Morning All,

 

We have a reasonably bright morning in this part of the world.  It's chilly, but last night's snow has almost gone.  It started snowing at around four, and continued until around eight.  It did lay, but it quickly melted once it actually stopped snowing.

 

Time for a coffee!

I met one of them this morning, apart from driving around in the dark with no lights on at all, he then passed me to drive through the red traffic lights...

Another cockwomble is Dell, who proceeded to update the computer this morning, and then reboot, with absolutely no warning it would do so..

 

A poor nights sleep of 5 hours then half an hour  … not enough,,,

Ben the cuddly Border collie unusually decided to join me on the sofa this morning, he didn't want out though...

 

Red sky in the Morning Farmers warning, very red out there as I arrived at work, and the radio womble said gale force 8 later... I'm guessing that's Jorge approaching..

 

Time I think to check the company spam, yesterdays included an extended list of no fly countries for company business..

Good morning one and all

 

It was a good day yesterday except for the snow.  It had almost gone from Bedford by the time I set off for Stevenage but I caught up with it on the A1.  Fortunately it did not last long there either.  It and the rain into which it transmuted combined to remove much of the weathering from the nominally white Polo.  The present jalopy has developed an intermittent fault in the unnecessary complication that is the device which beeps distractingly when I am trying to park.  I see no need to trouble the dealership with it just yet.

 

For those who love to hate 'Spoons, we were served well yesterday.  The aperitif to dinner was a pint of Purple Moose Madog's Ale.  PP enjoyed his lasagne and I made short work of the manager's special, battered cod and the trimmings.  There was even a quite full bottle of ketchup which isn't quite so full now.  In the shed where the l*y**t lives there was s*ld*rIng and this time I managed not to reduce the work to its component parts by injudicious use of the hotrod.  Some puzzling took place with the pieces of a pl*st*c k*t for which more hands will be required to hold the bits together than the good Lord gave us.   This particular m*d*l isn't even for me but for a friend but it does enable me to try out a few things ahead of the day when I make something like it for me.  This morning, for once, the car is very close to the house, a miracle having occurred late last night when I returned.  As soon as I am replete with breakfast I will unload it and clutter up my hall with assorted toolboxes.

 

One job that must be done soon is to phone one of the comics to which I subscribe.  The arrival of the subscription renewal notice is the perfect opportunity to say goodbye.  Of late there is little in that publication that I would wish to keep for posterity.  In due course I will go through the back issues and fill the recycling bin.  It will be a wrench but in a way it will be revenge.  In those far-off days when I was keen to share my photographs with the world at large I submitted a slide for publication.  It disappeared somewhere in the editorial office.  One day I boiled over with rage and drove to the office.  There I sat and refused to move until some effort had been made to find the missing slide.  The only trace of it turned out to be the stamped addressed envelope that I had enclosed with my submission.  I have never sent a pic to a magazine since then.  So much for a glittering career as a photographer.

Good moaning all from the boring borough. Crabtree is taking the day off. 

 

Building works next door took a turn for the worse yesterday. Seems the new steel structure for the loft conversion was a tad too long. Crash bang, and a cloud of mortar dust emanating from the loft hatch. They managed to break through the party wall right at the roof line. The builder's project manager rushed over. Everything is safe but today will see a parade of various people visit the loft. Building control from the boring borough is due around 9. The manager and structural engineer who designed the metal work will be around before lunch. The upshot is they will have to completely remove the metal, which is already cemented in place, cut it down and rebuild a section of party wall. That means I'm going to have to clear out a lot of carp from the loft as they will need access to both sides. Buqqer. 

 

On the topic of builders, mine has yet to cough up his monthly payment for Feb. Looks like a call to the High Court Enforcement Officer on Monday to say he has failed to meet his ordered repayment obligation. They'll send him a nastygram and charge him £120 for the privilege. Failing that a personal visit (£300), then full on enforcement for the outstanding balance. What an asshat. 

 

update: I can hear the project manager screaming at the builders outside. I have a feeling someone is getting a P45 today. 

 

Tomorrow is beer mile with friends. That should compensate for the week du merde somewhat. 

 

Coffee is calling, only 2 hours of cockwomble meetings today. TFIF Enjoy the day.

My Dell desktop does that quite frequently.  It still runs on Win 7, and with all the Windows bloatware, it is very slow in booting too.  Registry cleaning helps, but not much.

 

Despite my fears last night about the effects of the steroids, I actually managed a reasonable night’s sleep.

 

The wind is getting up again as Storm Jorge approaches.  Looks like another weekend of unmitigated fun!

Morning all from Estuary-Land. ChrisF's comment about none return of photographs rang a bell. Many years ago I too submitted a photograph to a magazine together with an sae for its return, needless to say it was never returned. Then much to my annoyance they published my photograph again a few years ago. I contacted the then editor and he informed me that they only had an electronic version of the photo on file and was looking into it for me. The editor then suddenly passed away and thats where it ended. The magazine in question has had several changes of editor and at least one change of publisher since I submitted the photo so I imagine it is now lost.

KZ wears a bit of a smug mug (an “in” photo joke) this morning as his two entries into the photographic panel competition finished in the top quartile with the one related to unmentionables being placed 11th but the saxophones managed a perfect 10, even if there were three tens more perfect than mine! Given this is only the second photographic competition I have ever entered and that there are some very good people in the Hitchin club, I am, as the ardent follower of steam powered items exclaimed, “chuffed” and worship the ground that the eminently qualified judge walks upon. Well, I would, wouldn’t I.

