RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted August 31, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 31, 2020 Good evening everyone Another day and more progress has been made on the bathroom cabinet. That has had two top coats applied, the doors have had one top coat applied, so will need another before it’s all complete, I’ve also given the door knobs two coats of varnish, which I think will be enough. Once everything is done the plan is to leave it all for a few days to completely harden off before re-fitting it to the wall. I’ll re-fit the doors when the carcass is on the wall, it’ll also be a bit lighter too! Goodnight all Brian 16 1

They offer a 13xxxx phone number for contact which only operates within Australia and which cannot be reached even through international assistance. I have trawled the intertubes and failed to locate a "proper" number (area code plus eight digits) I could call. When we first bought our motorhome we took an extended holiday in Florida. During this I needed to pay the gas company. I tried to phone the -800- free number but it only worked in Canada. There was no local number that I could call long distance. I ended up calling my sister at work and she created a 3-way call. My sister commented that when she set up the -800- number for their company, full North American access cost very little more than limited.
Popular Post Robert
Morning All, Today is the first day of meteorological autumn and we seem to have the first signs! It was definitely quite a bit colder overnight and there is a definite chill in the air this morning. The heating came on for the first time too - quite a bit earlier this year. There isn't a lot else to report, so have a good day everyone... Edited September 1, 2020 by Robert 14 4
Popular Post chrisf
Greetings one and all I was feeling distinctly lacklustre yesterday and retired to bed at 9 pm. I'm not much better today so I shall spend the day quietly once I have been out to post a letter and buy the lottery tickets. Between now and next week I shall reflect on the wisdom of reminding the surgery that I have not had a summons to the diabetes clinic for quite some time. I will be causung enough trouble by booking an appointment for my hormone injection so might just as well be hung for a sheep as a lamb. I will give the answer to my pop trivia thing tomorrow. I bet you can hardly wait. Best wishes to all Chris 2

RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted September 1, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 1, 2020 Mooring Awl, Inner Temple Hare 5.5 hours +1 + 20 minutes.. Ben the alarm clock Collie was a bit early this morning or there'd have been more.. Absolutely clear skies for the patrol, mist lifting from the fields and from a new Stack of straw that has appeared on the concrete pan.. The odd thing being they are very large oblongs, where as all the fields around us were bailed into rounds.. A quick visit to the BBQ area has ascertained the concrete has set correctly, and a minor thought has occurred to slightly improve the look. I keep seeing the attempts at answers, but I've forgotten the question.. Coming in very misty especially at the rivers, the first bridge I've crossed, it's been announced it will be closed for most of November for the waterproofing to be replaced, This will only be a couple of mile diversion, but the traffic on the minor roads will cause chaos, making it very much slower.. For some the diversion could mean a 20 mile round trip. One unhappy teanager was pushing his motor bike along a foot path near work, he stopped to try to start it.. it didn't.. Two major systems due this week in 4 days.. unlikely they'll both get finished... Time to get on with the first one.. 19
RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted September 1, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 1, 2020 (edited) Good moaning from down ere. As Robert mentioned it is definitely cooler on a morning but we are promised 30 degrees on Friday. The sunflowers have gone black and wrinkly so the harvesters will no doubt be out soon. They and the maize are the last crops. Yesterday we got the various medical appointments done. We never have any trouble with the GP. A Romanian who trained in the USA and speaks excellent English. The receptionist is also very helpful. Beth got to the pain clinic, very nervous that they would mess with the cocktail of drugs that allow her to live a relatively normal life. I went and sat in the station for two hours and enjoyed reading and train watching. A message arrived that she needed some assistance booking an MRI so off I went. She was in a good mood and had been very impressed with the specialist. However she couldn't quite understand the prescription. I was despatched back to the pain clinic and with the helpful assistance of the receptionist got in to see the Dr who explained everything. I wrote out a dosage chart for the next 2 weeks. Then the MRI was booked and we set off home. Excellent service. A good evening was had at some friends sitting round a fire pit. I'm off shortly to get my hair cut then this afternoon the car goes in for service. Regards to all. RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted September 1, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted September 1, 2020 Good morning all, The sun is shining but it is quite cool here. A dry day with sunny spells forecast. Our heating won't come on until I instruct it to and hopefully won't have to for a while yet. The Boss (or Ice Maiden as I call her in the winter) would happily never have it on! She never seems to feel the cold. Yesterdays rugby between Bath and Wasps enjoyed apart from the injury count with Wasps losing both their hookers and a couple of other players so there were uncontested scrums for half the match. Mind you, that did speed the scrum setting up. A close fought match with Wasps surprisingly edging it, probably because Bath weren't able to use their superior scrum to full advantage. Some domestic and financial stuff to do this morning. Have a good one, Bob.

