RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted September 12, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 12, 2023 Good morning everyone I looked out of the back door window when I came downstairs this morning to see what the weather was, it’s raining, pah! So, there won’t be any work done on the workshop today, what I will do is make a start putting away all the power tools that are no longer needed for the remaining work. These are currently stored in the cupboard that I repaired earlier in the year, the contents of which are presently cluttering up the cellar. I’ll also take the bits for the cellar fireplace surround and the window sill to the cellar and perhaps give them a coat of top coat. Back later. So there have been a lot of non cutting runs as I struggle back up the slope to gain height…before turning to attack again. It is the turning at the bottom of each run, with the momentum that I’ve built up, desperately trying to reduce speed before attempting each turn and trying not to role it. Loads of fun. One thing occurs to me…..I haven’t tried it after a few beers yet. But with bonfire season upon us again already I suspect it won’t be long before I final loose my inhibitions or final grip on reality and give it ago. I can confidently state right here and now that Mrs Grizz’s levels of sympathy following just such an event will be difficult to measure as I don’t think that there exists a unit of measurement that can accurately record data that low. 🤣 I am sorry but this still sounds like a rollover accident waiting to happen. 14 1

I would agree but for the fact that so far I’ve learnt to lean into the bent and go with the ride. Ah it takes me back years and years, to when I wasn’t such an ….erm….’an upstanding pillar of the community’…..to blatting bikes back from late night lock-ins at various pubs in deepest sleepy Sussex. So far past the cusp of legality that you almost met it coming the other way! ….Ah happy days. Sadly quite a few that did it are no longer with us. But it was a quieter time, with much much less traffic and I was an idiot amongst idiots. Ahem….😬…..meanwhile back at the farm I’m just enjoying a last ‘Kipper Tie’ to quote an old friend from Brum, then I’ll be off to the paddock. Wish me luck.
RMweb Premium Popular Post southern42 Posted September 12, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 12, 2023 (edited) ' morning all from red dragon land. Wet, day two... Some more pics from my exploratory walk on Sunday. Back in open country...and more sign posts. and a bit of climbing...and, yes, I did have boots on! This is as far as I went. I discovered, later, that the footpath continues (right to left) round the end of the golf course, where the the River Llugwy runs and joins the River Conwy (off to the right), and back into town - there lies a future venture, then! But there is still the return walk and not too much dilly dallying to get back to the museum for one o'clock lunch. By this time I was carrying the brolly - just in case! Note the tell tale rings on the water! A lot of lovely vegetation around... But my favourite on the day...did I taste? Let me see! Hmmm! Oooooh! They were sweeeeeeeet! Back into the tunnel. Then I met a lady with camera-with-zoom-lens on tripod - and here's me just using the 'fone's zoom feature. I expect her pic of the heron will be so much better! Ah! Light at the end of the tunnel! Onward through the church yard. Up the hill. A quick glance at the closed Sappers Suspension Bridge. And a quick look inside the church from the doorway (not too close, mind - pollen about!) And a quick look back before heading across the road to the Museum in time for lunch. Close up of the colourful poster. A good walk. RMweb Premium Popular Post PhilJ W Posted September 12, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 12, 2023 Morning all from Estuary-Land. It was raining this morning, just started about nine, its now stopped but its made it very muggy, thunderstorms are predicted. The temperature according to the thingy at the bottom of the screen started at 20 C. this morning, dropped to 19, rose to 21 and is now showing 20. The builder has also been watching the weather forecasts so is not working today.
RMweb Gold Tony_S Posted September 12, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 12, 2023 We had a light shower early this morning. Aditi assumed it was going to rain all day but it stopped. I have cut both lawns (that is an exaggeration really, two grassy areas containing other assorted self planted vegetation. As I had done the lawn cutting, Aditi is wielding her secateurs. This is sensible as I have been known to prune the wrong plant, or the right plant the wrong way. Thunderstorms with rain are still forecast for later this afternoon, but not on the AccuWeather app. Very different to the BBC forecast.
