Popular Post Sir TophamHatt
Just like to say that I really love this thread. Reading what I consider "general news" from other members is a great relief from the mundane job I have, where I have considerable amounts of time to waste. Thank you all! 21 2
RMweb Gold Popular Post roundhouse Posted January 9, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 9, 2020 Good morning. Very breezy overnight which kept us awake in the early hours. Other halfs train delayed due to over running engineering works at Gatwick then signalling problmes near London Bridge. All her trains have been late this year so far. Been in shed to do a bit more weathering. Hopefully finish the two locos and then drop them round to the owner tomorrow on my way back from Mums. More layout wiring to do today once the package from Squires arrives. 20
RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted January 9, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 9, 2020 (edited) Morning all. Here we have smart meters. I just wish I could get Beth to look at the results. She's addicted to using the tumble dryer... we also have cold calls. There is a huge national scheme to insulate houses for €1. We must get about 6 or more per day. Usually we can tell from the number but some are now using spoofing and they show up as local calls and even UK mobiles. Anyway more work on the shutters today then off to the hospital after lunch to act as interpreter for Beth when she sees the dietician. I went last night and the Dr and nurse knew I was coming so called in to see Beth. Lots of things got sorted and she was in a better mood when I left. I even had an hour on the station before I went to the Hospital and was rewarded with a double headed freight train. Unfortunately my Galaxy phone has stored the photos in some sort of unsuppirted format so I can't post a shot. On the way home I didn't pass another car in yhe last 10 miles. I did however nearly have a close encou ter with 3 wild boar who chose to trot across the road in front of me. The first time I've seen any since we moved over here. Good to see Andyram on board again. Regards to all. Jamie Edited January 9, 2020 by jamie92208 20 1

RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted January 9, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 9, 2020 Good morning everyone Something else I should have added to my comments about blood sugar and diets, is that it very important to eat regularly, missing or skipping meals isn’t a good idea. As someone mentioned, the body is very clever and skipping meals just makes it think there’s a famine and so stores food for later. Dull and grey at the moment, with a slight possibility of rain. Once Sheila has left for her Zumba class, I’ll once again head down to the cellar to start measuring up and marking out the desk top pieces so that they can be fitted to the desk. I’ll also need to make a couple of support brackets for the corner too. I hope the weather holds, as I plan to do all the cutting outside. RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted January 9, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 9, 2020 (edited) Moorning Awl, Inner Temple Hare, 1060/662. A poor nights sleep of 5 hours , with lots of wake ups and finds a more comfortable position.. What was I thinking about when awake? no not toolboxes or the boat but.... Burns Night or to be more precise our sailing clubs Burns night dinner, which for a change actually is on the anniversary of his birthday 25th January 1759, 261 years , or 3132 months since his birth. Why do I know such things., because I've been given the honour of lumbered with giving the Burns Address.. I've never given a speech before in public, so this is likely to be a disaster. The last few addresses have concentrated on him having 14 children by 6 different mothers plus of course his poetry.. So I've been looking for a new "angle" on him, I have 19 Days ish to write a 3 minute speech by which time it will be the 95328th day since the birth of Robert. I note some one up there, on posts above posted some poetry, or tried too, carefull now or I'll start quoting, from you know who.. Time too, do a lot of research, while waiting for shunts to settle Edited January 9, 2020 by TheQ 15

Popular Post 5 C
Morning all. The big question for today is will this be my last day of freedom before returning to work after nearly two years of rest? A nice, local, five month contract accidentally found me just before Christmas and the recruiter gave me a start date of of this Monday. Late yesterday I had a message from my new team saying they were expecting me tomorrow (Friday). It's not really a problem as I'm ready to go and had no plans for Friday anyway. Just in case I don't get a Friday, on Saturday I shall be visiting the St.Evenage show and hope to finalise arrangements to meet up with a friend there. We were thinking about lunch outside the venue. Does anyone have recommendations? I know the Leisure Park opposite the venue has all the usual chain restaurant suspects and the old town is about 15minutes walk away, which is probably more our style. 20

