A lot of the other buildings were demolished. I've done a bit more Googling for info about the site at Betchworth and found some details about the pictured kiln , it's actually a Smidth kiln , the Dietzsch kiln is lower down the site and mostly overgrown in the Google shot , but this page gives more detail on the positions . RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted March 26 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 26 (edited) After dealing with groceries and some other bits and pieces I sat down and promptly fell asleep. I woke just in time to get coffee. The post came, one letter turned out to be an Easter card from friends I always send one to. Despite knowing Easter was coming in terms of church services I had forgotten things like Easter cards - I seem to have lost a few weeks recently. So I went into town and bought cards, they got posted later on. While I was out I called at the barber's but his shop was closed with a notice on it saying he reopens after Easter. Doubtless he is having a holiday again. After lunch I did a "simple" puzzle, the final and longest word was "Bafflegab" which is a real word meaning obscurity of language in official documents. I'd never come across it before so had to look up the meaning. As I write this I am watching Gilda, an old film with Rita Hayworth. This evening will again be book etc. I feel a little less tired, thank goodness, but I think I shall not do much until after Easter. RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted March 26 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 26 More news on the Baltimore bridge disaster. Apparently the ship sent out a Mayday call four minutes before the collision stating that they were out of control due to engine failure. There were eight workers on the bridge repairing potholes and six are still missing. The bridge authorities closed the bridge as soon as they got the message about the ship out of control and the workers were notified. 1

The problem with a cantilever bridge is once it's unbalanced it all falls down as it's no longer in balance.. It seems the Ship's Captain put out a mayday due to loss of power - this gave time for traffic across the bridge to be stopped; unfortunately there were workers on the Bridge fixing potholes - though 2 were rescued, with 6 missing. 3

RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted March 26 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 26 Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. I got a call from my GP surgery this afternoon saying I will have an appointment with a urologist in about four weeks time. Thankfully there seems to be no urgency so it seems its just to check out everythings OK. I also asked to book an examination by the physiotherapist re. the arthritis, he/she is fully booked until May so I may have to wait.

RMweb Premium Popular Post polybear Posted March 26 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 26 (edited) Bear here..... Another day at the Hospice - delivering to a shop, then travelling in the van to attend a "donations day" (well, 2 hours) sat in a car park accepting donations from people bringing them to us by car; we received just under 100 donations in that time, so not a bad turnout. Post din dins** and it was receiving yet more donations - but this time it was back at the warehouse. **Rumour has it that A Certain Bear may have been assaulted by a low-flying donut during this time. It's a Jungle out there....... ION...... Bear got home to Bear Towers to be greeted by an Amazon Parcel sitting on the doorstep (at least the Courier had made an effort to hide it out of the way this time) - so much for changing the settings in Bear's Amazon Account to arrange for delivery to nearby Neighbours in the event I'm not in. There may be a Rant there...... Bear gone.... Edited March 26 by polybear 15

RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted March 26 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 26 Evening all from Estuary-Land. Dinner tonight was toad-in-the-hole followed by bread and butter pudding. Watched the program about Indian hill railways on Channel 4, I think I've seen it before but I'd never seen last nights program. Now to check the other threads I follow on RMweb and Farcebook.

RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted March 26 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 26 Evening Awl, Drove to the MRC, swmbo said her car was making strange noises so I had to use that.. 4.5 inch ground clearance on a bumpy potholed road.. Parts of it have deep ditches either side of the single track road, other bits have the walls of houses forming one edge of the road, and big fences the other. 15 to 20mph max... Though legally a large section is actually 60mph rated... For added fun on the way back it was raining... MRC.. um, not good, the night was wasted what I did was a failure, more research on that required.. 4 sets of receipts handed to me for payment, that will add to tomorrow's end of year financial work.. Muggachoccy not gone, must order some more though, then research the problem.. good night Awl. 6
RMweb Premium Popular Post Gwiwer Posted March 26 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 26 Bother. I am sneezing for Cornwall at the moment. It might be a cold but I don't have all the cold-like symptoms. The other option, given that it does not produce two red lines on the test strip (remember those?) is that this is some sort of allergy to a laundry liquid we bought recently. Not our usual brand but the only one they had in stock when we needed some. I'm on watch in the morning. I'll see how I feel. And how well the eyes are working. I can always call that off. The book has been tooth-combed by proof-readers and is receiving very favourable comments. Only a couple of minor tweaks have been suggested so far. It should be with reviewers next month and off to print at much the same time. 24

I am coughing, sneezing and feeling very yuck. I haven’t had a proper cold for years, making up for it now. I don’t think it is allergies, the person I sat next to at the restaurant last Friday is unwell too. Aditi has kept her distance from me today as she has to,go for a biopsy tomorrow. As I found out recently the local dermatology service,is,very efficient.
