Morning all.

I think we are having a “sunny spell” at the moment. I am not doing much today. Aditi is off to Rochford for a lecture about “a Spanish artist”. She hasn’t had time to read the programme yet and can’t remember who it is. All will be revealed. She is having lunch with a friend afterwards and then going to Waitrose. She can report back then whether or not the shelves are bare. 
I too am not sure what words from Johnny Cash Mick would have used “hotter than a pepper sprout” perhaps?

Morning all, looks like a fine and calm day here, which certainly makes a change.  Some outside jobs will be done with a bit of luck.  One of those is my ancient shed, which appears to have rotten beyond normal repair in some places.  I may just see if an abnormal repair is possible, else I will need to purchase a new one.

 

Another job is to dig up some carrots and artichokes as I made some carrot and artichoke soup at the weekend and it was really rather good, so more is needed!

Morning all from Estuary-Land. ChrisF's mentioning of the LCGB talks made me think of the similar talks we have at our SEERS meetings. We even have some of the same guest speakers though our guest speaker next week is more local, railway author Peter Kay talking about our local line the LT&SR. Last year we had a very interesting talk from Simon Kohlner about the ups and downs of Hornby over the last few years. I haven't noticed many discussions going on even when one of our own members are giving a talk.

Meanwhile in Australia is seems the nation has run out of toilet paper if antisocial media memes are to be believed.  There has certainly been a large amount of panic buying ahead of a potential epidemic of Corona Virus.

 

But why toilet paper????? Of all the things COVID-19 does, which apparently isn't that many anyway, one thing it does NOT do is accelerate the lower alimentary canal

It would be 7% of our allowed error,

 A 1.6 PPM error would be a fail, that would be 0.9999952mV ish

 I would then Have to Investigate Why it failed and discuss with the Boss whether anything calibrated by that system would have to be recalled from the customer for recalibration..

Greetings all from LBG, where it is thinking about raining.

 

I never really think of the Oval as Sidcup. I have lived there nearly more than 20 years, and only been through it a handful of occasions. I guess that comes from living on the other side of the railway near the High Street and before that half way to Foots Cray. And spending most of my time commuting.

 

We didn't visit too many brewhouses or pubs on our West Coast tour. We had a nice time in a place in Seattle when we saw my brother in law and his family (including 6 month old). He and I drank a flight of thirds before picking our faves and settling on those. I also had good beer in Fort Bragg (California) at a place that brewed their own beer. In both cases, excellent food accompanied the beers. I can't remember the Seattle place, but the Fort Bragg one was the North Coast Brewery.

 

Baz, does the fox & Newt on Burley Road still brew its own beers? Old Willow was an excellent pint 30+ years ago, and they used to get guest pints in too, which is where I had my first ever Timmy Taylors' beers; Landlord, Ram Jam, and the long lost Porter, which was the best of the lot.

HUMP day and good morning to all...

 

Yesterday, major report changes in the offing, THEN an abrupt halt called as the CFO/staff determined/realized they'd not thought it all through - and need to step back and do some more "planning" - there's a novel idea!

In other client news, one of the finance staff got a new PC, and the IT staff (given the explanation that follows I'm not sure exactly what "IT" means in this case, maybe Incompetent Twats!) were unable to understand and install an ODBC driver and SQL Developer tool and database connection java applet, even WITH the document I created/printed for them as they were initially "unsure", so they asked ME to do it for them!!!

I Swear they should pay me one IT position salary while I'm here in addition to our normal fees...

 

On to the drive in, an acknowledgement that;

ii) There are a lot of stupid people in the world, who probably don't deserve any sympathy for what they do

ii) The Darwin Awards have a local contestant, not "won" the prize yet, but I'd guess it won't be long

The client location is about 300yds from a Long Island RR grade crossing with half barriers, two tracks and I'd estimate the local section speed is about 50mph, road speed limit is 30mph. From about 1/4 mile out the barriers were descending and lights flashing, a Honda sedan in front of me, but about 5 cars back from the lead vehicle stopped at the crossing, moves to the inside of the two lanes, apparently "looks" to see what the other side looks like, then veers to the outside of the traffic into the opposing lanes, and dutifully drives around everyone, zig-zags around the half-barriers and is on his/her way.

About 8 seconds later the train crosses, horn blaring.