The conversation morning meeting for the French Circle seems to have been moved to our house. I asked if there was anything I could do and my job was to let people in. I expect I shall be taking people to the station later. I had a letter inviting me to attend a pre angiogram test next week. I shall be going! RMweb Premium Popular Post PhilJ W Posted January 9, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 9, 2020 Morning all from Estuary-Land. Good news this morning about my brother, he has been deemed fit enough to be moved from Barts to his local hospital (Queens, Romford). He must be getting better as my S-i-L tells me he's moaning about all and everything. Q, for your Burns night speech what about using the Cutty Sark connection, (Tam O'Shanter). That also has a nautical connection for the yachting types as well. You could do worse than recite the poem. The lurgi is still with me but retreating slowly and I'm sorry to hear that Chris is also now afflicted with it. Thats it for now, be back later. 7 1
RMweb Gold Popular Post Kingzance Posted January 9, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 9, 2020 Morning, This new-build house has an electricity meter that can use a smart style meter. It has a gas supply that I don't think does. My energy supplier doesn't use smart meters so I submit regular meter readings to ensure neither they accumulate too many of my modelling tokens nor that I get any frights. Consumers' bills have been escalated for the last seven years I believe to pay for equipping all properties with smart meters and yes, 1st generation meters only communicate with the company that supplied them and those companies are not replacing those meters and are still installing them! As for The campaign for a Smarter Britain, what an absolute waste of taxes. Anyway, a not too frantic day is planned for the rest of today. I hope to stroll up the the Sports Club and do a little measuring of the internal dimensions of the old facilities during daylight hours, something that will serve no useful purpose but seems to be a hoop that the redevelopment team must jump through. The iPad on which I made an offer, a good bit below the asking price, will be mine at the weekend but I shan't be in a position to transfer my details until Monday at a guess due to "other pressures". If I get time off for good behaviour from the boss, I may head down to the photography club in the nearby town this evening and see what they are about. Although only a few miles from Stevie Nidge, I know nothing of its eateries around the station area, other than being forced to endure Mackeedees with the grandkids. Time to investigate if there is an over-the-counter source of anti-grumpiness tablets..... I'm not too mean to refuse to buy them if available. 7
RMweb Premium Popular Post Gwiwer Posted January 9, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 9, 2020 Greetings from the newly-created village of Great Lunchtimes. Where sustenance abounds and there is plenty of time to enjoy same. There has been wind today. Of the external and noticeably cold variety. It was also somewhat wet overnight. Those things have resulted in a significant rise in foot pain but the swelling continues to reduce. SWMBO was awake early this morning and conducted an inspection declaring it to be "almost normal". If only. Comfort has improved post-attendance at the House of Fun because I can aim the fan-heater right over the affected area and keep it toasty. Speaking of toastie - I'm off to make one. Cheese and ham with some tomato chutney on the side. And a muggertee. Back later. 2

Popular Post Ian Abel
BIN day/POETF (heading to JFK to return home, yay!) - BINs will be courtesy the Mrs. More of the same, i.e NOTHING, from the lack-of-support line <yawn>. So yesterday just a continuation of the same nominally boring travails. Another nice dinner with Jemma last night, then up o-crack-sparrow to get her to JFK for a 7AM "show". I'll be heading there later for the homeward flight and by all accounts the weather should be reasonable enough for JFK to NOT be a flustercuck! However, they're totally capable of manufacturing one out of thin air, so fingers crossed as always The chariot of the week, a Cadillac XTS; seems nice enough, but not "startling" considering how much they hype the things, not really that different than most all the late model cars I get. The ONE thing is the dashboard/console UI (user interface), from my personal opinion it's far less user friendly than I expected and some aspects are totally non-intuitive, which surprised me. Far worse than several of the other vehicles I've had recently, some are excellent and this is definitely second class... -4 and sunny taking Jemma to JFK, supposed to reach 2 and remain sunny with no precip. all day. RMweb Gold Popular Post Shedman5 Posted January 9, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 9, 2020 Afternoon, Back from my trip to London to see my Grandson born on Monday, he is doing fine as are Mum and Dad so all is well. First trip on Avanti West Coast, no problems either way, we treated ourselves to first class both ways and I have to say the food served was of a better quality than Virgin, long may trouble free trips with them continue as we will be using them frequently over the forthcoming months! Think I might arrange it so I can go to Ally Pally at the same time as a visit to the grandson. Smart Meters, no thanks, its the tariff and daily charge which count, my modelling tokens have been increased by switching, currently with Octopus and cannot fault them at all. New DCC controller has arrived so off to set that up and get familiar with it. All in all a good week so far!! Enjoy the day Alan
