RMweb Premium Gwiwer Posted February 12 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 12 This morning's post seems to have vanished into the dark matter of cyberspace. May I repeat my greetings for Moanday, Bin-day and what ever else it is for you and wish you all the best. It is make-data-readable day here with the book and there's a lot of other "paperwork" to be done for clubs, various and in pursuit of my pension funds. But first it's Muggercoffy. 12 1

RMweb Premium Popular Post southern42 Posted February 12 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 12 ' morning all from red dragon land. A big yellow ball of fire is lighting up our little bit of the world this morning. A big job on for it today, though, as it is only 3.6C out there. @45156 Wishing you all the very best, Stewart. Sorry to hear you have gone through so much. I hope you get well soon and thanks for joining us again. Toot on the flute. I am not sure I would be saying this so soon, even though the goal was there, but I got through the goalposts and started the second half of the song. Not only that but with a right banger - I found I could play it at the tutor's speed! So a new target yet again getting the right speed for the rest of the song, as well as bringing the first half of the song up to speed. <<gulp!>> It seems the key to all this is playing really relaxed which is what I find most difficult when learning something new! Something must have happened when I took the plunge because I overcame some really awkward combinations of fingering! ION I mentioned awhile back going round in circles on the phone over several months to sort out a problem that arose between two organisations. Thanks to all the assistance we had during this process, I had a phone call on Friday offering me an appointment for the next day. Job done. Now, hopefully, I can get on with the rest of my life, including some muddling! Time for a mugadecaf. Take care. Be good. Dal ati - keep at it. RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted February 12 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 12 (edited) The sun is brining shightly and it looks like it's here to stay for a while. Surgery* visited and bloods etc done and my feet were inspected. It seems I still have two. Just got to wait for the blood results now to see if I'm still pre diabetic or have gone over to the dark side! Also Cholesterol and liver function done as well so all digits crossed for the right numbers to come up. * Actually Portakabin today for the tests whilst the surgery is still undergoing a major rebuild, it's taken about a year so far. Only managed a mile and a quarter walk as The Hip complained about the exercise...now home and supping a muggatea. Might make it to The Shed shortly. We remember that event. Being holders of UK Food Hygiene Certificates the risk is something we are always aware of when buying and serving fresh fruit. It's there with other fresh foods too but many of those would be served cooked which can in some cases lessen the risk. We were always taught never to refrigerate leftover rice and return to it another day. I don't mean "takeaway" rice but the stuff one normally buys dried and cooks at home. Eat it or bin it was the rule. Other high-risk items are tinned foods when part is used and the tin is then popped into the fridge for "later"; tomatoes are the worst offenders. Decant into an inert container such as a glass dish which has a well-fitting glass lid and keep for no more than 24 hours. To this day, having not been in a job where we serve food to customers for over 25 years, I am still assiduous with the "layering" of our fridge. Raw meat always and only on the bottom shelf. Dairy in the door. Veg in one crispa box (if it must be chilled at all), salads in the other. Opened jars etc at the top and short-life items such as cooked meal leftovers in the middle. Everything which we cook and freeze is labelled with its contents and "frozen on" date. All raw food is washed before use unless that would spoil it; I don't wash bread! Simple precautions. No-one is immune from food poisoning and sadly it can be lethal but we can all take good care of ourselves and of others we share with. 13 7

Grizz
Sorry Hroth, I just couldn’t resist, my thumbs just seemed to take over. Hope that all went well and that you are ok? Whatcha planning for lunch? I’ve got Curry Sild on rye bread (curried picked herrings). That’s the nice bit. Then I’ve got to take a load of meds, including a ton of Prednisone steroids, which are horrid. 🤮 1

Grizz
Presumably the East India Company chose the ‘Blowing from a Gun’ method of ‘Punishment as they wished to spare the sensibilities of the bloke who was to carry out the flogging? Also if they had more than one poor soul to flog to death on any given day, the ‘flogging bloke’ (for want of a better job title) would be bleedin knackered by the end of it and it would have taken ages. Yes how much more efficient and quick it must have been just to turn them into pink mist in a fraction of a second. Plus those in charge would probably have made to use of this activity for the gunners to practice rapid fire reloading. But you would still have to give some consideration to where this was to be carried out, as generally you can’t carry out gun or cannon work indoors. Not unless you are planning to couple it with a fairly major remodelling project. You’d need a reasonable distance for the cannon ball to travel, once it had completed its primary purpose. Edited February 12 by Grizz I give up this game with predictive text….. 1 4 5

Also Surinam, ceded to the Dutch at the same time. Most summaries of the Treaty of Breda focus on the swap of Manhattan for Surinam. Quote In 1667, the Treaty of Breda ended the conflict in favor of the Dutch. The Dutch did not press their claims on New Netherland but did demand control over the valuable sugar plantations and factories captured by them that year on the coast of Surinam, giving them full control over the coast of what is now Guyana and Suriname. The actual story is more complex. Manhattan would be captured by the Dutch in 1673 but returned to England in the Treaty of Westminster (1674). I dislike it trying to correct URLs, allowing gibberish to remain or to correct correctly spelt words. When Aditi was writing her doctoral thesis, at first I would hear her tell the PC off when Word suggested her sentences were too long or that hermeneutic was not a word. Instead of creating a special dictionary she just turned off style adviser and spellcheck. I'm reminded once more of this don't play it if easily offended by language but it makes me chuckle ..... 3 hours ago, New Haven Neil said: My N gauge friend (he's very small) here - a US modeller - is the secretary of the Rolls-Royce Motor club here. He's terribly posh, having being the manager of a private bank, the sort that deals with the folk iD is talking about, and err, EIIR, that's a clue, but he puts up with us with good grace. I even got a go in his R-R! Some of his pals are in that social group, and by simple observation it is obvious they don't buy clothes from M&S. There are some very, very, rich people on this rock. I'm reading an interesting book at the moment concerning the activities of Mr Royce, Mr Rolls and numerous others that culminated in the R-R Merlin engine. ("Merlin" by Graham Hoyland) I quite fancy a Silver Ghost* but can't quite find enough spare beans. * A proper one, not one of those garish, modern abusers of the name. ION Out on the RD on Saturday for another run over to Woburn for a caffeine based drink before getting slightly moist just as it was time to go home. Fortunately it didn't come to much because, as you know, Puppers doesn't do wet! Yesterday Mrs Puppers and I tried to go for a walk along the Great Ouse at Great Barford. It didn't go well because, well, the Great Ouse is currently everywhere 🤣. It was a shame that we couldn't get onto the bridge that overlooks the weir. I suspect the water's flow rate would have been extremely impressive. I suspect that there wasn't a lot of difference between the levels either side actually. We thought we'd cut our losses and go and have lunch at the Danish Camp. It was more like the Danish Ark but it was still functioning and lunch was enjoyed. When we went back to the car park some bright Herbert had neatly parked their monstrous, new modern vehicle in the gateway from the car park to the footpath. The precision with which they'd lined it up between the two "NO PARKING" cones had to be seen to be believed. I won't name the brand of vehicle as I have no wish to offend anyone. The only clue is probably the fact that I've actually mentioned the incident at all ..... Apparently I might be visited this afternoon by a chap who might want to relieve me of some pre-war BSA spares. It would be nice if I could recover some of the money expended getting the old Beeza back on the road. UPDATE: I have been visited by a member of the local VMCC. He has left with a phone full of BSA B21 photographs, a B21 engine push rod tunnel and a B21 engine tappet cover plate. He seemed please but I don't think I'm going to get rich quick selling Beeza spares! Never mind, hopefully another one will be saved and back on the road soon.
