Ozexpatriate
Our string of summer-like weather was indeed broken by the forecast rain arriving yesterday. The amount of rain forecast declined with every day last week and there was much less of it than originally projected, but I imagine the garden was pleased. Spring-like weather today but it feels strange. Last weekend's 30°C is now a memory. A little cool at 13°C or so and despite more rain forecast for the afternoon, the sun is shining brightly, amid dark clouds. Golf is on, but the alternate ball, team format is not compelling, despite a pair of Australians sharing the lead at the turn and now in the lead on the back nine. Am feeling the pandemic ennui with no data yet indicating a decline in daily new case rate statewide. 5 1

I was willing to buy a new one but thought I would try the repair I found on YouTube. The repair consisted of gently running a pencil over the rubber contact. I hadn’t got a 2B pencil but a HB seemed ok. Still working! Edit. I think I should explain that this was the inner face of the rubber contact where it touches the circuit board not the outer bit where your finger presses. RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted April 25, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 25, 2021 At £5:34 post free I'd rather get a replacement. It seems to be sealed anyway, the only thing accessible is the battery compartment.

I will be happy to replace it when it finally dies but it was something to do. I only repair things if they cease to work now, that way I don’t feel bad if I destroy it. I, of course service things that need servicing but occasionally I just like to see if I can fix something. I really did try to sort out the problem with my 1970s record deck recently but I accepted that it wasn’t possible. I must admit I really can tell and appreciate that the replacement is better. Aditi can too, but was interested to know that what I purchased is probably only entry level (or “budget”) in hifi terms. Robust and practical seems handy though compared to some of the more esoteric offerings. Edited April 25, 2021 by Tony_S

Bear does HATE it when things don't come apart by twiddling a few screws - the number of things that have suicide clips on (those little plastic jobbies that break at the first sign of anyone trying to get in), not to mention security screws buried very deeply down narrow channels, thus stopping you from using those matching drivers on the end of a hex body, BlOOdy throwaway society.... Incidentally, seven years doesn't sound very long to me - what make is it? At least the price is a decent deal. Not sure what tomorrow will bring - the grass has yet to be cut this year - so that's a maybe, or I could get really excitable and clean the bathroom. Actually I could easily do both.... It's this week that the new kitchen units are due - I think the deal is that I get a text & email the day before delivery, though I think I'll give them a call tomorrow to see if I can get any better clues from a real person.

One of the more minor irritations has been the interruption of Sunday morning bimbles along the country lanes on my old AJS. An essential element of said bimbles was the customary stopping off somewhere with friends for a "Bikers Breakfast" (a thinly disguised Full English) and an hour or so of talking complete and utter nonsense putting the world to rights. Please make it stop soon, I need more bacon and bimbles! Lovely sound Pups, I had a 350 AJS Trials Bike back in the late 60's. Awesome.
RMweb Premium Popular Post Dave Hunt Posted April 25, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 25, 2021 We went to see Dad today at Ludlow. He was so pleased to see us and since the weather was nice one of the nurses took him out into the garden in a wheelchair so instead of a half hour slot in the ward we stayed with him for nearly two hours. He still can't eat solids very successfully and is having lots of nutrient drinks and isn't managing to sleep much but the difference in his demeanour from when we first walked in to when we left was noticeable and I think the visit did him good. We were also able to talk to the staff about some of the issues that we had and they were able to reassure us on several counts so that was worthwhile too. We asked about getting him transferred to Whitchurch and were told that he is on the transfer list and that the staff agree with us that it would be beneficial for him. If he is still at Ludlow next weekend we'll go again but I'd be a lot happier if he could be at Whitchurch. When we got back home I was treated to a fillet steak birthday tea with all the trimmings accompanied by a nice Malbec and followed by a toothsome drop of Jura. I am now settled on the sofa with Vaughan Williams' Lark Ascending as a soothing accompaniment, which is as good an end to the day as I could wish for. G'night everyone Dave 3

I live in the North and fit in the ABC1 definition. Though I suppose that automatically puts me in the awkward * pile. During my upbringing, midday meal was dinner as it was cooked by Mother because Dad being a Copper worked 2-10, 10-6,6-2 shifts.. Invariably a full meat and potatoes meal, a pasty or a fry up. Tea was later when I came home from school and usually consisted of crumpets, cake or jelly or jam sandwiches. Supper, late, was a repeat of lunch in some cases. My Dad had a good appetite but looking back some meals were huge! On the subject of Wimpy bars, they were cool and very Yank! Or at least thats what we thought then as teenagers but not exactly McDonalds though! They lasted till the real thing came over which by that time was passé as the novelty had worn off so it was back to the pub! Brian. 18

Awesome. Mine's an early 50's heavyweight, road single 350. A present to myself for a "Significant Birthday" a few years ago that marked my return to motorcycling after a 40+ year gap. I have to say it was perhaps my finest ever purchase. The specific type of bike was chosen because of family associations and the fact that I have no desire to race around like a mad thing (and probably kill myself in the process) on a more modern, performance machine. Excluding the minor fettling costs I've incurred, it has so far cost me about 30p / mile and as I get about a 100 smiles / mile I'm calling that a result! Absolutely fantastic, wish I'd done it years ago. Edited April 25, 2021 by PupCam 19

RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted April 25, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 25, 2021 Good evening everyone Another day spent in the sunshine, but no hard labouring tasks today, just a bit of gardening was undertaken. There were a few weeds that needed pulling, one of the camellias needed dead heading and also a few plants that needed re-locating. This is due mainly to having final agreed on the position of the new path. This meant that the plants in question would have been in the area that will eventually be planted with camomile. One of theses, a penstemon, needed cutting back anyway, so that was moved at the same time. The garden is really coming along nicely now, the apple tree is almost in full bloom, the peonies are doing well and a lot of the roses are getting buds, some look like they will open soon. Once all the rubble has been cleared next week, I’ll be able to get the last bit of earth moved around and levelled off. The potted plants will then be able to go straight into the ground then too. Whilst I was digging the new holes for plants, a few more chunks of coal were dug up. So they were all washed and left to dry in the sun, after I’d finished for the day and before I came in, I put them in the container with the rest of the coal. Once I’d had my mid afternoon muggertea, I did a bit of eyelid inspection, before serving up tonight’s tea. I made enough for 4 portions and 2 were left to cool down before going into the freezer for future consumption. Glad to read that Dave was able to visit his dad and that the visit was beneficial to him, fingers crossed he can get transferred to Whitchurch soon. 19

Popular Post JohnDMJ
Couple of missed calls yesterday (for, as I write, it is now Monday!) from the local hospital with no message left. Eventually, having identified the number which had called, I spoke to a very understanding person who enquired if I was coming for my covid swab prior to my endoscopy examination on Wednesday. I say 'understanding' as I informed her that this was news to me, my last communication on this matter having been on 16th April; I expect the letter later today inviting me for the test yesterday! She said she would log it other than as a missed appointment and make new arrangements! 1 1
