Popular Post tigerburnie
Well it's more like winter here at the moment, radiator on, desk lamp on and it's dark and chuckinitdarn out there, not even ventured outside the door this morning, but need to collect some tablets from the chemists, so will have to don a sou'wester and be a brave soldier/sailor etc. Might make a dash for the diy shed for some brackets, see ya later 1
Popular Post lightengine
Sunny Teignmouth was struggling to be sunny today with sea fog hanging around. Mother has been rushed into hospital for check on possible PE as she has been short of breath recently. So I am sat in the Ambulatory dept. My missus is waiting for a gp call back for possible anaemia drugs. What an interview on Radio 5 Live this morning from Liam Gallagher. In a 2 or 3 minute interview he managed to say "you know what I mean" about 18 times. At one stage he managed a double "know what I mean" within seconds. Almost as eloquent as that orange orator over the pond. 2 7
RMweb Premium Popular Post Gwiwer Posted June 24, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 24, 2019 Good Afterlunch all It is somewhat warm and humid Upon the Hill of Strawberries but neither is at the levels reached around 07.30 this morning. Shirt-sleeves and (mandatory) hi-viz were too hot and the tie had to go. Tomorrow being forecast likewise I might be obliged to parade in uniform bathers with hi-viz flotation arm-bands It is also medickle week - the first of several - with SWMBO having seen the GP earlier today. She was found to have a blood pressure and given something to take to lower it a bit. She was also reassured that her anxiety level is normal in the days before surgery and was nothing to fret over. We shall see tonight whether that advice has taken root. Tomorrow it is my turn. A follow-up to the six-month cough which I am finally and hopefully permanently rid of. On Thursday SWMBO returns to the hospital for the result of her second sleep assessment. At her request I shall be with her in case the news drives her anxiety back off the scale as happened the last time. Currently I have no computer access as I am in the throes of decommissioning one and setting up another. The process is being delayed by a need for a pair of AAA batteries. Our village shop doesn’t sell them. It’s a decent walk to the next likely outlet and not one I wish to make for such a small item. These things can wait. I can access most of my life via the Telling Bone. Best wishes to one and all. 7

Our flight from Gatwick was delayed 15 minutes due to lack of crew (their previous flight was delayed) but we arrived in Milan 5 minutes early. 32C and sunny here. It may get warmer though the instructions for our trip on Wednesday are to wear sensible shoes and warm clothing. I shall definitely take my hat. RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted June 24, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 24, 2019 Good afternoon all. The sparky has left and the electrickey in the shed is now in a much better state. All the now redundant 3 phase outlets can now have 240v sockets fitted to them, using the previous wiring. This gives me much more flexibility than the previous set up and the various extension leads can be put away. the pool pump/filter is running a lot better on the full voltage. I will now be able to plug the layout in using it's proper lead that drops down from the ceiling. This whole saga came to light when I found myself having to use a 60W iron to solder small leads where I would have normally used a 15W one. The trains also ran very slowly so I eventually tested the supply and found that they were only getting 140 volts. The bill was very good as well. When I got the post there was more good news as my tax code has altered as my registration as a French taxpayer has finally been recognised by HMRC. Not only has this raised my monthly income but after talking to HMRC there is a substantial refund due shortly. I have to ask how many modelling tokens will that produce. Popular Post Ian Abel
Moaning all. Weekend a flurry of activity of various sorts, however modeling managed to be avoided Saturday we spent much of the day "hanging out" with Trevor and Meagan, discussing their varous plans and them having requested the benefit of our input. Saturday evening a great choir party, enjoyed certainly by me and the Mrs, and hopefully "all". Sunday spent most of the day at the new house, my tasks included installing a couple of ceiling fans, the Mrs painting her "room" and the bathroom. We have his and hers "rooms" in the new place so she's anxious to get that to her liking. Other work there seems to be moving along, although the contractor had hoped to have the main area painted last week, but the new back door hasn't arrived yet, and that'll make a mess of the area around it which will need re-finishing, the paining is delayed - oh well. Weather here was variable all weekend, some rain showers and some nice periods. Today 13 first thing and cloudy, heading for 21 and rain off-and-on most of the day supposedly. Onward... 15 2

Lordin Ittup Estate agents are not so daft as you may think. He is just trying to make a deal which gives him the best chance of picking up a commission - as quickly as possible. Some agents' photos are unbelievably bad. Do they really think that we want to look at an Emin-style unmade bed? One large chain is particularly bad for this. Don't know where you are and your local property market. But there is always a range of estate agents. Some specialise in low-end, some high-end and some the middle. Very important to chose the right agent for your property. You may well get the best service from the agent that is selling the flat to you. He/she has an interest ( a double interest even) in making it work. 8

RMweb Premium Popular Post PhilJ W Posted June 24, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 24, 2019 Evening all from Estuary-Land. Joseph, one of our local estate agents is called by the locals Bar-stewards and Thieves, a rhyming pun on their name and not without good reason. I took my friends daughter to Orsett, she had one of her friends accompanying her so I left her at the hospital and collected her later. Only slight problem was a junior school directly opposite the hospital and when I went to collect her it was school turning out time and a fleet of badly driven/parked Chelsea tractors to negotiate. When we got back to my friends home next door to his house is a dentists, they are having a clear out and have a large skip in the car park. In the skip were a number of box files, hardly used so with the permission of the dental staff I retrieved them and I also found a Canon scanner in there and retrieved that also. I will be having it checked out to see if it still works. Time to put the kettle on, be back later.

