Morning All

My daughter and son in law had their bikes stolen from a locked outside shed the door was ripped off no doubt the evil deed was done by some scrapping of a cesspit.

The estates manager reported yesterday on one of my neighbours who as been in hospital for over a month with a respiratory issue has contracted Covid19, poor woman

she is on oxygen at the moment the clapping outside the flats last night was a somber moment some of the ladies in tears" sh!t happens" that now 2 people I know who have

contracted the disease with one death.

I'm struggling with the lockdown it's only the video calls to my new babe that's keeping me sane, when I start climbing the walls I just call her up she has me in stitches within

seconds I can't wait for the lifting of the curfew.

Must get on please stay safe this pandemic is killing people   G.O. Innutts

Wallet in lockdown, bank account frozen, but I doubt it'll do much good!  

 

KZ, even at the bottom of the mercantile management tree we weren't allowed to eat with the crew (Bibby's were quite a snooty outfit) but were allowed to order crew curry in the saloon.  It had to be out of the earshot of one Old Man though as he hated such breaks of his imagined officerly code of conduct, but the one-ringers table was always far enough away from the exalted to get away with it.  Oddly, one Old Man I did sail with who was a real, genuine gentleman (The Rt. Hon. David Clayton - he's distant royalty) used to eat crew curry!  Lovely bloke too, even nice to lowly fivers as I was at the time.  

 

Off to repair one of the live steamers that was misbehaving last week.

• The Taj Mahal in Penzance, owned and staffed by ex Ghurkas - also do take away. Queen Street, off Marine Terrace.
• The Tea room at Lamorna (yes) - he organises curry nights.
• The North Inn in Pendeen - curry night including goat curry.

All this talk of curries reminds me of the early 1970s. With a couple of mates I used to go to a curry house in Cardiff Docks. This place was on the rough side, plastic table cloths, the ladies of the night with their customers and the loos were one level above truly disgusting. However the curry was magnificent!

 

After a while we drifted away from the place but decided a few years later to give it a try. Now you had to ring the doorbell to get in, the décor was good, white linen table cloths and loos that were pristine. Unfortunately the curry was, shall we say indifferent.

 

I formulated my law of curry houses at that point – the quality of the curry was inversely proportional to the state of the b0gs.

This was in the days before the current regulations, scores on the doors etc.

And Curry Corner in Penzance (top of Chapel Street) where you will find - sincerely hoping she is still in business as she has been there for about 25 years - one of the very few female Indian chef / cook / business owners in the UK. It's a takeaway place with just half a dozen seats in the window if you really want a sit-down and looks a bit grotty to be honest.  But the food is cooked right on front of you - also in the window - not out the back and you can see everything that goes in.  Almost street food in fact.  And very, very good it is too.  As she says this is "Good food not fast food".  

 

The North Inn seems to have good and less good nights.  Our last two visits were on less good nights.  Many local people talk it up; we were mildly disappointed.  Twice.

Afternoon awl, 

Keel bulb glassfibred, 4 layers nose and bottom, 2 layers on the sides, when set,  will be sanded, and more layers added. 

 

 Then to the MhRC. 

Venetian blinds.. 

 

I need to make a hillside,  SWMBO bought an old wooden Venetian blinds from a charity shop for £2.

It's slowly being demolished to make hand shuttles for weaving,  I've appropriated a dozen to stretch over the slidey unit to make a hillside.  In return I have to turn the dozen off cuts into shuttles this afternoon.. 

 

4 were installed ( screwed and glued each end)  before I returned to the house to await a parcel,  from Rapid electronics,  10kg plaster, it arrived courtesy messers, Dalsey, Hillblom and  Lynn, twenty minutes ago,  ordered Wednesday evening.. Good service from both. 

 

I've now demolished a cheese and mushroom toasty, when a Muggacoffee follows the same route,  it's back to being slartybartfast.

The curry nights are still going!  Well maybe not for the time being but .....  