 

The weather here is carp, wet, dull and not inspiring at all. The lawn could do with a trim but it’s too wet. A bush could do with the same but we are not talking bikini lines here, despite what you may have imagined on first reading that. A visit to that paradise of food retailing partners will take place after SWMBO has had her Barnet done, no doubt at the cost of a decent sound decoder but heh, ho - I am too timid to bring that up. If the garage is warm enough, I may sally forth and bury myself under some horizontal pieces of 9mm plywood that are braced by 12mm side and cross members. I have a gremlin to find and finally slay. 

 

Be good or be careful (yes GDB) and best wishes to all celebrating something - even if that is just getting past the gatekeepers of officialdom!

Well yesterday’s sunshine didn’t last long as it’s now back to some wet falling down from the sky. Breakfast has been consumed and shortly I’ll set off to complete the shopping that is the Trafford Centre Grand Prix, as I’m going alone, it shouldn’t take long. On my way home I’ll call in at the butchers and pick up the weekly meat rations and hopefully a pastie for dinner. After that I’m not sure what’s on the agenda last week’s proposed visit to Waitrose was cancelled and was muted for this afternoon, but I suspect Sheila will postpone again, but I’m sure I’ll find something to do if it is.

Back from a really nice birthday breakfast. Joe has done extremely well and received many, many  tokens and presents for his birthday. One present not quite so good was the visit to watch Arsenal with his Dad Steve last night where they managed to lose in the last minute of extra time. Ooops.

Steve did suggest that as Joe only had to go to school for a couple of periods  this morning he might want to take him and me to the pub at lunchtime to buy us a pint now he's legally able to do so. This idea was vetoed by his Mum and Nan. Never mind, there's plenty of time to do that.

We will be going back later this afternoon when multiple pints will be on the agenda.

Having watched a documentary  about the ammunition handling arrangements  on the new QE class carriers they seem to have quite an advanced railway system on board.

 

Anyway we are back from The Danglies earler than expected. We were finished at the hospital 20 minutes before the appointment time.  Then a coffee and some shopping.  Fresh live scallops were bought and will be consumed at lunchtime.  We did let the gent ar the fish stall do the cleaning for us.

Been awake between 03:30 - 05:30, at work from 07:00 and still busy.

Wet and windy

I really got off on one this morning the bin lorry arrived and they took 6 bins out from the bin area to empty, deep joy.

Not much happening today my Babe will be here later for a TV film and popcorn. 

Better get on there's a flat that needs cleaning a bomb has hit the place with the new boxed kitchen stacked everywhere.

Greetings all from LBG where the rain has set in for the day.

 

Last night's beer and curry went down well, though no doubt I will be informed how much I snored and how much I stank of curry later. It's an occupational hazard.

 

We didn't see the Tillamook naval station, or the cheese factory, on  our trip down the Oregon coast, but we did turn off 101 to do the Three Capes Scenic route - advertised as a loop but actually part closed off due to subsidence, rock falls.

Well, after ordering my new printer from that nice Mr. Lewis at 3pm yesterday, promising delivery in 7 days, it turned up on my doorstep at 09-45 this morning

Unboxed, set up and playing started.

As I have mentioned before I really don’t mind the adverts. However earlier in the day Aditi and I had a conversation about hair round the vacuum cleaner brush. We had the conversation while I had my iPad in my hand. 
Then this ad appeared.

Afternoon, Very wet and windy outside, non stop rain all morning and still throwing  it down.

 

Food supplies obtained this morning,  my 8 week old grandson and his parents are arriving tomorrow for a four day stay but we seem to have purchased enough supplies for 10 days at least!

 

I have endured a clean up of the house of epic proportions just short of re decorating every room! Things are not in the same place anymore it seems. Thankfully it has not included the shed!

 

Like Tony I am not fussed over adverts on here, yet I do wonder how the system works , no interest in buying a boat and never expressed one yet had an ad the other day for ship supplies? 

Oh well as I dare not touch anything indoors its off to the shed to make a mess!

Finally recovering from Glasgow and a customer visit to the West Midlands the day after....

 

Shedman Alan and BoD Warren visited at Glasgow - good to put faces to names.

 

It was a busy weekend for the most part - I believe numbers were down a little due to the weather.

 

As I have 2 days off - Thurs/Fri, I stupidly volunteered to cover part of a night shift at wife's work on Wednesday due to a staff member not turning in. (Many, many brownie points were earned though!)

Due to it being a late stand-in, I am excused any of the night shift jobs and just have to "be there" - even being allowed to snooze in the main lounge area. Although this is not easily accomplished as you're always ready for something to happen - although it rarely does.

My shift was midnight-5am, when Mrs NB woke me up as she started her breakfast shift 90 mins earlier than normal, allowing me to go home - less than 5 minutes away.

A much needed lie-in wasn't on the cards as three weeks without golf took preference with the Seniors "round-up" on a very wet underfoot,  mostly sunny, but quite chilly breeze ready to cool when the sun dipped between the clouds. My golf was good under the circumstances [*], but our team ended up third and out of the prize money, losing on a card playoff.

 

The lie-in was today  - 11am! 

Domestic tasks have been undertaken, including filling 3 bags for the charity shop, Some m*delling may now be accomplished with a view to having the new stock ready for Ally Pally,

 

I have however, to report that I have joined the GDB club at Glasgow show,

I had an argument with a pair of folding stepladders and lost.

 

The cut was hastily cleaned and bandaged up and later, when I could fully dress the wound.

 

 

[*] As mentioned above, it has already healed sufficiently to hold a golf club.......

 

No need for POETS today, but it's back to work the weekend.
