Hello all,

as you can see I've changed the title to reflect what I'm doing at the moment.

I got my packet from Eileen's on Sat. so what do you get for the neck end of £40, at first glance not a lot!

post-8920-0-41255400-1343636374_thumb.jpg

The joy of opening up the packet. Lots of nice shiny metal.

Getting ready for the supports for the vertical extension pieces.

The first of the supports in place, these four at the ends also add strength to the end extensions.

post-8920-0-35406500-1343636692_thumb.jpg

The second and third ones in place, these are all made from 3 X 1.5mm T section brass. I'm going to have to give some thought to the placement of the vertical joint between the middle and end sections, so that I can get the best support for the top edge.

post-8920-0-16949200-1343636771_thumb.jpg

Four of the top side extensions cut out. Why I've photographed four when I've cut out six I don't know?

post-8920-0-65769300-1343636866_thumb.jpg

Who said railway modelling was a nice clean hobby? The state of my NEW black jeans after cutting the extensions out. So in the washer with them and in the bath with me.

Hello all,

a big thanks to all, over 50,000 hits to this thread.

Back onto the build, the first two top side extensions in place.

post-8920-0-18206200-1343720131_thumb.jpg

All six of them in place.

post-8920-0-36030300-1343720226_thumb.jpg

The floor infill's in place, I decided to use brass here as I'm thinking that it should give a bit more strength.

Using a trammel to strike the radius on the ends, at the moment I'm not to happy about how they're looking so I'm going to have another look at them after I've finished on here. Then it'll be cutting the ends off at angle to match the radius as the end plates follow the radius of the pit.

Hello all,

I forgot to put this photo up before. This is the same type as at Ranelagh.

post-8920-0-54196900-1343726149_thumb.jpg

Has anyone got a photo of the turntable at Ranelagh Bridge showing both ends of the table on the locking gear side or where you can see both handles? As my drawing only shows one set, but on this table there are two sets.

Any help or pointers much appreciated,

OzzyO.

Edit. for misspelling.

Yes it should be Ranelagh Bridge.

Hello all,

the ends have been cut off at an angle, to match the radius of the pit (I hope). Then it was onto marking out the sides, you can see the top edge line OK in this photo but not the bottom one very well. The bottom of the angle runs to the short white line just above the joint.

post-8920-0-32700200-1343804943_thumb.jpg

The top of the middle section marked out, the lines with the arrows by them are where the angles finish and the flat section starts.

post-8920-0-43766500-1343805043_thumb.jpg

The first section of 3.5 X 3.5mm L angle in place. I thought that I had enough of it when I started but this job eats metal, some was ordered on Mon. so with a bit of luck it'll be here today.

post-8920-0-98208100-1343805229_thumb.jpg

The top edge of the PCB cut and filed down to the top of the L angle.

post-8920-0-06711500-1343804851_thumb.jpg

One thing that I'm quit happy about is the amount of the joint on the angle sections that will be covered by the L angle. The next job will be to make a jig for cutting out the twenty four extensions for the under table girders.

Hello all,

I got the rest of the brass L angle yesterday so I'm carrying on with them before I do the extension pieces for the base girders. As the jig that I want to make for them is going to cut the angle at one end and the square end at the other end. So I've got a bit of working out to do on that one.

The first two L angles on the angle ends of the table sides.

post-8920-0-91273400-1343907579_thumb.jpg

To help align the inside and outside angles at the ends I've done this, all I've now got to do is to fit all four to clear the T sections and the uprights as well.post-8920-0-36708500-1343907674_thumb.jpg

The inside two top L angles in place. Just the four angles at the ends to sort out now.

More to follow.

Hello all,

Grasshopper, the marks on the angle on the angle are from my R.S.U. (resistance soldering unit), just a bit of burnt carbon. Glad that you've got the tickets, I will sort out how to meet up closer to the time, we normal go to 'Spoons' for breakfast as it's on the way from the station to the show. Not long now till September.

Martyn, yes it's Grasshopper's rail tickets for Telford.

Quit a big stage was reached yesterday on the table, more on that later.

The first two of the L angles on the angles. The inside L angles took a bit of time as each one had to be fitted around the top T support piece and the vertical support.

post-8920-0-27247500-1343981648_thumb.jpg

The PCB extension pieces cut off. So with a bit of luck that should be it cutting PCB and all the dust that it creates.

post-8920-0-07473800-1343981731_thumb.jpg

The table as it now stands.

How it was before all the madness started on it.

post-8920-0-61662600-1343982601_thumb.jpg

That should be the last of all the big jobs apart from the wheel supports, all the rest of the jobs are small just a lot of them.

Hello all,

the table is progressing well, but I have a surprise at the end of this message.

The parts cut out for four of the side supports.

post-8920-0-62006900-1344065295_thumb.jpg

All soldered together, the cut out at the top is to try and make them not so visible at the top.

post-8920-0-96336200-1344065381_thumb.jpg

All of them fitted in place, these ones have two angle supports on them these will come later.

post-8920-0-65786000-1344065457_thumb.jpg

One side with the two centre supports and the two lap plates in place, I've still to do the four for the inside.

post-8920-0-36480100-1344065501_thumb.jpg

This is the surprise all the under table girders are all set at different positions. So it will be finding out the two that are the "shortest" and then cutting all the rest back to that size.

post-8920-0-78092100-1344065594_thumb.jpg

The same sort of thing on the other side, so it looks like the under frame girders have been cut to the same lengths. So this side may be cut first.

post-8920-0-65996500-1344065211_thumb.jpg

The last two I was not expecting so I had not planed for it but when I get it sorted and the extension girder go on, all of them should be the same length.

The new supports are looking good. Seeing how it came apart I'm not surprised by the inaccuracy in the under floor girders.

More work for Oz, sorry mate!!!

It just goes with the turf mate, but on something like this! After all it's only like sleepers on the underside of the deck. All it would have taken was a jig to set them at the distance from the rails on the under side (top) with C/Ls on it and then set them square to it.

OzzyO.

PS. No I'm not going to take them all off before you think about it. No No NO.

Only you and several hundred others know that the resulting under-girders are likely to be too short.....

How would anyone know that the under girders will be to short, I have not told them that yet! But I have a cunning plan to sort that out!

So this is what I did!

post-8920-0-19425400-1344289662_thumb.jpg

I cut them all off to the angle at the bottom of the table, this I thought would / should give me a good starting point to sort them all out!!! All I have to do now is get them to look like this! If I can?

post-8920-0-22809600-1344290099_thumb.jpg

Work is under way to do this. But after a bad start on Sunday I'm a bit behind now on how I'm going to do it. Most of it's down to not having enough info. or drawings on the table. But it will be sorted out.

One thing that I'm having trouble finding is an etch for a 2' Dia. 6 spoke hand wheel, can anyone give me any pointers PLEASE. HELP.

OzzyO.

PS. just back from a good night at the M.R.C. so I'm in a good mood and ready to get stuck in to work in the morning. But I have a plan. I hope????????????????
