RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted December 19, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted December 19, 2019 Due to my problematic BP The Boss said to me earlier "Perhaps you should consider how much you eat and drink?" I said "When did you qualify as a doctor?" I don't actually eat a huge amount and don't think I drink that much (although probably 2/3 times more than the recommended so called guidelines, which have been gradually reduced over the past few years). I definitely don't get enough exercise but The Knee has had a considerable bearing on that over the past few months. Anyway, I "considered how much" this evening and before dinner had a bottle of Pride and then with the meal (a salad!!!!) a couple of glasses of Merlot. And very enjoyable they were. I might even have a wee dram of something later so Ya Boo and Sucks! I used to drink considerably more before I retired and TBH if I can't enjoy a few pints or glasses of wine I might as well bloody well give up. H. Popular Post AndyID
Oh shoot, oh dear. It's still snowing. Quite heavily in fact. I have been advised that I'm driving MrsID into town for her art association luncheon. I have also been advised that I can entertain myself while I'm waiting for her by obtaining required items at various emporia and the expletive post office 2

RMweb Premium TheQ Posted December 19, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 19, 2019 Evening awl, I'm back from seeing my sailing compatriot he seems well, and has improved further. Tomorrow he's off to Addenbrooks for another check up.. I'm in some pain from my hip, I dont know why, I don't remember doing anything to it, pink pills have been taken along with home made apple crumble, washed down with the evening choccy. It's supposed to be windy out there... It is.. And heavy rain. It isn't.. Yet.. I'm now going to listen to John's music of the day selection, if you hear snoring from the back, it's not because of the music, but the little pink pills..

RMweb Premium jamie92208 Posted December 19, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 19, 2019 After John's post my music is a bit more mundane. Over the past few evenings I've been binge watching the Ken Burns documentary series on Country music and have found it absorbing, educational and fascinating. Just one problem, it's left me with an ear worm. Quite an outstanding track... Anyway Before my binge of the latest two episodes I laboured long and hard in the shed. This was the result. That's 5 of the 9 boards glued and clamped. 4 more to be added tomorrow. The three cross members are cut and have now had their 2 coats of cuprinol. I'm quite pleased with the results so far. In the morning after getting my hair cut I'm off to buy the necessary bolts to secure the ironwork that will come off the old shutter. Good wishes to those that are ailing. Regards to all. RMweb Premium Dave Hunt Posted December 19, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 19, 2019 The day started badly when the lady fang fixer did a detailed inspection of the tooth I broke and came to the conclusion that it needs a crown so several hundred modelling tokens are under threat. Things picked up later and we had a convivial lunch with our friends who came round. After eating, the male half of the sketch and I tried the Welsh happy juice I recently acquired. The verdict? A light, pleasant tipple that whilst not at the top of either of our hit lists is more than acceptable and could well feature in future get togethers. My pal remarked that he has only recently seen it in the local emporia so I told him that its appearance is due to the delivery drivers having at long last found a route that takes them sufficiently far from the Hippodrome to avoid being waylaid by the Muddy Hollow Gang and losing all their consignments. The Christmas tree decorations have of necessity been removed from the lower branches so that the cat doesn't try to play with them to the possible detriment of the tree and its surroundings should it be toppled. I have informed said cat that if he isn't careful the local stock of Davy Crockett hats could be increased by one but neither he nor SWMBO seems to take me seriously. Think I'll go to bed. Goodnight all. Dave 14 3
RMweb Gold Popular Post The Stationmaster Posted December 19, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted December 19, 2019 Evening all, Hope the scan went well Baz but it beats me how you can fall asleep in one of those things with the blokes hitting the outside with a lump hammer at regular intervals - or do they have foam rubber lump hammers up your way? s and havea good time in Switzerland Chris - very pleasant country for the railway enthusiast in my experience. Now to GDB's conundrum I have kept my diabetes number under reasonable control by attention to diet and alcohol non-consumption although with nothing like the rigour practiced by NHN. I suspect the biggest culprit when it comes to blood pressure is bodyweight and that might be where various levels of fuel consumption come into play. My BP definitely improved when I lost weight and I lost weight by what some folk refer to as 'sensible'. (i.e. less enjoyable) eating but not going into madcap dieting mode. Alcohol does play a part in adding calories so it might be better to drink lower calorie stuff - when the doctor did my knee injection the other week he explained that gin has very little value in terms of adding calories and he recommended it to me as a suitable tipple should I be inclined to the drinking of spirits. He also added that tonic water is still good for cramp (from which I suffer far too much) so clearly the ideal medicinal drink for me would be gin & tonic although interestingly about 50 years ago my then GP on diagnosing my rheumatism stated that it was important to drink lots of beer as it was a good treatment for it. So the answer in your case Bob is to find the right Doctor, I wish you success in your quest ;) 16 2
RMweb Premium Popular Post PhilJ W Posted December 19, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 19, 2019 Evening all from Estuary-Land. Earlier this evening I got a call from my niece. At first I feared the worst with regards to my brother but he's still in the land of the living. Unfortunately the infection has now affected his heart and as soon as a bed is available he will be going into Barts to have a replacement heart valve. Its almost certain that he will be in there over Christmas and I discussed with my niece how would we be able to visit him over the holiday. Fortunately I can drive my car in the LEZ without incuring any charges though I wouldn't want to drive in London unless its absolutely neccessary.

RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted December 20, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 20, 2019 Good evening everyone I’ve had quite a productive day, no actual muddling was done, but I have been playing with some electronic bits and pieces. As I mentioned a few days weeks ago, I’ve designed a point control circuit and I’ve run a sample of it on a computer simulator program and it worked ok. I’d also built a mock-up using bread board, real components and a few wires and got it operating a solenoid. So today I decided to actually built a prototype board. I’d already fitted a set of points to a board and added a solenoid. This would normally be fitted below the board, but as it will be in the storage area, which will be under the layout, it surface mounted it instead. I’ve also deliberately used an old secondhand solenoid, one with an integral switch fitted that isn’t quite as free moving as a newer one. My thinking is that if I can get it to work an old solenoid, I shouldn’t have any trouble with a new ones. Once I’d got it all wired up, I applied power it was a partial success, in that there was some movement, but the point didn’t changeover fully. An increase in the supply voltage made a small improvement, but it still didn’t changeover fully. So I stuck an extra capacitor in the circuit and hey presto it worked perfectly every time. The next step is to build the monitoring and feedback circuit and then wire up the point frog so I can monitor its polarity. But that’ll be work for another day. Goodnight all 17

Goodnight all. Dave Nurse nurse I've got a sick cat here, Mooring awl inner Temple Hare, A very good nights sleep 7 hours just interrupted by the odd wake up and turn over. It's chuckinitdarn out there which is why Ben the no chance Collie hasn't moved from his bed. The weather radar shows we are under bright green and yellow rain, with a lot more to come. This means I won't be lying on the ground outside to turn off the stopcock. The bath tap can wait another day. With the hip playing up still, it will be toolbox construction today, a large part of which can be carried out sitting. I wasn't planning to do heavy work anyway, it being MRC muddling time tonight. Now I have everything planned out for the toolbox, first it will be time make a kits of parts for all the drawers I just hope when that's done no one has.. Time to say..... Should have been to spec savers. 15 1

RMweb Premium Popular Post Barry O Posted December 20, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 20, 2019 Ey up! This is not heartburn...this is M&S heartburn... Nice local get together last night.. company great, drink, great, food ..great but far too rich for me... Never mind I shall survive! Moreasons shopping to be done then a trip to Skipton beckons.(I need to get a bottle of Old Monk Rum for a neighbour). As far as the scanner goes, a pair of Active Noise Reduction headphones helps a lot , as does a bit of Classic FM being piped through them. I have always been able to sleep anywhere I can get comfortable. On the leeds to Heathrow BMI shuttle I could get on the plane, get to my seat, strap in and sleep my way through take off, the filght and landing... Let us all go out and kick today into submission! Positive thoughts to all who ail! Baz
RMweb Gold roundhouse Posted December 20, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 20, 2019 (edited) Good morning - its chuckinit here with water coming up out of the manhole cover at the junction of our road and the main road. Trains going up creek with no trians through Haywards Heath due to flooding but luckily my other halfs train is one of the few running on time although she says its crowded. Lets hope she can get home OK after earlier events this week. Even the M23 around Crawley is shut due to flooding so good luck anyone trying to get to Gatwick from the coast. A friend is dropping some smaller decals round for his On30 locos that I am wokring on as the ones he gave me are way too large. Meanwhile I have buildings to work on once I have had a cup of tea. RMweb Gold grandadbob Posted December 20, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 20, 2019 Good morning all, It has been, is and will be raining for a while. Off to Steve's flat for a couple of hours shortly as we're assisting with some domestic stuff this morning. My last HbA1c 4 months ago was 42 so in the right direction. I'm still eating and drinking the same things and at the same sort of level as I was then but not getting as much exercise which is probably why my weight has crept up by about half a stone. Strangely enough I only weigh a coupe of pounds more than when I was fully fit and playing rugby 40 odd years ago, however I had a fair amount of muscle then and no flab. Things have changed somewhat. Have a good one, Bob. 14
RMweb Gold Popular Post Kingzance Posted December 20, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted December 20, 2019 Good morning from a rather wet NEHerts. First e-mail of the morning is a repeat of recent ones advising the golf course is flooded. Last night was the final Old Boys Night Out (hence the OBNO acronym for our friends divided by a common language) of this year at a foodie pub in a village called Shuttlanger, and rather good it was too. Good company, good food, good wine (but only one glass for me as I was responsible for my own transport) and a certain freedom from fear of the wrath of partners but of course a measure of indigestion as a minor penance. Today will require a visit to the food emporium that is the choice of the middle class and Hyacinth Buckets. SWMBO has offered to make mince pies (which are rather good in the pastry department and even better when they contain my home-made filling he said, blowing his own trumpet) for a gathering of daughter’s friends this evening at which we are to attend but your humble scribe expects to be dressed in his full buttler-ing regalia. I am also no further forward in resolving the car park extortion racket perpetrated on my on Wednesday, nor in locating where the missing bottle of overpriced smelly water perfume that was to be SWMBOs main present has gone. Thanks to those who reminded me of the loss of the Solomon Browne yesterday, brave men one and all. Thankfully today’s RNLI fleet are better at surviving the worst of weather than the old Watsons but one ignores the sea at one’s peril. Best to all, prace Demi to misquote Baz...
