Some 12 years ago now.  And it is still a dull day though sun is promised later.  

 

Here I humbly post grateful acknowledgement and thanks to all those whom I have met, virtually and / or in real life, through this lengthy topic, for all the friendship and support freely given, and in no small measure I offer my respects to the memory of those we have lost along the way who have contributed to our Early Rising, our daily check-ins, our support network and our friendship.  

 

We have shared and learned a good deal about each other, indulged in humour, banter and informed debate and we have spawned offspring among which is a face-to-face, or rather face-to-pint, Brains Trust (hopefully to be revived in the future when international circumstances permit) and a cancer support thread for those in any way affected by that condition.  

 

I'll raise a glass to us all at a suitably later hour.  In the meantime here's to 10,000 pages of Early Risers and to us all.  And to @Andy Y and the team for allowing us a measure of freedom to be ourselves in his clubroom.

Well said, Rick.

 

I came here, and all of RMWeb, originally at a time of very low mood due to a long recovery period after some gory hip surgery (is there any other type?) and found a place of great support and knowledge - given freely and without prejudice.

 

Having been through more goryness later with the Lisfranc fracture foot accident, ER's yet again was a place of refuge, and now in somewhat enforced retirement is once again a place of support and comradeship.  Long may it last.  I even do some modelling sometimes, but shh we're not supposed to talk about that here.

 

Again thanks to Andy Y for facilitating this corner of happyness.

I discovered RMWeb when I needed to answer some questions about the Wakefield show and over the next couple of years kept seeing ER's and thought, I daren't go there.  Anyway I eventually dived in and like others above have found it a place of great help, support and often sage advice.  There is of course humour and great friendship.  Long may it continue.  

Anyway who mentioned sheds, you should have known better.

Sainsbury's visited , the car was topped up with juice and The Boss is happy with her purchases.  I ended up buying a couple of shirts in the sale and a copy of Railway Modeller as there is an article by a certain Mr P  in there.

 

Now that is what you call a REAL MAN CAVE. Superb Bob, and the Drop down flap has given me ideas for my NEW Layout that starts next Month once all the O Gauge has been sold off. BTW, I have Mike Wild of Hornby Mag due down on the 27 to do a Photo Shoot for an article next year.

Greetings all from Sidcup and a happy 10000th! It's cloudy here; another day when the promising sunny start disappeared.

 

It was a busy start which has now been interrupted by various things domestic - including getting Autosport and LDC for Younger Lurker. He'll probably disappointed that I could not get the standard LDC but had to get one with icing and swirls on. Call me old fashioned but it doesn't seem like a proper LDC without the sugary crust. You don't get that with icing. A certain bear may well have other views of course....

Bear would suggest hiding as much as possible from prying eyes - especially locos and tools, since a tradesmen may just make a mental note for a later date...

In other news:

A fun (not) morning spent on the G word in the front garden.  All hedges cut and borders weeded.  Bear happy now, as it looks infinitely tidier.  Only the grass to cut (there's not a lot) but we've adjourned to the back garden for the moment, starting any minute now.  However, a distinct lack of space remaining in the green wheelie bin could be a limiting factor....

I think I found RM web around the time MREmag stopped being a regular twice weekly newsletter. On a google search, someone in another forum had posted that RMWeb seemed to be down; rather than going to that forum I went to this one instead....

 

I mainly Lurked for a long time. Finding here, I loved the wistful, almost bittersweet humour, that prevailed in and among the weather reports from South Africa, workdays from Melbourne and the doings of the Whelkmen of France. It took me a fair while to say hello, but less time than it has taken for me to get from the dreaming/planning stage of a layout....that really got disrupted when I realised that Younger Lurker was going to need the room I had earmarked! Still, only a few more years and one or other of them will have moved out

I joined RMweb in 2009 and lurked for quite a while before daring to post.  Really glad I did and was made most welcome.  There's always a shoulder to cry on and advice freely given (even if you don't want it   and good humour abounds most of the time.  I have, over the years,  met some really nice people both virtually and in the flesh.  Here's hoping it won't be too long before we can meet up again.

I joined RM web in early 2009, having lurked for a few months before, mainly to answer a question about whether a local shop was still open.  My reply that it was being replaced by a Polish shop prompted a remark about Johnson's Kleer, which I found mildly amusing, not being familiar with the ongoing discussions of it.  I read ERs for a while before posting, but have kept up ever since although I don't post on a daily basis.  I've had the pleasure of meeting several ERs in person.  Thank you all for your company.

And sadly in the same week as we pass this milestone Gordon S who started E Rs on an earlier version of RMw has  departed RIP Gordon, you builded better than you knew. I joined because I had the answer to a obscure question posed by another absent friend. It took me a while to find ERs but after being welcomed into the fold this became my favourite part and the folks here have helped me more than you know

Seems I joined in 2017, not that I knew, probably to do with my re joining the muddling fraternity, not sure when I first posted on here though, for a bunch of grumpy old cumugundley(I don't know how to spell that and nor does the spell chucker) barstewards, you are actually quite nice to mix with, I think I've only met one north of the border though lol.

ps I have been fleeced for muddling tokens by some on here on occasion though lol.

It did have that reputation but I never had any problems with the handling even turning right at a local mini roundabout with a rather pronounced button and an adverse camber. The problem arose because they became 'trendy' at one time and the mostly young inexperienced drivers expected them to handle like a Mini Cooper. Not helped by the open top versions being the most popular amongst those drivers.
