Popular Post iL Dottore
3 hours ago, Dave Hunt said: I've had a couple of days absence due to a medical hiccup. All was well following my operation then on Saturday I felt a pain on the inside of my right thigh, which got worse over the weekend and felt as thought there was a very nobbly varicose vein underneath that was hard to the touch and the area was somewhat inflamed. On Monday morning I therefore called the hospital and one of the registrars told me to see my GP immediately. I did so and got an appointment within the hour at which blood tests were taken and the leg examined. The blood test results were in by 1800 and indicated that I could have a DVT so I was told to report to the duty GP doctors at Telford hospital to have an ultrasound scan as a matter of some urgency. After being examined yet again, though, I was told that there was no-one on duty at night who could do it so I was given an anti-coagulant injection and told to go this morning to another hospital unit for a scan. When I got to the hospital I was told to expect to be there for several hours and for starters went through the sort of rigmarole with blood pressure, etc. that is usually the precursor to an admission. After a lengthy wait I was a bit surprised when they then went through exactly the same examination and blood tests as had been done yesterday so I queried what was going on and when could I expect the ultrasound scan? The reply was that I was being assessed for eligibility to have one so I pointed out that yesterday no fewer than three doctors had decided following examinations and blood tests that I definitely did need one so I was examined by yet another doctor and it was finally decided that yes, I did need an ultrasound scan but they were booked up until Thursday so I was given a prescription for some anticoagulants, sent home and told to report back on Thursday at 1145. You couldn't make it up. Dave What the **** are they playing at? My GP has an ultrasound AND an x-ray suite in his office (though he does refer if basic ultrasound and/or x-ray reveal anything needing more sophisticated assessment). OK, so your GP may not have an ultrasound machine, but a basic ultrasound for a DVT (been there, done that, got the low molecular weight heparin and warfarin!) takes about 15 - 20 minutes. Which means - even with office hours - an 8 hour day would see 24 - 32 patients/day scanned. In many places around here hours are 07:00 - 18:00, with mealtime coverage The possibility of a DVT is not a "take a few aspirin and come back later" situation (although aspirin does have anti clotting effects). Perhaps you should print out the attached (https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/16911-deep-vein-thrombosis-dvt) highlight the relevant passages and really get shirty with them. Ask them if they realise that there are internationally recognised "gold standards" for most treatments and what you're experiencing ain't even "cheap plastic standard"... 4 7 1 8

RMweb Premium TheQ Posted April 9 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 9 Evening Awl, Just horizontal drizzle here. So dry patches on the roads where trees and houses get in the way.. Just as I turned to leave the living room for the landrover my right hip went click again.. been quite painful all evening. Left knee didn't like pressing the clutch, right ankle has joined in just for the fun of it. Pink pills for supper. MRC went surprisingly well, task I'd decided on worked, also handed over the MRC accounts on a usb stick to the chairman, he can peruse them for mistokes before sending them off. Parts arrived for SWMBO's loom, 50:50 chance of having it completed ( except for painting) tomorrow morning before she gets back from her art group.. that would be worth many brownie points. Flood warning map has reduced the levels, had yesterday's occured we'd have been on an island, today it would just be a long way round to anywhere. 16

Most secondary schools kept the money, and in my opinion set IT provision back by many years. We felt the same ‘at the sharp end’. By withdrawing from central support the school put me in the position of (in no particular order), supporting and training all of the school staff (including some admin staff) in their own and curriculum use of IT, running the IT/Computer studies department and so responsible for organising the computer teaching within the school, managing the IT provision within school I.e being the network manager and IT technician and responsible for purchasing. Oh, and I was teaching a full timetable of classes too. It did for me in the end. When I eventually stepped back my role was split between four other people. The worst thing about it was I felt personally responsible and upset that I couldn’t do it all as well I wanted to.

RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted April 9 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 9 Good evening everyone What an awful day it’s been today, rain, lots of it and very windy too! I’m glad I decided to stay in the workshop this morning. Although, after dinner, I went to Costco, as we were running very low on a few items that we buy from there. Anyway, back to this morning. More progress has been made on the 3 way point. Almost completed the soldering, I’ve just got one check rail to fit. I’d already fitted this, but it was too close to the running rail and the truck wouldn’t pass through it, so I removed it. It just needs refitting a little bit further away from the running rail. I’ll do that tomorrow. Once I’m happy with how the truck runs, I’ll fit the 2 operating arms, once that’s done, the points finished , which will be a big✔️.

RMweb Premium Gwiwer Posted April 9 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 9 The wind has gone. The sun was here but has also now gone. We are promised fist and mog tomorrow but I shall believe that when the morning arrives. In the meantime here's proof there was sunlight earlier. RMweb Premium BR60103 Posted April 10 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 10 I often wondered if our French/German teacher ran through the school's paper allotment all by himself. Class started with a verb chart -- conjugate a given verb in all the known tenses. The texts we were given for reading were accompanied by all sorts of notes on the vocabulary and I forget what else. I remember my father in the 50s making duplicates on a little device that had a gelatin surface with the info on it and paper had to be pressed onto it.
RMweb Premium Popular Post jjb1970 Posted April 10 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 10 I hope Dave Hunt is feeling better! Unfortunately there's a culture of 'it's free what are you complaining about' when it comes to the NHS. And because the NHS is pretty much a form of religious faith rational discussion is difficult. Of course it isn't free, free at point of delivery yes but it accounts for a significant part of payments levied by the government. During the pandemic they botched my appendectomy and gave me a very awful time with an infection that could have seen me off. I was quite sanguine about the mistake they made as it happens and I have made plenty of mistakes, what annoyed me was nobody in the hospital apologised and they got very defensive and shifty when I asked why the second hospital discharge letter contradicted the first.

RMweb Premium jjb1970 Posted April 10 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 10 I know it's a personal preference, and paper still has it's place, but it amazes me how many people still print off reams of paper when it is so easy to work with soft copies now. You can add notes and annotate in word, highlight stuff etc. I know people who travel around the world carrying what must be a kilo or more of paper in addition to their PC or tablet as they still print off all the documents. 8
RMweb Premium jamie92208 Posted April 10 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 10 Good moaning g from the Charente. We are meant to be having dryer weather this week. I will find out in due course. Shopping then some trimming got done. The new hen hut has been ordered to replace the ramshackle one that was falling apart. It is due for delivery tomorrow so today's task is to clean out Cluckingham palace, we plan to get some new birds in June. Apart from that the day is unspecified. Regards to all and of course Sundry. I presume you are talking about larger documents rather than a boarding pass and itinerary. A paper boarding pass or ticket can be lost, but depending on what apps you are willing to load, can be much more convenient. I recently had electronic tickets to an indoor sporting event. Every time I needed to present my ticket (which was much more often than I supposed*) the telephone had turned off, disconnecting the internet connection required to access the tickets via a web portal. Plus the ticket scanner was very fussy reading an electronic image. A paper ticket would have been sooo much more convenient. * Perhaps four times to get to my seat. Without my big monitor, I prefer to read documents on paper - though I would rarely need to do this enroute and never print long documents (of more than a few pages). I still prefer to read printed books and travel with them. Undoubtedly some sort of tablet has many advantages compared with carrying around a doorstop book, but I'm no longer any sort of road warrior. 13