It might be an idea to use just one phase in the shed, a different phase for the pool and a third for something else, as there is still the potential for TWO phase voltage to be present between circuits on different phases. In the UK this would be 415 volts and is certainly more lethal than 230 volts. If you must use two phases, try using different phases at each end of the shed, with at least a minimum of 8 feet between sockets on different phases. 6 4 1
RMweb Premium Popular Post Dave Hunt Posted June 24, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 24, 2019 Examination of The Toe this morning revealed it is still infected despite two courses of antibugtactics. The swab that was taken last Thursday showed that the particular bugs should have been taken care of by them but they haven't. Enter a GP who put me on a further, double dose, course of the same antibugthingies and then dropped the bombshell - "It could be that you are diabetic." Hence I've got to have a fasting blood test on Thursday. Bu**er! Best I make the most of the reunion I'm going to on Friday. Funny old world ain't it? Each side of the shed is a different phase and the third one feeds the 230v circuits that were already installed. Thus the pool and layout are on 1 phase and the other side will feed my workbench area such as the lathe, pillar drill etc. Thanks for the advice. I am very wary of the 3 phase but value the available wattage as many French properties are short of power. Because the shed is a former joinery workshop it has plenty of installed power and also feeds the house. Thus we don't have to unplug the kettle before swjtching on the washer like some nejghbors do. Popular Post Simon G
Evening all, I haven’t posted for about 3 weeks due to being away. I don’t tend to post when on holiday, as insurance companies have been known not to pay out on house theft claims if the absence is broadcast on social media! We had a week at Loch Lomond when the weather was rather iffy, but we managed to get out walking every day, and made the best of the weather. Our initial hope was to get a timeshare exchange for a second week, but nothing cropped up, so instead we got a late deal on a package holiday to Lake Garda in Italy. We had always fancied the Italian Lakes, and had a fantastic week there. the temperatures were around 30 degrees, and we had a hotel room with a Great Lake view and they did good food as well. Since returning from there, I have managed a day guarding on the Ratty, which had a new experience when a small dog decided it wanted to jump off the train. Just as I hit the emergency brakes, the owner managed to haul it back again using its lead. The dog was rather subdued for a while after that, for which I was grateful, as the thing had barked at most of the sheep and cows it had seen along the line, so was being pretty annoying! Loads of gardening to do now, as the weeds have made a serious takeover bid while we were away! 21

RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted June 24, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 24, 2019 Good evening everyone This morning during her Zumba class, Sheila’s ankle gave way and she fell heavily on her wrist. She doesn’t think she’s done any serious damage but it is quite painful and after dinner it was starting to swell a little around the base of her thumb. She was able to continue with her class, but has now decided to take things easy for the next couple of days. Personally I don’t think that’s a bad idea, but I know that she will still try to do what she would normally be do. She’s had cold compresses on for most of the evening and the swelling has gone down quite considerably, along with some of the pain. Also, as the swelling has subsided her hand movement has improved as well as her grip. I’m going to bandage it up for her as we go to bed so that it has some support whilst she’s asleep, touch wood, it’ll be a lot better in the morning. I managed to get to Salford Quays tonight and did 1 mile in just under 45 minutes. The water is definitely getting warmer, but still not warm enough to stop using my wetsuit just yet. Once home, I poured myself a bottle of Doombar, really enjoyed that. Goodnight all 9

Dave, I am not a physician, (and nor have I played on on TV), but my uneducated mind suggests that some kind of minor surgical intervention would have helped long before things got to this point. I hope you can get it sorted soon. If indeed your blood glucose does need monitoring, then whether the toe was a catalyst for that diagnosis or not, it is something that needs to be done either way. Blaming poor antibacterial performance on hypothetical diabetes feels like a cop out to me* when alternative therapies might have been quicker and more effective anyway. * Stated with the full disclosure that I am not a physician and cannot render a professional opinion on this subject. 10

RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted June 24, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 24, 2019 The testing of the toes is a standard thing for diabetics - the purpose being to establish if there has been any loss of feeling in the toe which would be an early indicator of a circulatory problem. Hence at our surgery we get an annual toe tickling as part of Sister Diabolical's check up process. G'night all 7 8