Obviously "they" made it, but had they NOT I think I'd have been VERY late getting in here as everyone at the crossing would be witnesses etc.

 

5 and not quite top down weather driving in this morning, supposed to reach 11 later.

Afternoon,  Its been good here today weather wise so a garden tidy up took place. One major job was to replace the poly tunnel as the recent gales managed to play havoc ripping it in several places. So the old one was taken off and a replacement  was fitted. Brownie points galore and a very satisfied other half. Me just knackered !

 

A nice glass or two of red will be consumed later on I think!

To be slightly fair to Phil’s council, Spring seems quite early this year. Our plants are about a month ahead of where they would have been a couple of years ago.  Birds have been building nests which of course if present should have prevented any planned pruning happening.

One reason why we sought - and received - permission to manage the block gardening was that the landlord's handyman isn't that handy with such things.  He cannot cut a straight line on the hedge, he cannot mow grass evenly and he strimmed all the flower beds back to bare earth last year resulting on nothing but weeds growing.  He also cut the camellia outside our back door so hard that all the buds have gone except for one.  In other years that has been a swathe of red flowers before now.  

 

He retains all the power-tool jobs as the landlord cannot indemnify us for such things.  But at least the flower beds will look much better this year than last.  

 

The Hill of Strawberries is enjoying an afternoon of liquid sunshine.  Your correspondent has not enjoyed the necessary trip to the Hop Tisshuns to collect new goggles nor the equally essential diversion via the Wait Rose to re-supply the kitchen.  All is done now. The outer layers are drying.  It is time to water the insides.  Red Laughing Water is always in stock here

Evening all,

 

The all-day rain is still raining, and definitely not a patch on an all day breakfast.  I believe birthday greetings to Mrs NB are in order.

 

Continuing the talk about pubs back in the late 1960s there was a country pub a few miles from here which still had a bar parlour and a half cellar.  So in you went and, if lucky, you got a seat on the settee at which juncture mine host or hostess would come over and ask what you wanted then head off down a couple of steps into the half cellar to return with your favoured tipple.   At that time I was a draught beer drinker and they undoubtedly served one of the best pints for miles around as the half cellar had the ideal temperature conditions for storage and of course the beer came straight out of the wood - which always made a tremendous difference.  i've just looked them up on the web and oh dear it's gone the way of all trendy things - complete with a polished wood floor that bears no resemblance to the original floor plus weird trendy menu things for both drinks and food - ugh!

 

As for the oiling of bed springs a chap I used to work with in the South Wales valleys had a chap a few doors along from him who could be seen outside every couple of weeks or so with the bed base oiling the springs, apparently that bloke had quite a large family.  I wonder where the cartoonist got the idea - was he Welsh from the Rhondda Valley?

 

A Tesco visit to buy the 'paper (I go there because you can actually park, unlike most of the town centre) revealed an obvious run on cough mixtures, various,  with gaps on a number of shelves.  Most other shelf areas looked ok but i didn't pass through the aisles where tinned and frozen foods live.  Mrs Stationmaster returned from the coiffurist to report that the business had had 9 cancellations of today's appointments by 13.00 - so presumably the fact that the business is run by a couple of Italians has invoked the same sort of logic that reduced sales of a certain weak lager and has hit business in Chinese restaurants.  Some people really are downright stupid!

 

In the meanwhile the Good Doctor has arrived today safely in Hamburg for a short holiday - no health checks at the airports at either end.  Hopefully she will come back unafflicted as it could be rather invvconvenient when she returns to work next week on an orthopaedic ward which apparently has a g high percentage of wrinklies occupying its beds.

Evenin' each,

Been raining steadily for a few hours.

Earlier I went to Nicki's and the final result was GDB 1 Desk 0.  It took longer than it should because of The Knee which even now is protesting. I am taking Red liquid anaesthetic to help.

A little while ago I received a text from Gemma when she got home from school : "Hi Grandad, thank you so much for my desk and for putting it together. It's perfect xx!" That made the aggro worthwhile. 

After doing the desk we went to Sainsbury's for a bit of shopping and most shelves were well stocked apart from the hand sanitiser type stuff and anti-bac sprays. Toilet rolls and paracetamol were much lower than usual. There was plenty of beer, brandy and wine so I topped up my supplies....just in case you understand.  Panic buying ? Me?
