Round & Flat top JJA Autoballaster 38-211/2

Great catch there William, that livery seems to have been quite shortlived!

To kinda tie up the history I think those 10 are the ones that were later patched into Carillion.

Before that there were also 10 different GTRM ones in blue, which was the prototype set (one of them also wore Transrail logo's for a bit as a demonstrator) - that set worked with a Tiphook piggyback wagon loaded with generators as it's power wagon and the blue wagons retained their RIV series numbers from being KPA, that prototype set of 10 were amongst the last wagons rebuilt into normal Railtrack JJAs

Martin,

Any idea how long they lasted in Carillion livery? I remember seeing one wagon in Carillion livery at Haymarket back in 2006/07, but that was the only time I saw one in this livery and I knew nothing about it at the time. I can't see Bachmann producing any of these short lived liveries, but you never know.

Regards

David

A well knowm Merseyside retailer is showing 38-211 flat top JJA's in stock.

Does this mean that another release of 38-212 round top is near?

Cheers,

Mick

Hi David.

I believe all 10 of the carillion branded ones are still branded as such, they now seem to work mixed randomly with ex Railtrack ones.

Carillion 12901/2/5/7/9 mixed in with 5 other ex-Railtrack JJA's just passed my house on 6K05 Carlisle-Crewe.

Also included was generator 12935 which has flat sides and flat top at the end opposite the genny - as do a few others. Need to have a go at that one day!

Cheers,

Mick

Thanks to all who posted photographs of JJA wagons carrying the Carillion livery and confirming that it was obviously not so short lived as I had assumed. Maybe Bachmann will produce a Carilion liveried version in 2013.

In the meantime, I assume that the GE Rail Services version they are producing for the Collector's Club really was a short lived livery? See http://Bachmann-collectorsclub.co.uk/products.php?id=2 or http://Bachmann-collectorsclub.co.uk/image_box.php?image=images_large/38-210K.jpg&id=173&Item=38-210K&width=700&height=246 for pictures.

bit of a bump for this thread...

do these autoballater rakes ever run with more than one generator wagon in a set, ie one at each end?

picked up a bargain gen set wagon and a single non gen wagon earlier, the shop has a gen set wagon on sale so im wondering whether to get it, alternativly can the gen sets be removed from the model to represent a non gen set unit?

Jim,

They usually run in sets of 5, with one generator wagon within the set (round or flat-top or any combo of them!) The generator is often, but not always, at the end of the five-set. (Unlike the semi-permanently coupled HQA's, where the genny is at the end)

There are odd maintenance moves of wagons that may involve gen or non-gen. I've seen a single and pairs of JJA's on my "local" infrastructure train (6K05).

Various Autoballasters have been at York for maintenance. http://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/gersautoballaster

A rake yesterday left with NR numbers, a new yellow strip and NR vinyl. For modellers no need to try to disguise a transfer! http://PaulBartlett.zenfolio.com/gersautoballaster/e704279d6

Edited as they were still there lunchtime today

Very interesting Paul, thanks for posting. I wonder how long it'll be before we see some of those from RS4 or newbryford..... :)

Question - how many did you see like that, when you say a rake was it a set of 5 or more than that? Love to see any other photos you took of them.
