RMweb Premium New Haven Neil Posted June 10, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 10, 2021 Morning, a rather disappointing 15c, strong wind and patchy sun here. The foreguess isn't great for most of the island, except our bit on the northern plain where sunshine is predicted. I was going to go to Laxey for lunch, maybe not now as mist and cloud is to be their lot. EV's will be an issue here, if they need anything like 80 amps.....not many domestic installations have that kind of excess current (over normal load) available. Also as new gas boilers etc are being banned, then heating will also need electricity in large lumps of current. I see massive increases in electricity prices, it's already much more expensive here than in the UK. Mostly gas turbine and combined cycle generation here (with a diesel plant in Peel), with a bit of 2.5 twin-and-earth connected to the UK for when we need a bit extra, but it is more usually the other way, we send excess to the UK. EV range isn't a problem for us on a rock 32 miles by 12, but access to charging facility in the small villages with no parking by houses and densely populated town centre of Douglas will be. We'll buy a new diesel when Debs retires, and that'll see us out. Both our current cars are diesel, we like the torque and economy, my last car (Ford B-Max) was the first petrol I had had for years, in this very hilly island it was.....crepe. Gutless thing, all revs and fluster, no oomph unless you revved the taters off it. 6
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted June 10, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 10, 2021 Morning all from Estuary-Land. A bit overcast this morning, but its still warm, not less than 14 degrees outside. Not that I will be going out much today with the pollen levels sky high. If I want to watch the partial solar eclipse I'll watch it on the net, a lot safer as well. Bin day today, just as well they're usually early as in this heat the bags will start to pong.
Popular Post Erichill16
Morning All, Just finishing off my breakfast coffee then I’ll get ready for the surgery appointment in Penistone. I may pop in to Tesco’s as I’m completely out of beer and a few other bits. Hopefully by the time I’ve finished at the docs and Tesco’s the gf bakery/cafe will be open and I can get myself a treat. Not sure what else will get done but hopefully the lawn will get cut and some bookwork will get completed. Have a good day, Robert

Andrew P
The walk has been completed, as has breakfast, and its a sort of damp claggy morning, not wet, not hot, very humid and misty, merkey, sort of start to the day. I will move on, and it it gets warmer the Lawn may be threatened with a cut later, dependant on the mood at the time, TBO it could last another couple of days, and we have some more nice weather approaching. Have a good day one and all, stay safe and keep well.

RMweb Premium Popular Post Dave Hunt Posted June 10, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 10, 2021 Good morning from a greyish but dry North Hipposhire. I'm currently sipping muggocoffee no. 2 slowly as when it is finished I am reliably informed that there is quite a bit of the G word required - to use a Bazism, Pah! This evening Jill and I are going out to one of our favourite restaurants for the first time in over fifteen months and we are really looking forward to it. I realise that the rate of plague infections is going up but from the information I have gleaned, since we are both double dosed with vaccine and the precautions the restaurant are taking seem sensible I think that the risk is minimal and, to be honest, we are so fed up with living like hermits. Two weeks tomorrow we are due to be going to London for a formal lunch at the RAF Club but that is dependant on what happens on the 21st. Dad continues to improve, albeit slowly, both in mobility and eating and the people at the care home are beginning to talk about him going home in the not too distant future. This afternoon I've arranged for a chap to have a look at the non-working fridge in his house and we are considering what to do about getting people in to clean the house and take care of the garden on a regular basis. When I mentioned this to Dad he cavilled about the expense so I asked him whether at 98 he was saving up for his old age. Have a good getting close to POETS day people. RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted June 10, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 10, 2021 Hmm I'm now being bombarded by adverts for Calvin Klein female underwear, being worn by women who look extremely unhappy and some could bump start a tank.. I don't know whose been looking at that in the factory but is sure isn't a way to sell stuff.. Meanwhile I've just inherited (from work) a rack made of 1 inch square tubing with Many levels. This will give me lots of joints to assemble trollies for the workshop.. I'll just have to buy 1 inch square tubing in longer lengths. Lunchtime will involve much use of a mallet to take it apart.
RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted June 10, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 10, 2021 Good morning everyone It’s a dull and grey day here in the northwest of England, cooler than last week, only 17C at the moment and there is a slight chance of rain at some point today. The plans for today are to continue with the framing of the doorway, I’m hoping to finish that today. There has been a suggestion of a lazy afternoon, but as nice as that sounds, I somehow don’t see that happening. Stay safe, stay sane, enjoy whatever you have planned for the day, back later. The Lurker
Greetings all from Sidcup where clouds are dominating the view. They must have known there was a vague chance of seeing the annular eclipse at 11.13 in London. I suspect no chance! I note that BMW's i4, which is the EV equivalent of our current car, starts at £90k. That's pretty much 3 x the petrol version. Its range is sufficient for us to be able to get to the in laws without stopping to recharge. But we would be running it fine. Poser for the day; why is the BBC's new correspondent, reporting on the G7 conference near St Ives, basing himself in Plymouth? 7

