RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted July 24, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 24, 2021 Good afternoon everyone Very late on parade this morning! After breakfast I went straight out to a small independent plant nursery for some more plants, YES I DID SAY MORE PLANTS. We recently bought 2 small tin Bath type tubs which needed planting up, which is today's task. They are both now complete and Sheila is a very happy bunny. As is usual when I visit this nursery, I bought too many plants, but at only £1 each, it did not break the bank, so a few more will go in another pot, the rest will go in the garden. The weather here is cloudy and dull and a lot cooler than during the week, makinnworkna little more pleasant. I am currently taking a break and I am sitting outside the workshop enjoying my muggertea. Stay safe, stay sane, enjoy whatever you have planned for the day, back later. RMweb Gold Popular Post Tony_S Posted July 24, 2021 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted July 24, 2021 (edited) Afternoon all. I wasn’t going to but I have driven to Enfield with Aditi to see MiL. The A10 exit from the M25 is closed this weekend. I would have just carried on to the next exit but the sat nav and Google maps were showing large delays. So,we went M25, M11 south then the North Circular to the A10 then through Enfield suburbia until we emerged somewhere near MiL’s residence. Leaving a space so as not to grid lock traffic seems to get the driver behind horn happy in this part of London. Going home should be easier as that slip road to the M25 is open. As far as I am concerned if ERs want to mention sports they have participated in or watched it is fine. I am not particularly sporty myself but quite like to know what other people like. Jumping off the Mickey 2-5 at J26 (Waltham Abbey) is often a good alternative, as that gives an easy route thru' Waltham Cross and up to the A10 not far away. In other news: Bear has removed yesterday's handiwork, aka the Cornice from the wall units and applied some white paint to parts of the cut edges/joints on the cornice moulding - I'm hoping that it'll make the joints less visible once assembled. We'll see. I've also fitted the RCD Isolation switch for the dishwasher, which was a right p1g of a job. First I discovered that the dry lining leccy back-box wouldn't fit in the previously big enough hole in the plasterboard, thanks to the handiwork of the plasterer - so the hole had to be enlarged. Then I discover that the thickness of the plaster in that area was making it difficult to secure the BB with the little "wings" that secure it. Sorted, after inventing suitable new words. Then the stiffness of the two 2.5mm cables (supply & load) inside the BB were being a p1g when it came to wiring up the RCD. Sorted, after more new words. Then I discover that the two screws supplied were too short to secure the RCD to the BB. Sorted, after yet more new words and a visit into Beamland (aka the Loft) to find longer securing screws. Derek the Dishwasher now has power - but Bear has no dishwasher salt so it looks like dishpan paws will remain for a few days yet..... I should be doing more in the kitchen now, but at the moment I have a "can't be ar5ed" feeling which may well develop into full-blown snooze mode..... 16 2

Just out of curiosity, what did you have in mind, a race over 100m while competitors eat cake or competitors eating a cake 100m long or in diameter () ? The former could be an interesting spectator sport. Can we discuss an alternative Olympic programme? I'll see Bear's 100m cake-eating race with a 100m pogo stick event (with all competitors required to hold a mouthful of water over the full distance without swallowing or 'ejecting' this) and raise him relay wheelbarrow races, played in fancy dress, natch... 3

RMweb Premium Popular Post 45156 Posted July 24, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 24, 2021 Afternoon All Late on parade by a day - mainly due to much use of laptop for "proper" reasons - Proper indeed - this is a proper reason as far as I'm concerned. But house hunting comes first, and I must say I have to agree with that. So all I can offer is the most sincere generic greetings. G word was uttered this morning, after an unexpected trip to the vet. as Lily has now started to show her annual symptoms of Harvest Mite https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trombiculidae which are nasty little critters, so we had to get some frontline spray. We couldn't get to see Helen as she was fully booked - and there were only her and a nurse on duty, as the head receptionist has been pinged for the second time and the other has been working all her shifts in addition to her own. So she was having an enforced (by the practice) day off. Lily is booked in for Monday to see Helen, and to get her prescription of Apoquel. A6 tomorrow, weather permitting, and may well be back after that. Regards to All Stewart 1
RMweb Premium Popular Post Gwiwer Posted July 24, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 24, 2021 On parade after a storm-disturbed night and s consequentially-lethargic pre-lunch. It’s now bright though very humid albeit with fewer degrees of Celsius than of late. The intended trip to Sissinghurst did not occur. Neither of us was up for it. The weather looked fuggy and gloomy. There were drips falling out of the gloom. Another day will do. Of marathons I know something. I ran the London three times and for reasons which elude me I’d love to give it another go. Hippos and Bears take note. LDC would be a very welcome addition to the official and ad-hoc refreshments offered along the way. Never one to be in contention for medals I have at least competed in the same race as the world’s elite even if my best time of 3h 57m is almost double the world record! And I do have the finisher’s medal given to all who complete the course. The other sort of Marathon hasn’t tasted the same since the wrappers mis-spelled their name as “Snickers” Taking advantage of a sunny interval with muggercoffy on the lawns and the Doha flight has just gone over. How long, I wonder, until Dr. SWMBO is allowed to return home and visit her family. And how long until I am allowed to visit the Land of the Great BBQ? I might have to have a sneaky one here because cooking inside in summer is just too warm. Which is why the Aussies don’t. Stay well. 13 1 4

True, but not so today. J26 was not moving either. My satnav and Google maps were in agreement about which way to go. My satnav was giving quite accurate information, there must have been a lot of other Land Rovers and Jaguars sharing traffic information.

simontaylor484
Evening all Bad nights sleep last night although it was cooler. Had a passing visit from Flying Scotsman this morning watched from bedroom window an route Derby to Carlisle didnt see much due to trees on embankment. We invested in an air cooler last year its a fan which you add water to a tank you can add ice packs similar to the boards that go in a cool box. 17
Popular Post simontaylor484
I have mainly been doing garden jobs. I have dropped some breeze blocks ones lawn edging on the upper part of the lawn which will be returned eventually. I have had the blocks in stock since we moved into the house. They were destined for the skip as the developers were leaving the site i asked if i could have them. I made 3 runs with the car most were used as footings for the decking. I also got half a ton of building sand which was used in the lavender bed and to raise the lawn cutting down the expense of top soil
simontaylor484
I have also been cutting some of the old deck boards into stakes to prop up the aforementioned lavender. I was going to use garden canes but i thought it would be wasteful not to use what may end up as waste. I also have a new doggy fence to make to stop the dog from going down the alley between our garden and the alley that gets to the back of the houses. I am hoping to use as many of the scrap boards as possible.
RMweb Premium Popular Post PhilJ W Posted July 24, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 24, 2021 The honeysuckle in the council shrubbery is beginning to flower. I hasn't always been there, when I first moved in over thirty years ago there was a honeysuckle by my front door. Then a few years later the honeysuckle started appearing in the council shrubbery. The one by my front door has since died but I hope to recover some seeds from its offspring for replanting. I intend to plant it at the edge of the garden where it will get more sun.

RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted July 24, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 24, 2021 A'noon. Mad rush this morning, so I have a note to excuse me. No doubt tomorrow will be much the same, SWMBO in whirling dervish mode. A cool 15c start here soon turned in to another roaster, we had a trip out in the van to points south, almost all the way south in fact. It is still too hot to sit out in the garden, this is just not Fraggle Rock weather at all. Brother...oh dear.....well I have noting against him bar his choice of wife. And until such time as he removes her from the family I will have nothing to do with them, and have not done so for about 25 years. I note she is currently Mayor of our home town, I cannot think of anyone less appropriate, lets leave it at that.