Before t’interweb thingy, it was the rare business that thought more than locally (big conglomerates like ICI excepted) and - until recently - it wasn’t cost effective to set up international capable systems. But nowadays, I think those companies that are able to, and do, do business internationally are the ones that are going to survive and thrive. Why bother with “Surbiton high street bank”, when UBS or similar will take care of your needs at home and away... I think that this is also true for model railways - with (say) Hatton’s or musical gear with (say) Gear4Music, and many other areas besides. And of course our favourite woman warrior is the leading example in the field. 58 minutes ago, TheQ said: Mooring Awl, Inner Temple Hare 5.5 hours +1 + 20 minutes.. Like Mrs iD, Lucy’s approach is to always sneak in a few extra winks. Many’s the day when I have arisen, dressed and almost finished breakfasting before the Dowager Duchess deigns to make an appearance.... 52 minutes ago, jamie92208 said: ...I'm off shortly to get my hair cut ... Wow, France must really be doing you good if you now have a luxurious mane of hair. At the last “Brains Trust” meet-up you attended, I distinctly remember that you were heading (no pun intended) into Telly Savalas territory. It’s also good to learn that Beth’s pain is being properly managed. Whilst you can certainly “live with” chronic, intractable, pain (as my joints can attest), without adequate management it is both draining and debilitating. Whilst on the subject of bodily functions (so to speak) I can proudly claim that my body is both original and functional! Sadly, the original bits aren’t functional and the functional bits aren’t original.... I hope that the “Brains Trust” can reconvene next May (probably May 13), Suspecting that the UK would - sooner or later - impose a quarantine on travellers from Switzerland (whether visitors or returnees by rail, air or car [by boat would be a bit of challenge as you’d have to navigate the Rhine]), it was prescient of me to make the change when I could (i.e. moving flights and hotel from September to next May). As for next May? We’ll see. A lot depends on how progress on the vaccine, test & trace and organisational fronts turns out. I won’t hold my breath. iD 18 1
RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted September 1, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 1, 2020 Good morning everyone A slightly duller start to the day this morning, but the sun is trying to shine. My first task this morning will be a visit to the dentist, my appointment is 9 o’clock, so this is the only occasion that I’ll leave the house without eating, I’ll get my breakfast when I get back. Then it’s back downstairs to the cellar to finish painting the bathroom cabinet. Stay safe, stay sane, enjoy whatever you have planned for the day, back later. Popular Post AndrewC
Greetings all from a rather chilly boring borough. Not a lot of excitement here. Managed to pull something in my right hip yesterday descending from the loft ladder. We are trying to clean up the layers of crud that rained down on everything due to the builders next door breaking through the party wall a few months back. A few things ruined but mostly just mortar dust and dirt. The real issue is a lot of this "dust" got quite damp and has hardened onto surfaces. Don't worry the hoofw*nking herd of bunglec*nts are getting a rather massive bill for all the damage they've caused. £5k to rebuild our chimney stack and flues for starters. Neighbour on the other side has similar. Now a third neighbour has joined the fun as the last skip lorry knocked over part of his back dividing wall. Council is now over 4 weeks late in making a decision on their application for an HMO. I think they are trying to strengthen their case for rejection to minimise the chance of multiple appeals. 7 local objections and at least 2 councillors are against it. North American 800 numbers, billing, routing, etc is/was rather complex. (my past was with AGT, now Telus, doing routing and toll rate stuff) At one time the cost of an 800 number was directly related to the number of rate steps from the actual location to the furthest point where it was available. A rate step is based on a mileage calculated by the V & H coordinates between 2 toll centres. <yawn> Way back when an 800 number that was only available in Ontario was massively cheaper than a Canada wide one, and pennies compared to North America wide. Many of these geographic restrictions are still in place for companies who have had 800 numbers for decades. Which leads me to remember just how expensive long distance calling used to be. $2.50cad per minute to the UK. Calgary to Toronto & all points east, was a peak of $1.07/min. The bizarre upshot of this is if you call an 800 number that is geo restricted from the UK you may or may not get through depending on where your call enters the country. the IOTC points for Canada are Montreal and Vancouver. If you call a "western" 800 number and land in Montreal, you are out of luck. Enough of that boring rubbish. It is amazing what crap the brain retains as it is 32 1/2 years since I left AGT/Telus. Enjoy the day. 6 5
