Wikipedia - "two, six, heave" Quote People in the square rigged sailing community have proposed the idea that it could be a shortening of the French “tout de suite”, often anglicised colloquially to "toot sweet", which means 'immediately'. There's also been conjecture that it was originally the French, "toutes six houle" (all six heave) but what "six" is unclear as there's no evidence it was orders to a gun crew. Popular Post AndyB
A while back there was mention of Millvina Dean? Remembered at So'ton with a patch of grass by the ring road. Proof perhaps that worse things don't always happen at sea. 23 1
AndyB
So here's one for Ian (RH). I happened to be in Seaton the other evening and was taken to a micro pub, The Hat, located in a former butcher's shop. Nice beer and a convivial drinking establishment.

Richard, Considering that Jill's birthday is March 7th, that I am addicted to such luxuries as sleeping indoors, would like my g**lies to remain in place at the size they are now, and am fairly sure that divorce lawyers are expensive, I will not be at Kettering. Jill may only be 5ft 3 in contrast to my 6ft 3 but then Spitfires were a lot smaller than Ju 52s and I know which one I'd back in a scrap. Chicken, me?? RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted March 2, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 2, 2020 Good evening everyone Well I thought I’d sorted the problem with the washing machine, as the first 2 loads that Sheila did there wasn’t a leak. However, when she came to do a 3rd wash load it leaked again. Tomorrow I’ll drag the machine out from under the worktop and have a look to see if a hose is lose or leaking. But I have been able to get on in the cellar, the shelving has been secured to the walls and I’ve started to transfer items from the old shelving in the large cellar room to the new shelving. I must admit that it’s been quite nice to get on with some heavier work instead of sitting at the dining room table, although I did enjoy that. Ian A, happy birthday Goodnight all 18

That might be worth making a return visit. IIRC the last time that I was in Seaton, I wasn't old enough to drive. We have passed through Seaton Junction many a time. Wouldn't it be good if the line either reopened or the tram reached the junction and that station reopened but I very much doubt that will ever happen.

Popular Post chrisf
Good morning one and all I attempted some tidying yesterday. It is not something that I find easy but it must be done. One of the points of keeping back numbers of magazines is to have them handy should the need arise to consult them. In an ideal world this would be supplemented by a full and comprehensive index of articles and photographs but you and I know that the world is far from ideal. The first objective was achieved yesterday, this being to locating a missing issue of a non-railway magazine that has now been reunited with its kin. Inevitably this revealed gaps in the sequence of comics dealing with railway subjects. I know that I have them but I do not know where they are. When they turn up, as turn up they surely will, they will be in places where I never imagined that they would be in a month of Sundays. Where might two consecutive issues of MRJ be if they are not in the bookcase built specially to house them? It is going to be a long uphill struggle, since by common consent I am one of the untidiest men on the planet. This is where you tell me that I should get out more. So I should, but the Government may have other ideas thanks to the virus named after a fizzy drink. We shall see what the battle plan says later today. As you know, I welcome every opportunity to meet fellow RMwebbers. I was sorry to learn that circumstances have got in the way of Kingzance making the pilgrimage to Ally Pally. It is not my favourite show but the trek up the hill is usually worthwhile given who and what one sees. The Palm Court is a favourite spot for ERs to hide in plain sight and to put the world to rights over an overpriced pint. It is for others to convene this gathering but it is a good way of reducing the risk of being trampled underfoot, especially on the Saturday. . Best wishes to all Chris
RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted March 3, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 3, 2020 Morning all from a place where it isn't actually raining at the monent though we are told that more is en route. Various things got done yesterday and this morning I plan to refit the ironwork to the dining room shutters. In the afternoon I even got chance and inclination to put paint onto some things with wheels. They now need transfers. Not a lot else to report at the moment so I will wish you all a safe day/night wherever you are. Jamie
RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted March 3, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 3, 2020 Mooring Awl, Inner Temple Hare, 1006/629, 5 hours sleep and then.. an occasional short doze.. Not enough sleep... I bought a book which was waiting for me when I got home... No not about parallel bits of metal but "How to design a boat" .. A bit late now, but for £2.85 delivered (secondhand) I couldn't resist.. A scan through has shown several things I should have done when Designing Blue Moon, But I didn't and it's come out correct according to the figures.. This book is based around several examples, the main one of which is a 20ft open day sailing boat.. Or roughly what I've based my 16ft version on.. That's handy because the examples are a good cross reference.. I've noticed the book uses some mathematics formulas which are slightly different to others I've seen, to acheive the same result. So I'm using those to cross check my previous work.. The first of which is already showing reasonable results.. Driving In today , totally clear once I'd scraped the ice off. it's so light I could have not used any headlamps.. We were supposed to have a visit of the New American managers, today, but this was cancelled yesterday, and todays campany spam informs us that all our company international travel is banned until further notice.. In about 5 minutes last nights overnight run will have finished then it will be.. Time to continue calibration just resistance left to do.. 18

RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted March 3, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 3, 2020 (edited) Good morning all, I appear to have missed Ian A's birthday so Many Happy Returns to that ab(e)lest of men! Some frost here but the sun is shining. Showers are forecast along with some sunny spells. Son Steve popped in last night to assist with finishing setting up my new phone. Good job he did because he's showed me things on it I wouldn't have had a clue about.. and some I still don't! This morning I'm off to Nicki's to construct Gemma's new desk as apparently SiL Steve is so busy he won't be able to do it until the weekend and she wants to use it before then for homework and revision etc. Joe & Gem will be here after school as usual for a couple of hours. Yesterday I took a momentous decision and cancelled the new toy that I was lucky enough to be allocated. I was rather concerned about the problems that some people appear to be having with theirs and decided that it was too small for me to fiddle about with.. According to the very nice man at the shop I will have made someone else very happy. Have a good one, Bob. We aim to be going just after schoolchild “dropping off “ time. I must remember to put my fatty snack in my rucksack (tiny, not one of those that to invade countries or visit railway exhibitions). RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted March 3, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 3, 2020 Good morning everyone Sell the sunshine didn’t last long, it’s raining this morning, this is typical as I’m shortly off for a short walk to the dentist for a check up! When I return I’ll have some breakfast before heading off to complete the Sainsbury’s Grand Prix. After that I will have a proper look at the washing machine, which might take some time. Hopefully this will all be done by dinner and after dinner I might do a bit more electronic kit building, as it won’t be worth starting anything in the cellar. Enjoy the day, back later.
