RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted June 23, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 23, 2020 Mooring awl, Just before leaving work, started getting pains in my left shoulder and upper arm. On driving home it steadily got worse. It feels in the bones not the muscles.. After a normal but painful evening, went bed with pink pills, woke in a panic.. It's light!!!! looked at watch 22:30... Managed to get to sleep again, woke at 12:02, couldn't sleep in pain and heat.. Tiptoed past snoring Collie and SWMBO. Now propped up lying on the sofa it's much less painful, and a lot less hot down here, Ben has come down to his bed. Excuse me I'm trying for more sleep.
Popular Post Florence Locomotive Works
Evening all, Not much happened today, lunch was leftover tacos. Breakfast was a grilled cheese strangely enough. Tomorrow I graduate 8th grade, so that should be good. It’s a “drive through” graduation, and seems to be well planned. The regulator valve still has yet to arrive, oh well. Been reading through my D.K. Clarke book for most of the afternoon, most enjoyable, though puzzling at times. He says it gets snickers from visitors, but if he falls down there, it will be accessible to him. 15

As a youngster I used to wonder why my mother sounded so serious when she said that so and so had had a fall. At that stage of my life, and for many years afterwards, if I fell, I just rolled over and got up. I am starting to understand my mother's concern. My wife beieves that you can have 2 falls after entering a seniors/nursing home and then it's just a short time unil you're gone. 2 4

That may be pretty accurate. In the last year there were a couple of people one octogenarian (my aunt) and an nonagenarian who fell. One (my aunt) is still with us. Both were very active and neither of them were in nursing homes. 2

Happy anniversary to Baz and best wishes to @TheQ, Douglas Can you explain 8th grade? Age of people, grading starts from when? It's a very different system. To the UK, which I don't fully understand. When I was at school in the UK in primary school it was years 1 to 6, starting from the age 5 and secondary years 1 to 6 finishing at 17 years old ish. ( but you could leave school at 16). It was raised to 15 in 1944, 16 in 1972, 17 in 2014 and 18 in 2015.. Since then many areas have introduced middle schools and sixth year and beyond colleges. And you are supposed to be in school or in training till the age of 18. How that all ties in with school year numbering I have no idea.. 5 5

Bill Thanks for that Bill. I will wait for the post. I've just got some much delayed titles from across the pond. However Kalmbach are still sending me online links. The French one I take, Rail Passion (No sniggerring he back there) seems to have continued without any interruption. Anyway, good moaning to all and sundry. Like Q, I would welcome an explanation of the grade system in US education, Douglas. Beth and I did good work on our friend's jungle yesterday though now their ferry has been cancelled for another week or two so I will go again in a week and give it another trim with the tractor. After lunch I trimmed our own grass, at least the main part of it. It certainly got a tad warm, nudging towards 30 degrees. A nice chicken curry and a bottle of Prosecco finished off the day. This morning I'm off to the local tyre place to get my tyres checked before the CT (Read MOT) on the Volvo. I had a puncture in the UK and you aren't allowed different makes of tyre on the same axle so I suspect that I will have to have 2 new tyres. The same happened on Beth's Clio when it went for it's annual service. Then there will be a bit more grass to cut. Apart from that not a lot is happenning. Young Emily had her first full morning at nursery yesterday as Rachel is due back at work in July. A lovely photo of her arrived and cheered us both up. Round here the combine harvesters are out and the harvest has started. I think it's barley that's being cut now. The wheat looks to be coming on very niceley and the sunflowers and maize (Corn to our north american readers) are coming on. It only seems a week or two since we were hearing the bird scarers after things were planted. Regards to all and i hope that Chrisf is still able to move. Popular Post Ozexpatriate
1 hour ago, TheQ said: Can you explain 8th grade? Age of people, grading starts from when? US schools are typically K-12. (K being Kindergarten). There are pre-school options as well that would be before "K". Students are normally 18 years old at graduation from grade 12 (their senior year of high school). Elementary school is usually K-5 Middle school is usually 6-8 High school is 9-12 (Freshmen- 9, sophomore-10, junior-11, senior-12). Year/Grade and typical age at the end of the school year (June) for each year: Elementary School K - 06 01 - 07 02 - 08 03 - 09 04 - 10 05 - 11 Middle School 06 - 12 07 - 13 08 - 14 High school 09 - 15 (Freshmen) 10 - 16 (Sophomore) 11 - 17 (Junior) 12 - 18 (Senior) EDIT: Usually Elementary school has a single teacher for the year. Middle school might have a "home room" teacher and other teachers for specialized subjects. High school will have individual teachers for individual subjects. The transition from middle school to high school is a big deal - the eighth graders go from 'big fish' to 'small fish' over the summer. Each of these is usually cumulatively larger. High schools can have thousands of students. The local one to me has almost 2,000 students. (The middle school has about 1,000 and the local elementary school 500.) Popular Post chrisf
Greetings one and all, with belated anniversary greetings to Barry and Mrs Barry Erichill, you spoke too soon. My attempts at a good night's sleep last night came to very little. It now hurts to lie down. Rather, it does after a while. When I finally think that I have found an ideal sleeping position a stabbing pain from the vicinity of the lower ribcage impels me to start again. I wonder whether I will be able to climb in and out of the bath? Assuming that I am not immobilised in the process, I have the fodder run to do this morning, not least to stock up on pain killers. This evening there is a virtual meeting of the HMRS Bletchley area via Zoom At least I can sit down for that. I never thought that I would be longing to ride in a Voyager. One such would have been a key part of my journey to Dublin today had that ruddy virus not brought the whole trip crashing down. At the weekend there is some sort of virtual global Pride. I'd love to know how you can have a virtual parade/procession. How do you capture the hands reaching from the crowd, often five deep, inviting high fives? We shall see. Yes, and at what age does falling over become having a fall? If it's 80 I think I'm a bit previous. RMweb Premium TheQ Posted June 24, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 24, 2020 Thanks for the explanation of the grade system. Mooring Awl, Inner Temple Hare, 893 / 558 A poor nights sleep maybe 6 hours total over a 8 hour period, after the 12:02 wake up it was roughly an hour between following wake ups to get comfortable again.. On the way home yesterday some of liquid tar on which the gravel thrown last year was melting again... My left shoulder has eased a bit, helped by a liberal coating of ibuprofen gel. It was woken again by driving in... All those gear changes and turning the wheel.. Ben the alarm clock Collie, was too early again....by 46 seconds, He started getting out of bed a second or so before the countdown music started for the news.. One of the motorcaravans that was hiding in a field entrance is now more open about it, being parked outside a pub.. However there is 10 days to go... In a passing place on a narrow lane was a small grey car, windows steamed up, Beach wind break between it and the field, camping stove with frying pan on, various bits of detritus on the ground. Me thinks there are too many people think it's July the 4th... The first major system of the week has been completed I just have to analyse the cross check results shortly, the second system due to start today has been cancelled, as it's the last week of the company financial month and they want everything out of the door they can.. I will therefore today start on the back log of little bits and pieces, resistors and current shunts mostly.. But first to check the spam, I've already cancelled an invite to a virtual dinner during last night, someone in the USA doing a" send all "again.. Time to... go.. 3
RMweb Premium Popular Post Barry O Posted June 24, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 24, 2020 (edited) Ey up! I hope all is OK with the missing ERs? I have had contact with one or two who are fine but "having a break". Hope they do come back, refreshed, soon. After a discussion with a GP yesterday I await a call from Sister Drac or one of her acolytes today. I need to ring and order my prescriptions and the LGI to see if I can track down the information regarding my scan...lummy...seems like a "medical" day. It is a beautiful morning here so far so I shall also be involved in bits of gardening (various) and muddling (various). I hope to fit in a gentle stroll if my medical stuff can be completed. Right, time to sort out Wednesday..it is going to be a busy day! Stay safe! Baz Edited June 24, 2020 by Barry O 6

