to arrive around 6am local time tomorrow (so in about 11 hours), estimated height between 20cm and 1m. We'll get better data when it passes Hawaii. I should point out that Chez Railsquid is located at around 45m above sea level well inland near the highest point of the city of Tokyo proper, which itself is well-protected by Tokyo Bay, so no risk from any tsunamis (or put another way, if a tsunami does find its way up here, it's good night civilisation anyway). Etymological trivia: "tsunami" literally means "port" or "harbour" wave ("nami" is "wave"), as before the age of global networked monitoring systems etcetera all that was really known was that sometimes the water in the harbour would suddenly rise up for no apparent reason.
RMweb Gold Tony_S Posted September 17, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 17, 2015 Microwaves have a limited repertoire. Much more useful is a micro-air, aka combi-oven. With that, a single person or couple can cook by most means - grill, roast, bake etc, using rather less power to do so than a conventional oven. Marvellous for pies and pizzas. We have one of those microwave, grill, hot air ovens too. Our main oven is just the standard single size so for times when the extended family visit having a second oven even of limited capacity is useful. I haven't had to resort to using the barbecue at Christmas yet. Tony
AndrewC
. I haven't had to resort to using the barbecue at Christmas yet. Tony Try it. worked great last year with the turkey having a nice crispy skin and a subtle smoky hint.
RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted September 17, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 17, 2015 Another find on Facebook "English men between 50 to 70 years of age on average have sex two or three times a week, whereas Japanese men in the same age group will only have sex once or twice a year..this is very upsetting to many of my friends as they had no idea they were Japanese."
edcayton
Tex, I'd like to think that a return to "up ya kilt" as a sign-off means you are feeling a bit better. Ed

The Lurker
Greetings all, it's been busy this morning so no time to catch up fully til now Congratulations to Andy on 10 years. I enjoyed the tapas last night though I did manage to knock a glass of red wine over myself. Annoying - the wine was good! If anyone is looking for a good tapas place, then check out Iberica. We ate at the one on Gt Portland Street but there are half a dozen others around, including several in Manchester Enjoy your day!
Jock67B
Afternoon all I'm glad to say that grandson Matthew had his operation on the 15th and amazingly was sitting in the bedside chair on the morning of the 16th. He is over the first hurdle but obviously, there is still quite a long way to go and he feels like he 'has been run over by a bus'! He really appreciated all the good wishes on here, as I did. I regret that I've been unable to post since the night of the 14th because my super fast and reliable (their words) fibre optic broadband failed and I've been so busy with taxi service etc. (whilst Matthew's partner and parents spent two days at Basildon whilst he had the op.) that I have only just had a chance to get it sorted out! The young man in Mumbai was a great help and taught me what to do if it happens again. I've not long been back from the radiotherapy department at Colchester General Hospital today, where they applied a large single dose of radiation to the tumours in my pelvis. This will hopefully reduce the level of pain I've been experiencing, although it will get worse for a time as some good nerves around the area also suffer, and take a couple of weeks to recover. With no internet access, I've had no chance to catch up on here and although busy this afternoon and evening, I will attempt to start working back through the pages I've missed tonight. Meanwhile, apologies if I've missed anything important - hopefully we'll return to what passes as normal round these parts soon, Kind regards, Jock.

RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted September 17, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 17, 2015 Marvellous news, Jock, that will hearten (sorry) a great many people on here. So glad you have been able to post. Your own treatment is also good news. And, as others have said before - what an example you are to us all! Popular Post AndyB
Really good to see Jock back and with such good news. Thanks all for the anniversary wishes. We celebrated with a pub lunch down in Alresford. We would have gone by train but the times didn't work out. I guess a fair number of you know this part of the world but for those that don't there's a nice walk by the river Arle and a pub looking out over the pond. Edit: and if my punctuation is awry then this may speak volumes about the beer, too. Edited September 17, 2015 by AndyB
RMweb Premium petethemole Posted September 17, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 17, 2015 Good to see good news of Matthew, Jock and Archie the dog, and happy anniversary to AndyB and Mrs AndyB. Stewart, your venture into online shopping reminded me of this http://nicolpawn.ca/media/blogs/pawn/shop-from-home.jpg. I think I first saw it on a greetings card. Something's gone wrong with our oven but fortunately the microwave has a Combi function and is fine for pizzas and the like. I have a warranty on the oven....just need to find it. Off out shortly, then off to school for the year 11 GCSE information evening. Hmmm. Have a good day Pete

I hope he keeps his rolled towel close by him ready for the dreaded sneeze. I still put a hand across my chest as a sneeze builds up pressure prior to detonation. You look after yourself also Jock. 34theletterbetweenB&D
Somewhat of a panic earlier this week. Several of the parental generation on both sides of the family achieved neatly coordinated confusion by messing up their continuing essential prescription drug supplies. Ian Abel
Great news Jock. Happy anniversary Andy and Mrs. BIN day here, hissing with ran and heavy thunderstorms overnight. Apparently that meant the newspaper should be delivered in the middle of the new path 30ft. from the house. Papier mache when I retrieved it even though it was in a plastic bag. The delivery company now get the pleasant task of coming BACK OUT HERE with a replacement If ERs can spare some thoughts/prayers whatever you find appropriate, for Jemma, I'd appreciate it. She's been doing fine for weeks now, but yesterday had to bail out again on the first day of her latest trip, with this sinus issue, that appeared to have gone away, but has returned it seems. She's now very distressed, setting up an appointment at the Mayo clinic with a specialist (one of her flying friends had a similar issue and they helped resolve it). Nontheless, it's extremely disconcerting. Have a good BIN day folks.
RMweb Premium Barry O Posted September 17, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 17, 2015 (edited) Congrats Mr and Mrs Andy! Great news Jock.. and keep on going - don't let them pesky cancery growth bits cause any more pain. Moi and eldest Herbert visited Deebenhams.. to buy her indoors' birthday choice a multiple bin kitchen bin... its on £200(!) me - I'd stick with a cardboard box but.... However the store card bounced (its a renewed one) and the old store card bounced...so returned home and ordered it on line using my other credit card..Humph! We have a new SMEG double oven which I have to say is absolutely ferocious! I may need till Christmas to get ready for cooking Christmas lunch. And something to keep Jock cheerful.. yep another Duchess... Baz Edited September 17, 2015 by Barry O

If Gemma has sinus problems she has my sincere sympathy - I hope Mayo can help - but just don't pour it ( the Heinz variety ) out of the jar and straight up her nose - that will really bung it up!
