RMweb Gold Kingzance Posted July 2, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 2, 2019 Nice tale Dave, shows how operational common sense can resolve bureaucratic nightmares if there is a will! Macron’s predecessors may have had kittens but would they have ordered the shooting down of a NATO ally? In some ways, I suppose they may have, given the assistance France gave Argentina 37 years ago. 11

RMweb Gold Popular Post roundhouse Posted July 2, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted July 2, 2019 Spoons breakfast had. just before leaving home the timber or complete the shed cladding due tomorrow was by the door so moved that through the house. Used ticket machines due to queue at ticket windows, to get a travel card valid from 10am. Train used to depart at 10.01 now retime to 09.59 sp ticket no longer valid. Did me a favour as that thrown is a GW Worm. On the 10.11 service to Vic which is far more comfortable. Asked OBS for a ticket from zone 6 to Windsor and Eaton Riverside but she told me it’s in zone 6 so valid on my Tracel are. Looked up tfl map and Feltham is the boundary as I thought, so will try to get a ticket elsewhere but I wonder how many have been fined after being given such information . 1

Out early today for my barnet to be trimmed. Veronique does a lovely scalp massage as part of the process. Then off to the bank and a new skill was learned. Namely how to pay a cheque into a French ATM. Various little tasks to do today but the first is to make some replacement pegs to retain the flyscreen door that one neighbour manages to detach every time she visits. The original pegs were broken by my ham fisted son, when he locked up one summer. That was despite my typed instructions having REMOVE VERY CAREFULLY, typed in the locking up instructions. The mangled things were put carefully in a drawer but someone has 'tidied' that. I suspect that modelli g skills will be deployed to make three replacements in brass. Regards to all. I had a pair of Doc Martens work shoes in the 1960s. They suited me as I have quite broad feet and they comfortable. Around 1972 whilst they were still classed as work footwear I bought a pair of boots which I used for walking for about 15 years. They were the most comfortable boots I ever had and ended up as gardening boots for another five years. It must have been around the 1980s I bought a pair of their Chelsea style for casual use. I still have a pair of the traditional style bought about 20 years ago when we moved to the Peak District which I have kept for inclement weather wear and they are still in excellent condition. In the 1990s when it was a fashion for teenage girls to wear them I bought my daughter a yellow pair which she customised. They all used to paint things like flowers or coloured patterns on them. Probably the forerunners of today's Pride Boots.
Two_sugars
My Granddaughter aged almost 16yrs wears nothing but her 'Doc' ON HER FEET except for school where any type of byuts are not allowed. On one of our Saturday jaunts I once asked if she had any proper shoes. . . . . Only my school shoes was the reply. Of course, at one time, in my yoof . . when my hair was down me back instead of the plug'ole, the acceptable attire to accompany DM's was straight-legged Levi jeans worn at half mast with the bottoms turned up Grandad vest Braces holding your jeans up and a proper suede-head haircut. Oh . . don't forget the football scarf of your choice. I kept my hair long until it started falling out half way through me 40's I thought I'd better put the edit in !!! RMweb Gold Popular Post Tony_S Posted July 2, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted July 2, 2019 Morning all. I didn’t stay up late last night and slept well. I went back to sleep after an early morning cup of tea and was then woken by the phone ringing. My neighbour said her burglar alarm was going off and would I mind checking. Of course I didn’t so I went round. I do know how to stop and set their alarm but not how to cancel a sensor. Anyway I sorted it. My neighbours have had a series of unfortunate incidents recently and I could sense even over the phone that they were anxious. I think the message on the alarm suggested that their conservatory was on fire. It wasn’t, but it was very, very warm in there so I opened a roof vent. Reset everything and all is well now. On the day we set off from Gatwick last week, Aditi couldn’t find her credit card. She rang our neighbour and she came in to check. Aditi then realised it was only 7.30 but Tina (neighbour) didn’t seem to mind. She found it in the the second place Aditi thought it might be. Aditi had bought a rather splendid new handbag and hadn’t transferred everything. Much relief that it wasn’t lost. Tony 18

RMweb Gold Tony_S Posted July 2, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 2, 2019 I tend to wear lightweight walking boots that are waterproof and made with Goretex and other similar products. I have worn a German brand called Meindl over recent years and they require very little breaking in when replaced. They don’t seem t be available at the local boot store now. The ones I have now seem fine but I may replace them before we go away in August. As for proper leather boots I once had a pair of Spanish Airforce surplus flying boots when I first had a motorbike in the early 1970s. Purchased from the classified ads in Motorcycle News. They were not comfortable to walk in especially when pushing a broken down bike. Tony 11 4

