Hi Darren,

On my way to Ilfracombe now, it'll be the first time of seeing Torrington 'in the flesh', so really looking forward to it.

The only downside is that I've been asked to take my two nephews to the show, but I'll have them on choke chains!

It'll be good to catch up, & here's wishing you all the very best with your first show.

It's been a while since we've seen you at Barnstaple M.R.C,

Cheers buddy,

Rob ( a.k.a westcountryman )

Darren Fantastic layout! I saw it today at Ilfracombe, plus monopolised Richard's time a little :D

Really inspiring stuff - one thing that stands out in my mind is the gloriously cheery malachite Pacific on shed. Did the Maunsell Carriages play ball on the ACE in the end?

Cheers,

~ Gary

Myself and son Liam have been very fortunate to have a little running on Torrington today and thoroughly enjoyed our time today. Unfortunately we had to leave earlier in the day due to family commitments and would have wanted to stay longer.

Good to meet Matloughe and Exmoordave today as well.

Anyway, with access to the end of the layout, where it normally sits up against the wall at Darren's home, I took the opportunity for a few photos as below.

I think that Darren went away with a few things to think about for next time and now that Torrington has been on the road, perhaps the time has come to get a few more times .....

Hi Darren,

What can I say? Apart from absolutely cracking mate! You have created a layout without fault, so very well done pal.

I felt humbled & honoured to have you run a couple of Bullieds through for me today, & I think that the new extension board worked a treat.

I managed somehow to keep my meddling newphews far enough away, so at least they could only look, but don't touch ( choke chains & clingfilm do work!)

That little 03 will really look the part once you weave your magic on the weathering, as did the cracking class 22, what a little gem.

It was also lovely to catch up with all of the Barnstaple MRC crew on tour in 'Combe today ( Ray, Big Chris, & Little Chris).

The best comment I overheard today was an old fella, who said 'It looks just as it did in the 50's, & it's like standing on a hill watching it from a distance'

Don't forget, we always have a space for you at our annual exhibition mate, as your layout encapsulates the 'withered arm' perfectly.

Well done buddy, all in all an absolute success. See you soon.

West countryman glad you you liked the layout and seeing it in the flesh !.

This has to be one of the best coments i have had about the layout "The best comment I overheard today was an old fella, who said 'It looks just as it did in the 50's, & it's like standing on a hill watching it from a distance', that made my day and show i have done somthing right!.

Thanks to the helpers today ,you know who you are ,could not have done it without you ,so a big thank you !, and Exmoore Dave for taking over for a loo break.

All in all a good day out and have given me a few more ideas to make the layout better.

So here are a few photo i took druing the day.

HI Darren!

It was good to see Torrington 'in the flesh' after all this time! It looks really good and I was so pleased to see it. I would have offered my help (if wanted!) for a longer period, but with the family in tow, my time was a little restricted. I really enjoyed catching up with you, Richard & Ray and obviously enjoying our great hobby - that's what it is all about!!

Anyway, my best wishes to all & hope to see you guys again soon

Hi Darren,

Thanks for the great day on Saturday. It was a great honour to be helping you out with Torrington. Looking forward to the next one (whenever/ Where-ever).

I was so nice to see so many familiar faces too! And that 03 was really cool!.

Until next time.

Chris

Had a sens of deja-vu a couple of days ago. I have never had the privilege of seeing the layout in the flesh but as I enjoyed a cuppa at the real Torrington station (in the bike shed as the Puffing Billy was shut) after arriving via all stations from Halwill I felt I was in the modelled scene with a steam locomotive simmering gently in the platform.