RMweb Premium Popular Post Dave Hunt Posted June 24, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 24, 2020 Good morning ( and it is a very fine morning here in North Hipposhire) to one and all. Today will see my first venture back into the world we left in March - a visit to the dentist . I cracked a filling the day after lockdown started but apart from a few twinges it has, remarkably and very luckily, remained fairly trouble free for three months. Mind you, I have been very, very careful with it and have cleaned my teeth about four times a day. It will be interesting to see how the dental practice manages the situation. In other news there isn't a lot of it. The potential legal trouble I referred to is still quiet but annoying and Jill is making noises about us visiting the grandchildren but the logistics of that whilst maintaining sensible precautions are open to debate as two are in Derbyshire and one is in Surrey. I suppose I could always wave to GDB on the way to Leatherhead. I think that the dinner menu menu has been decided; Jill has just announced that the lead characters in a book she is reading are having halloumi burgers. "That sounds nice, let's try them," she has announced. Guess who now has to find the recipe, source the ingredients and produce the things? Answers on the backs of blank cheques to me please..... Have a good Wednesday people or if you live in the antipodes I hope you did have a good Wednesday. Dave 15

I can think of a number of possible reasons for this, following on from your fall. Some are relatively unserious and will be transient or short-term, some will be more serious. Either way, you need to be properly diagnosed and treated (even something as minor as a cracked rib will have potential to cause problems if not properly assessed and an appropriate therapy started) 2 hours ago, TheQ said: ....My left shoulder has eased a bit, helped by a liberal coating of ibuprofen gel. As with ChrisF’s situation I can think of a number of possible diagnoses for what you have described. All of them, whether minor or not so minor, require a definitive diagnosis and an appropriate treatment. In both your cases, delaying assessment and treatment (if any) risks rendering the underlying condition worse. Differential diagnosis requires both experience and objective assessment, so self-diagnosis via “Dr Google” is most certainly NOT advised. iD 5
Popular Post bbishop
Chris, you need an x-ray so visit your local injuries unit. Can you self present? Of course you will get tympanic, saturations, blood pressure, blood sugars and probably an electrocardiogram as well. Check your footware before you go, it seems that if you were to turn up in France wearing odd trainers, you would be an automatic fail. RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted June 24, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 24, 2020 Good morning everyone Like yesterday, we were up a little later than planned but I guess we needed the rest. The sun is shining and the skies are blue, but there are a few white fluffy things dotted about. As I mentioned last night, today I’m going to remove all the limit switches and associated wiring from the turntable and make a start on fitting the bridge wiring connections. Time to get cracking. Stay safe, stay sane, enjoy whatever you have planned for the day, back later. 17
RMweb Premium Popular Post PhilJ W Posted June 24, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 24, 2020 Morning all from Estuary-Land. I was about to give the same advice to Chris as above, it sounds like bruised or even cracked ribs. We oldun's should have any unusual or new aches and pains checked out. A few years ago I started having back pains which I put down to sciatica. As it turned out it was a kidney stone, I only found out when it decided to leave, I was fortunate that no real damage was done. My brother though had the same problem and assumed like I did that it was sciatica. In his case however the kidney stone stuck and he had to have the kidney removed. Now his other kidney has failed and he will spend the rest of his life on dialysis three times a week.