RMweb Premium polybear Posted September 12, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 12, 2023 (edited) Bear here....... A morning of prep work - fascia board sanded, de-dusted, wiped clean with white spirit then a few very minor areas given a coat of primer. Tick. I also filled the small ding in one of the window ledges - the filler is a type that needs to be mixed first (it smells like car body filler) which is a bit of a pain; it works very well but has next to buggerall working time before starting to set, which an even bigger pain. RMweb Premium Popular Post Gwiwer Posted September 12, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 12, 2023 Afternoon all, Still alive here, still inhabiting the Hill of Strawberries which is more like a Mountain of Boxes right now. Another sticky day at the House of Fun and one which had more people than I can remember seeing for several years attempting to reach Waterloo. In the Pre-Covid era we often had the platform five deep from around 07.30 until 08.45 with far from everyone able to board the first - often not even the second - train. Today was like that. This afternoon's task is to print out the "Last Rick Week" notices which advertise the details of the farewell drinks. Whilst I don't actually retire so far as the business is concerned until 29th my last active day will be the 22nd with the rest taken as leave and used to shuttle stuff down to the Distant (Signal) West whilst still being entitled to free train travel. But first it is time to top up the caffeine content of the alcohol system. Cheers. 11
RMweb Premium The White Rabbit Posted September 12, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 12, 2023 Afternoon all, A dull and damp morning here, more or less as predicted, also cooler than it's been recently. I usually look at both the Met Office and the BBC forecasts and these often differ. And if in doubt or it's important, I check the rain radar site - as well as being old fashioned and take a look out of the window. Round these parts, the BBC usually overforecasts rain. I've had to stay in for appointments and parcels anyway, so not much grumbling done. I've been working through the emails again. Today, I offer a few thoughts on alcohol, firstly some warnings: Liquor manufacturers have accepted the government's suggestion that the following warning labels be placed immediately on all varieties of alcohol containers: ~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~ WARNING: The consumption of alcohol may leave you wondering what the hell happened to your bra and knickers. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~ WARNING: The consumption of alcohol may make you think you are whispering when you are not. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~ ~~~~~~~~ ~~~~ WARNING: The consumption of alcohol is a major factor in dancing like a retard. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~ WARNING: The consumption of alcohol may cause you to tell your friends over and over again that you love them. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~ WARNING: The consumption of alcohol may cause you to think you can sing ~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~ WARNING: The consumption of alcohol may lead you to believe that ex-lovers are really dying for you to telephone them at four in the morning. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~ ~~~~~~~~ ~~~~ WARNING: The consumption of alcohol may make you think you can logically converse with members of the opposite sex without spitting. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~ WARNING: The consumption of alcohol may create the illusion that you are tougher, smarter, faster and better looking than most people. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~ WARNING: The consumption of alcohol may lead you to think people are laughing WITH you. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~ WARNING: The consumption of alcohol may cause pregnancy. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~ ~~~~~~~~ ~~~~ WARNING: The consumption of alcohol may be a major factor in getting your backside kicked or your nose punched. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~ WARNING: the crumsumpten of alcohol mae mack yoo tink yew kan tpye reel gode. And if that has worried anyone, a counter argument suggesting why alcohol can be good for you: Well, you see it's like this Fred. A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. When the herd's hunted, it's the slowest and weakest ones which are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd and species as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group improves by the regular culling of the weakest members. Now we know the doctors say consumption of alcohol kills brain cells. But if it attacks the slowest and weakest cells first, then regular consumption must be like a training programme for the brain, clearing out the weaker cells and making the brain faster and more efficient. So that Fred, is why you always feel smarter after a few beers. Well, that's alright then... 10 1

Hroth
Ever since the BBC dropped the Met office for a lower quoting commercial organisation, their weather forecasting, both live and in app has been atrociously inaccurate. RMweb Premium Andy Hayter Posted September 12, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 12, 2023 The most accurate I have found is the Norwegian weather forecast. www.yr.no You can change the language to English and it happily forecasts for our miniscule commune in France and will certainly forecast for the UK. 3 8

