RMweb Gold grandadbob Posted December 25, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 25, 2016 (edited) Good morning and a Very Merry Christmas to you all. Dry fresh start and the forecast is for a cloudy and mild day with patchy drizzle and the possibility of some brief brighter intervals. Very quiet here as our visitors will not arrive until about 10.30 when I expect the decibel level to go through the roof. The Boss of course has everything planned like a military operation. As usual my main task will be to keep out from under her feet and run the bar. I can do that. Apart from that all I need to do is sharpen my carving knife....... Have a great day, Bob. Popular Post iL Dottore
Good Morning and A Merry Christmas to all. I'm now at the Holiday Hovel with Mrs iD and the Wolfpack (who are currently out for their morning constitutional). Upon secret communication from the Stationmaster (and with guidance from some ERs) Mrs iD got a Christmas card with a gift certificate for a present of her choice (a fine dining experience, an iPad accessory of choice or a DVD boxed set of choice) But no Christmas present for me, alas. Mrs iD deemed the new "Jesus Phone" (iPhone) I acquired just before we left as my Christmas present (A freak accident involving the Wolfpack and a mantelpiece broke my old Microsoft phone). I have NO idea why techno-geeks refer to the iPhone as a "Jesus Phone" but, I am reliably informed, it is apparently so. Although I may be bereft of presents there's still my "secret Santa" - JohnDMJ - who agreed to help me acquire a GWR loco that has been newly released. Sadly, no proper Christmas lunch this year. We'll be out for lunch and supper will be smoked salmon and toast. So no turkey, sprouts, roast potatoes or Christmas pudding and custard. But on a positive note, no turkey leftovers lasting into February.... Have a wonderful day with your family and friends iD Edited December 25, 2016 by iL Dottore
Robert
Morning all, Wishing all of you, and your families a very Merry Christmas and all the best for 2017. Thank you all for your online friendship. I hope to actually get some modelling done in 2017! Unfortunately, the weather is wet and dreary and therefore not particularly Christmassy - but I will light the log burner shortly and we are waiting for Thomas to arrive. Have a wonderful day everyone...
RMweb Gold Tony_S Posted December 25, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 25, 2016 Good Morning and Christmas greetings to all. I think we have similar weather to Robert. Cloudy, breezy but quite warm here. It isn't raining at the moment. Not a lot happening here this morning. I have made tea, let the dog out for a run, and sliced bread ready for toasting. Everything for lunch is ready to be cooked at various times this morning. Tony

emt_911
Morning all. A quiet day for me where a fair bit of modelling should be accomplished as I'm on call. No alcohol but plenty of coffee. RMweb Premium Popular Post 45156 Posted December 25, 2016 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 25, 2016 (edited) Merry Christmas All To all ERs' I offer the heartiest of season's greeting and may all your parcels be train shaped. Morning started with a very delicious bacon and mushroom roll and a strong coffee, and dinner preparations will start shortly, as I am chef today. I think I hear my sous-chef prepping some of the veg. Lily is walked (first of the day) and the village is starting to waken now - though some of the households with kids were certainly lit when i went down at six to make a coffee and to let Lil out to do her business. Now in memory of the late Jock, who has clearly been in our thoughts this festive season, here's something that he really liked (with apologies for the quality, but this computer has mislaid my decent Duchess pics at Carnforth, so these are just cheapo camera standare I'm afraid). Yuletide regards to all, back later hopefully. Edited December 25, 2016 by 45156
jonny777
Merry Christmas from a mild but windy Somerset. I did not have time to get everyone here a proper present, so this is Tregenna Castle on the turntable at Carmarthen on the 24th of March 1962; by way of compensation.

RMweb Gold Popular Post The Stationmaster Posted December 25, 2016 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted December 25, 2016 Morning all and repeat of earlier compliments of the season. Christmas Dinner production well underway in the kitchen and it will be interesting to see what time it arrives but I suspect we'll be eating as we listen to her Majesty as that's about the usual mark - nice time to eat and avoids a massive tea! I definitely amended my 'one glass of wine a week' rule round at the neighbours last night - well you have to be sociable don't you - and that fizzy stuff doesn't really count does it as it's full of bubbles so 'several' glasses of that is probably no more than one glass of wine (I kid you not, even if I am probably kidding myself). Anyway enjoy your day, don't eat or drink too much and - if you have any younger ones - don't strangle too many children, Christmas is for them to enjoy even if they might get a bit noisy.

RMweb Gold Tony_S Posted December 25, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 25, 2016 Turkey in oven. Breakfast eaten. Returned phone call to MiL who rang before we were awake. Matthew suggested perhaps his mother should have rung before having a couple of glasses of fizzy Italian wine before chatting to her extended family. She conversed in quite a few languages some of which she doesn't know.
RMweb Premium New Haven Neil Posted December 25, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 25, 2016 Does the Supreme Court in the UK have jurisdiction over the IoM? Yes, we have our own Attorney General, and Court of General Gaol, but as we are a crown dependency, the higher Courts do have jurisdiction. I only ever appeared in Magistrates, and not in the box I'll have you know! A little fuzzy headed here this morning - empty beer and red wine bottles tell the tale. Donk got a new Teddy, so is happy in his work. Neighbours to be blamed for the hangover haven't appeared yet!
Coombe Barton
Persuaded the vacuum cleaner to work - of sorts. On the advertising it's the model good with pet hair. Please note the singular. Try to pick more than one up and it bu99ers up completely. New one Tuesday.
RMweb Premium 45156 Posted December 25, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 25, 2016 (edited) Dinner done and just needs to be cooked - didn't get a turkey as for two of us, we'd be having leftovers curry/ragout/casserole/sandwiches until after Easter. I also am not all that keen on Christmas pudding sandwiches. One odd thing happened, as 30747 has been after a specific item from a well known Austrian crystal maker, and I had it on bookmark as I was going to get it for her as a New Year present. Clicked on the link by mistake when trying to get here, and it was showing as being put in their sale at half price - first time I've ever bought online on Christmas Day, and 30747 was chuffed to bits. Opened one present which I hoped might be train shaped, but instead there was very neatly packed pint glass and several bottles of Watermill beers, one of which is already poured and sliding down beautifully as I type - well it IS Christmas after all. The beer in question is And at 7% I'm quite glad that it's only a 33 ml bottle. It's pretty tasty stuff and will help to get the day swinging along. Oh and one final thing, I was stunned when I went to the German supermarket beginning with A to get ALL of the veg that we wanted including the spuds for 19p a bag - AND their smoked salmon (our starter by tradition) is twice as good as the one that we usually get and a quid cheaper - looking forward to tucking in later. Possibly back again after dinner. Edited December 25, 2016 by 45156
Coombe Barton
No drinking yet - have to move cars to allow SWMBO to go out and collect her aunt. So it's no drinking for her today. For me on the other hand ...
Popular Post AndyB
Good morning everyone and a very Merry Christmas to one and all. Slight fuzzy headedness today as I had a close encounter with a bottle of Pinot Noir whilst helping a neighbour assemble a trampoline, followed by an extended trip to the pub to celebrate successful assembly.
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted December 25, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 25, 2016 Morning all from Estuary-Land. Woke up this morning with an earworm, 'Boughs of holly'. How can I be a grinch if I keep humming Christmas carols? Anyway have a great Christmas day all and enjoy yourselves.