The Lurker
Greetings all from LBG where the sun has started to hide behind clouds. Not too much to report here, the countdown to the day Spreadsheet King leaves continues. I am busy trying to learn how the macros he's built in work, so that I can hand them over to his successor, once said successor has been recruited. Half of them are superfluous, but the spreadsheets have been designed in such a way that removing them creates even more problems. The countdown is also on to our grand depart on holiday to the North West of the US. But there are still three weeks of school to get through for the other Lurkers. We drive past Wittering on our way up north to the in-laws. The stop Wittering joke gets wheeled out every time. Mind you, we also see signs for Trumpington and that joke gets wheeled out too.
RMweb Premium Popular Post petethemole Posted July 2, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 2, 2019 Mornin' all from the Gateway to The World. I've just spent about an hour levelling a wobbly paving slab on the patio yard. It's been like it for years but today it had to be done? Mrs mole operates partly by the phases of the Moon, so odd jobs sometimes get prioritised for just before New Moon, or just after, depending on the type of job. I have had various DMs over the years but none at the moment. Mrs mole has many pairs in a range of styles and colours; with an internal wedge they are very comfortable for her disability. When we got together Mrs mole lived in Shepton Mallet where there was a Dr Martens factory shop at the old GWR station, where you could get slight seconds and ends of ranges cheaply. It closed when production moved to China. When I was supervising an MSC employment scheme in the '80s a colleague and I on a work related visit to Chichester Museum passed a signpost for "The Witterings". We instantly adopted it as a private (& non-PC!) nickname for two of the MSC employees, neither of whom ever seemed to stop chatting, so we usually arranged for them to work together. I definitely envisage St. Trinian as a Saint class. I'm sure it has been modelled as such and as a Schools. There must have been a "real" Saint acknowledged by the medieval Church, even if only locally, as there is a St Trinian's church on the Isle of Man: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/St+Trinian's+Church/@54.190215,-4.579883,3a,75y,90t/data=!3m8!1e2!3m6!1sAF1QipPW4yd2m-RiuwO1T61kTyuSei-La_oYNDaVLP83!2e10!3e12!6shttps:%2F%2Flh5.googleusercontent.com%2Fp%2FAF1QipPW4yd2m-RiuwO1T61kTyuSei-La_oYNDaVLP83%3Dw114-h86-k-no!7i4032!8i3024!4m5!3m4!1s0x48639034eb3b97d3:0x879613ed0321f5f5!8m2!3d54.1902145!4d-4.5798826 I ought to get on with listing 1970s Marvel comics on Ebay, but it seems to be nearly lunchtime, which will be followed by my daily shopping/get out of the house trip, so I'll carry on with them tonight. I also have to pack up a Limoges porcelain duck; lots of bubble wrap! Have a good day, Pete 17 1 1

RMweb Gold Popular Post The Stationmaster Posted July 2, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted July 2, 2019 Afternoon all. KZ to note we weren't living here when the StT's film was shot over the other side of the valley as our house was at that time under construction. Not much in the way of Lycra but one of next door's temporary residents emerged from the gate this morning accompanied by a young female personage wearing what Mrs Stationmaster described as 'shorts which were far too short' - I was of course concentrating on driving down the road (and keeping an eye on said young female person in case she stepped off the pavement in front of me). Diesel was purchased at a suitable price - 54.35 litres at a saving of 12.2p per litre compared with what EuroPakgarages are charging here, no wonder they're 'darlings of the city' with the money men in London. The most expensive fuel on our side of Reading is 7p/litre cheaper than their price. the train spotting branch of Waitrose produced only a couple pf passing trains, and not even proper trains but glorified trams although part of a real train was spotted as we headed home. The Class 165 spotting branch of Tesco, visited as the final part of the shopping excursion, produced, to no surprise - a passing Class 165. And although mainly hidden from the road by hedges the new local watch factory construction work appears to be making steady progress - o it will no doubt be p best seen from one of the passing Class 165s as there are only fields of grass between it and the railway. Far more readily seen from the road the (op1um) poppy fields are in full flower so no doubt harvesting will start soon. I cut into the seed pod of one of ours the other day and some thick white liquid came out but they'll be left to go to seed. Alhough the colours vary I do wonder if these came from seeds which had escaped a few miles from the cultivated areas? And another interesting oddity - yersterday I asked at the local garden centre if they sold Bordeaux Mixture. the boloke behind the counter clearly didn't have a clue what I wanted and probably thought I meant wine. However a very helpful lady assistant said that they didn't so I asked if that had something similar? She duly guided to a shelf on which could be found something called 'Copper Mixture'. - which left me wondering what the flippin' difference is (apart from the name) the spuds are duly lined up for a dose of it when the sun hides this evening. Enjot ther rest of your day
Popular Post Ian Abel
Chewsday morning, good morning all. Yesterday some strange happenings with Long Island client. Requested to help with some user issues I discovered they've hired someone with the correct skills to hopefully take over what I've been doing. "Strange" in that she's supposedly been there as part of IT for 3 weeks now but no one has informed me! Whatever, perhaps it will become clearer when I'm there next week! The evening saw a very productive and tasty (we had the charity event dinner to sample ) meeting. Went off very well, the meal, of a delightful salad with raspberry vinaigrette dressing, beef stroganoff and mixed veg, and very tasty brownies, was "approved" by all - YUM It did manage to hiss with rain most all of yesterday, but no local flooding unlike many other areas of the country. 19 and partly sunny this AM, and managed to retrieve a non-waterlogged paper (no thanks to the asswipe who STILL places it miles from the door!!) expecting 30 for a high and cloudy/sunny off and on apparently - guess the part-time summer replacement seaweed twirlersare on duty and can't decide. Tally ho... 17