She isn’t short of money but getting her to buy something new is very difficult. She just says there is no point at her age. She really begrudges the money she pays for care too. It should be going to her grandchildren not carers apparently. MiL had some difficulty getting into our house on Saturday. The front step is a bit high. I have now purchased something called a portable half step which should help on any return visit. Otherwise if she came more often I think a step rebuild would be needed. MiL asked why were we spending money for her and I said I suspect we will need such a thing one day too. I spent some time looking at garden step hand rails too, a fascinating topic. I didn’t get to bed early last night. For some reason an email we needed a printout from wouldn’t print from my iPad. So I used the PC except it would not print from Windows 10 Mail, however it did from Outlook. I then noticed Outlook would not send emails just receive. These are BTinternet emails. The information in the ongoing and outgoing server options was correct, stuff just kept staying in the outbox, logging off emptied the outbox and sent the email to a black hole somewhere in cyberspace. I did get it working. I don’t know how but I suspect putting in a deliberate wrong option and then correcting it. may have have done something. I did try looking for advice on the internet but it seems I am not the only person experiencing this! Some of the requests for help go back a few years, as does the “it just started working again”. Anyway I slept well after that. After lunch we are off to Hyde Hall for a walk. There probably won’t be as many people as last week as it isn’t half term anymore. Popular Post Simon G
Just recently back from our annual visit to Loch Lomond, and fantastic it was too. The weather was pretty good overall, so lots of walking was done. It was very busy at times in the tourist hot-spots with people to whom social distancing was meaningless, so we avoided those areas like the plague! Todays weather is pretty carp just now being cool;, damp and breezy. Some gardening has been done as it had turned into something of a weeds paradise while we were away. Some sowing of vegetable seeds has also been done to supplement some of things which havent come up with earlier sowing, as well as some which require warmer weather to germinate (here's hoping!) 20
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted June 10, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 10, 2021 Hello again from Estuary-Land. I forgot all about the eclipse of the sun today, I did notice it get a bit dull a short time ago now its hazy sunshine. Erichill16
Afternoon All, Had bloods taken, got a scone from the cafe and collected essential supplies from Tesco including a certain magazine. Half way through cutting the grass but don’t want to cut it too short as looking at the weather forecast there’s little chance of rain for at least another week. Sun not out here but still warm. Texted sil to ask how Syd was this morning, no reply. Hes been a bit off it recently, as well as yesterday’s episode he appears to be sneezing a lot and think he must have a touch of hay fever. To add to his woes he’s gone for stripping this morning. Better get the mower going again, later, Robert 1

RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted June 10, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 10, 2021 Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. A busy evening ahead on Zoom. Firstly a committee meeting followed by a talk on the progress of the F5 locomotive. Hopefully the hay fever will have abated, its been really bad this afternoon. Must get on with an early dinner as I won't have time later. 13
Popular Post simontaylor484
Afternoon all Day one of the great clearout the midi skip is half full despite judicious loading. There is still loads more to come i think I will need another skip pah. An ev with just enough range to get to the outlaws but not get back on one charge sounds like bad news to me. I saw somewhere that there were hundreds of RVs at a Raf station in Cornwall to house 400 secret service agents. 18

Yesterday a visit to a local museum and dinner, original plan was for outside activities, those quashed by the Severe Weather alert re: excessive heat warning Another miserable day today, 23 at BIN time, sunny and really humid, heading for another 35+ high. Severe heat index warnings and other health alerts being given regularly on the radio. Basically stay in, run a/c and drink plenty of fluids. That's NOT to include alcohol supposedly, but they are full of sh!t as I feel better with that in this awful heat Stay safe everyone. 12

Oh I dunno....using their leccy to recharge before going home is (a) free, and (b) likely to ensure they never invite you again. Win-win.... In other news: Bear has successfully delivered mucho to the charity warehouse, who were most appreciative. Then a flying visit to Home Bargains saw a distinct lack of available trolleys, which was A Good Thing cos' Bear was limited to what could be carried in two baskets. Still saw off the thick end of forty quid though, a fair wedge of which went on yummy stuff. Oops.... Then a refill of the car for the first time in I don't know how long - the price of petrol came as a bit of a shock The a couple of hours of socialising in a friends garden - far too much cake than is good for a Bear was presented , and the goodie bag to go home with was crackin'. Not a lot since then - a Pizza disappeared (part of the goodie bag), as well as disinfecting today's shopping and then catching up with the happenings on RMWeb. No kitchen progress today so I must crack on with it tomorrow. 18
