tigerburnie
Evening all, quiet day today, bit of the G word mostly in the greenhouse, tomatoes coming in numbers now, sweet corn is almost ready and the Butternut squash are growing nicely, we like them in soups in the autumn and winter with one of my chillies, really like the Hungarian hot wax, not too hot and have a nice flavour, not just heat. Bit more muddling, almost completed the track work, one hinge short to finish the lift section at the door, new loco arrived today too, needs a bit of a run in, but is a cracking wee loco, tender driven, but DCC fitted by someone, it's Woodcock a limited edition Hornby A4 in experimental blue, looks great and will just fit in to the earlier part of my era being muddled. Hope to get some full loops in tomorrow to run the locos in. G'night all.
RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted August 14, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 14, 2019 Good evening everyone The weather here today has been bl00dy awful, grey, cold and miserable with intermittent wetness for most of it. Luckily, during the times that I was outside I managed to dodge the rain and I didn’t get wet once. My trip to ‘The Christie’ this morning was very brief, in fact I was so quick, I didn’t get charged (the first 30 minutes are free) a parking fee in the car park. I had a timed appointment with the phlebotomist, this was 9:30, so I left home at 8:30, arrived at the car park at 9:05 and I was back in the car by 9:32 and home for 9:50! Once I got back home, I had muggertea No2 and then went downstairs to continue working in the cellar. My first task was to mop the cellar floor, as I thought it more likely that I’d get rid of the dust created from the sanding than if I’d just brushed it all up. I then continued to work on the new stair risers and managed to get them all fitted, there are a few small gaps that will need filling, but that won’t take much, then I can remove them all and start painting them. Below is a photo taken just before I knocked off for the day. This afternoon we had Ava, Evie and Max round for tea. Every week they each have a turn at choosing what to eat. Tonight it was Ava’s choice, she picked chicken curry and given the grim and cool weather we’ve had today, it was a good choice. Needless to say, there wasn’t anything left at the end of the meal, they really do have hearty appetites. I’m predominantly right handed, but I can write with both, but it feels more natural to write with my right hand, it being much harder and slower with my left, but I can do it and it can be read. I can use either hand with relative ease when using power and hand tools, but again it feels more natural with my right, but it’s always handy when working in a corner. However, when it comes down to drinking beer, tea, beer, wine, oh, did I mention beer, I can use either hand without any problems. Goodnight all 20
Popular Post andyram
Good evening one and all. It has been a long time since I last posted on these pages - I hope that this post finds you well. There have been many reasons for my absence. Things have been busy with the shop and there has been a certain filming expedition at Fawley Hill as well. For those who intend to watch the program, keep a watch out for the episode on 20th September! The black dog has had spells out of the kennel at times, but I am not going to wallow on the reasons for that at this moment. Last month the parents of Weston School invited me back for the last day of term party. Prior to the party I popped into the school to see the Leavers' off. The welcome was warm from the parents and children alike. One of the Year 6's emerged from the building, sobbing at the thought of leaving. She bypassed her mum and came and gave me a hug. She was a child who had a few difficulties in the classroom but always worked hard. It was nice to see all of the old faces and the party was enjoyable. A lot of the parents said how I looked much better - the change must be having an impact. That evening, Sarah, Amber and I headed up to Whitby for a week long break. It was a wonderful and restful week complete with a couple of days on the NYMR. One day we may, just may, move up there. It is our favourite part of the world. That is a long term plan. In the short term, Sarah and I had an important meeting. We attended the assessment panel to complete our application to become foster parents. The application proved to be a success and a new challenge awaits. Sarah will be the main carer whilst I continue in the shop but reduce the marking workload in time. In the even shorter term, tomorrow sees me complete the 44th solar cycle. It will be celebrated by awaiting the Gas fitter to come and service the boiler, possibly with a trip on the GC in the afternoon. Best wishes Andy ***edited for typos**** Edited August 15, 2019 by andyram 20
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted August 14, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 14, 2019 Evening all from Estuary-Land. Had a most enjoyable time at the garden railway and a lot of cake, tea and sausage rolls were consumed, not all by me I might add. Also present was our hosts 19-year-old grandson who sadly has Downs Syndrome. However he and my friends young son who has learning difficulties seemed to get on well together. Great to see Andyram back in the fold and to wish him luck with becoming a foster parent. 14

It's nice to hear from you, and as Phil says, good luck with foster parenting. A naughty wag would wish you a happy ~3.67* solar cycles anniversary but I would never dream of doing such a thing. * Using 28 days per lunar cycles, it is actually closer to 3.370 solar cycles (factoring an extra quarter day for leap years) but that's hardly relevant. You certainly have put a lot of work into your cellar. The question now is, this close to finishing on the stairs, will you be able to stop? Somehow I'm now imagining one of those high-end garage texture coats for that floor. 13
pH
A day of grandparenting granddaughter and grandson in the heat. Since two-year old grandson discovered running, I don't think he's slowed down to a walk. He is hard to keep up with. Then the dishwasher, with a full load in, started flashing "drain blocked" error codes. Daughter-in-law has taken the kids home, hoping they don't fall asleep on the car ride, and the dishwasher has been cleaned out and is running again. To paraphrase a song associated with a different time of year, its "Past beer o'clock, On a warm and sticky evening" so - cheers! 17

chrisf
Good morning one and all, and welcome back to Andyram I ached all over yesterday and spent much of the day on the bed. It's not much better this morning so when the telephone engineer has been I doubt I will be doing anything strenous. The VW dealership has not been able to do anything about my sticking brakes so I don't know what I will do about them now. At least my Polo has passed it MOT and with less than 28,000 miles on the clock I should jolly well think so. I need to be on full power in just over a week as I am to march through Cardiff for Pride Cymru. Best wishes to all Chris 2

Chris, are you a member of the RAC or the AA? If you are, do they do vehicle inspections? If they do, get them to look at the car and write a report on it, which you can then take to the dealership (assuming they do find a problem). The AA/RAC should stand behind their report. I've done that here, just before a car ran out of warranty, and the dealership dealt with the problems they listed, except for one which they showed was just within allowed limits. 8 2

You know that feeling you get when you lie in bed and you realise you have typed the wrong words....... I wasn’t changing it late last night, but have amended the offending sentence this morning. I knew someone would spot my obvious error. I blame a recent lack of sleep and the word blindness that has been a result of too much staring at a computer screen reading dreadful assignments. 1