RMweb Gold Tony_S Posted September 12, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 12, 2023 The Norwegian weather prediction and “now” for here doesn’t match what is outside . Most of the others are wrong too. I am sure that the weather outside our immediate area is as forecast though. Our very local weather is strange. 13 1 1
RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted September 12, 2023 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted September 12, 2023 (edited) This morning I got out into the garden and spent just over 2 hours getting it ready for the men tomorrow. The plants which needed moving have been dealt with, others cut back and several I no longer want have gone in the garden bin which is now full, it gets emptied tomorrow. All I have to do is remember to move the car off the drive first thing tomorrow - it will probably go on the pavement opposite which isn't used for walking on. I had my usual salad for lunch then tidied up a bookshelf before settling to read for a while. The journey to the podiatrist was easy, it looked as though there was a queue at the roundabout outside town but in fact the traffic was moving well so I arrived ten minutres early. Unusually I had to park all of 10 yards from their door instead of right outside. Coming back was very easy, for once all the traffic knew what it was doing and got a move on. My feet feel a lot better, now the nails are cut I am sure my shoes feel more comfortable! Next will be tea, after that I haven't decided what to do for the rest of the evening but I doubt it will be very exciting. I usually just look at the Met Office forecast which is usually reasonably accurate. Sometimes I watch the local forecast on ITV, it too is usually about right. RMweb Premium Popular Post Barry O Posted September 12, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 12, 2023 (edited) News from the front... After my medical success this morning her indoors and myelf navigated to St James' Hospital of the Leeds University Health Care Trust. So far, so good. Got to the right building(Chancellors wing ) and to the right floor then..lost..no signs for direction. A passing nurse pointed us in the right direction.herself checked in then....... After half an hour a HCA rolled up to take us to the consultation room. Door was locked ..but,ever resourceful she used her pass tag to get in via another door. The lady consultant was very good. Apparently all discussions were going well when a very high reading in one test was flagged. This says "check pancreas.... now" apparently but everyone reckons it's not the big C so the plan is Undertake an MRICP ASAP just to check it's all OK. October 19th..keyhole surgery to remove what is hoped to be a benign cyst and about15l (well that's the consultants figure in their sweep stake for charity) of fluid. Sent home! Sounds good to us anyway. Ta for all of your thoughts and support. Baz Edited September 12, 2023 by Barry O 1

RMweb Premium Popular Post polybear Posted September 12, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 12, 2023 Bear here..... This arvo's fun(?) consisted of a Bean counting session, requiring much use of various websites plus something called "xhell" or summat like that in order to keep track of the latest proceedings. That's a Tick. Part-way thru' the fun I received a call from the Buddy that does his best to keep us all in order during Muddle Engineering Evenings; it seems that all such evenings this side of Chrimbo are cancelled due to elf' n' safety n' all that (the Buddy in question has just had an op on a poorly paw so is not yet considered to be in A1 Cake Scoffin' Form). Rattin' Piggin' Turdycurses. It's hoped that things may return to normal post-Chrimbo, but we suspect there may well be some pretty big "IF's" involved. Poo. The Met office model runs partly from actual reports filed from qualified meteorological observers like myself and automated locations, to specified standards. I’m not sure what data collation the BBC supplier uses, but it’s certainly noticeable that the accuracy has fallen dramatically since the change of contract, their bloke is probably not using the right type of seaweed. I use the met office website and for quick reference for Uk I use https://en.allmetsat.com/metar-taf/united-kingdom-ireland.php?icao=EGGW This is an aviation product, but once you know the decodes for airports and the weather, it’s an accurate source of shorthand for current weather, and reasonably accurate twelve hour forecasts. 2 1 15

Slight or moderate, becoming smooth or slight for a time except in east Sole and southwest Fastnet. Showers then mainly fair. Good Basically its windspeed, sea state, the weather (precipitation, etc) and ends with visibility Currently the west coast of Ireland is due a pasting...