 

Last year the offering was Jalfrezi or Balti and we suspected both were using cook-in sauces.  Nothing wrong with that but if you are going to do it in a pub at least make the effort to dress it up a little.

* I started using my HealthApp this morning.  It actually counted the pedalling in steps!  All 600 of 'em.  More steps in 20 minutes than I trod round the house all morning!  Well you know what I was doing this morning.........ERs!

Afternoon All

 

I've managed to get caught up, and all posts read and rated.   Generic greetings are, as ever, on offer.

 

30747 is now on a statin, and a blood thinning tablet, as the results of her tests revealed that she has very high cholesterol. and possibly had a TIA, but not one which has affected her brain.  Her treatment by our GP and specialist have been excellent to say the least - two weeks from her episode to being tested, and getting her medications can't be bad.

 

No bank statement today, as they had a server issue, and had to close as a result.

 

Back tomorrow.

Who needs Stubby.  ID built a Khazi for Green Ayre. When we exhibited at Lancaster a retired fireman told us that it was built directly over a large culvert and the young cleaners used to amuse themselves  by floating a pie tin with a lighted paraffin rag in it, down the culvert when said structure was occupied, better than a vindaloo for producing a ring of fire.

Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. No fewer than four magazines landed on the mat yesterday. All but one are looking a bit thinner than usual. I might add that only one (Back Track) is railway orientated, and thats the one thats normal size. A couple of smaller local shows have been defered rather than cancelled outright. The South Benfleet show has been put back to September and the show held by the Canvey bus museum has been defered but no specific date yet. Now to catch up on some reading, be back later.

Evenin' each,

A bit more time spent in The Shed today and believe it or not my plan* is slowly coming together. If I carry on at this rate I may even have a couple of circuits of joined up track in a few days time.

* I haven't actually got a plan as such because every time I've drawn one up it didn't work so I'm now winging it.

Zoomtime with family tonight and a virtual 45th birthday party for son Steve.  We would have been having a proper party tomorrow but as with everyone else such things are being postponed.  There is going to be one almighty shindig if and when we eventually get out of lockdown.

Finalised our Sainsbury's delivery for tomorrow a little while ago but rather peeved that all 4 of the weekly magazines that The Boss wants are available but Railway Modeller isn't. That can't be right!

Well this early, early retirement is doin' me in.  Spent the day disassembling  a rockery, with much digging of soil and filling large woven bags.  Followed by starting to dig out the stump where a bloody large conifer tree once lived.  Jeez, that's a b'stard job and a half.

Please, can I go back to work?  Nice quiet corner in the office, free tea bags and sugar, endless google and RMWeb, no-one knew what I was doing (or should be doing)....

Retirement is bloody hard work.  Now I know why all the lads who've trailblazed before me say they don't have time for work.

Still, that Rockery job has been buggin' me for years, and it's well underway now

If only it wasn't for that soddin' stump.  Still, it's actually below ground level now; I could leave it with no problem....but I'd still KNOW it was there.....

 

Finally, now I understand how Trumpie gets votes.  He bribes people with money*.  Had to be a simple explanation.

 

(* I'm sure none of our U.S. ER's fall for such shallow tactics however....)

Over the years, we've managed to balance our tax returns so that we don't pay much over the top but then you don't get much back so this extra was something of a windfall.  Those back home in the UK may not be much interested in the complicated US tax system but for the 'few', mostly in the PNW for some reason, its good to win some on occasion.

I-94? (Or perhaps some kind of addendum to I-94 or I-129) Long ago (>30 years) on my then H1-B Visa, I was required to keep a customs/immigration form in my passport when leaving the US (which I think was an I-94) but I don't recall ever needing proof of tax payment. A new one was issued on re-entry. Back then of course the visa was stamped / pasted into my passport.  It's all so long ago it's a bit of a blur. I expect it's much the same for you.

 

I do remember filling in my original visa application. The questions were a hoot.
