Sugar Palm 60526
Absolutely brilliant! I have to say this probably the best exhibition, over many years, I've ever been to as a visitor, exhibitor, or this weekend, as a demonstrator (MERG). A splendid spacious well lit venue that gave plenty of room for folks to see everything in comfort. I don't think I've ever seen such a large selection of excellent layouts. Perhaps the North Eastern bias had something to do with it. My only regret is that we, amongst all the other demonstrators that I could see, were kept busy all weekend and only managed a few rushed tours around the hall to try and see all the delights - and they were there in abundance. I shouldn't single anyone out but I was a bit concerned, before the show, that the excellent photos we have seen of Blackgill might have resulted in a bit of an anti-climax when it was seen in the flesh. I need not have worried. Everyone involved, in whatever capacity, can be proud of a cracking good show.
mr roarke
Hi Many thanks and a big well done to the team at Railex NE. We had a great time up there this weekend. We even had a good run southwards and were home by 9.30pm. It was a great venue especially as all the show was in one large hall. George
George Woodcock
Hello Thanks to all at Blyth Club for inviting us and putting up with us all weekend. Great time was had by all . Pensbridge is now back in its' cupboard till November and the operators are having a lie down. Once again thanks for all the hard work you put in to make it such a good and pleasant experience. Cheers George
RMweb Premium Mallard60022 Posted August 29, 2011 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 29, 2011 OK so this is yet another post from me but I would just like to thank folk for posting their pics. I don't do a very good job with my camera and can't use my phone pic thing properly. I have already decided to come up to next year's show (God willing) and probably stay over at the Durham Premier Inn which I am told by SWMBO is very good value and not too far away. I'd then go and do Beamish or visit my old stamping grounds around Consett or both before tootling home. Alternatively I might just take the train for a day trip. Perhaps in 2013 I could bring the 'new' layout if the club are interested? ('Fraid it would be mostly transition and blue diesel). Thanks again everyone, Phil @ 36E. RMweb Premium ArthurK Posted August 29, 2011 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 29, 2011 I was initially dubious about attending this event. Not being as young as I once was it meant a trip of 150 miles and a two night stay over. But I did make the effort and have not regretted the decision. Not only was it an event by the combined Blyth Club and the NERA but contained many layouts that I wanted to see but which have not been seen within the range of my normal exhibition vistits. I can only repeat the praises of the above posts. However as well as enjoying all the layouts and other goodies on display I was able to meet and talk to the people that I only knew as names through various letters and Emails. By the end of the Saturday (I was there 'til it closed) I was becoming more than a little hoarse. I have not chatted that much for a long time. It was worth it. That you all for spending the time to chat even in the midst of layout operation. Arthur
Arpster
I'd just like to add my thanks to those above. It's the first exhibition I've been to on the other side of the fence in about 15 years and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Yes, it was stressful at time and I was absolutely shattered on Saturday evening after a hectic day of problem-solving, but I had a great time. Thanks to those who organised, helped out, made us tea, gave us words of encouragement, popped by for a chat, gave us a smile when we needed it most and did all the myriad of things behind the scenes that made it such a good show. I managed to get around the hall a couple of times and thought the standard of the layouts was exceptional. If only I'd had more time to stand and watch them! Thanks again to all involved. sixteen 12by 10s
Hi all Well the missus, me and Glenuig, have made it the 230 miles home`, from the show.(we chose an overnight stop on the way back). What a superb weekend, , and well done to Chris and the crew for organizing a first class show, that I was privileged to be part of. The venue is brilliant, the floor the flattest I have ever set up on (an indoor bowling green). The best bit of all, was meeting folks, and the great northern hummer, ( oh, and southern, the lads from Abbey Road). I have a few piccy's to sort out and post, so watch this space Gary and Janice
jwealleans
I was about to post this morning and I see I've made an appearance, in part anyway, behind 'Fryupdale'. I think we were discussing the mechanics of Sentinel railcars at the time. I can only echo what's been said about the show already, some of the highest quality layouts on display and a chance to meet and chat to some very fine modellers. It was a very pleasant surprise to meet Arthur and I'm glad you found the trip worthwhile. In some ways I was disappointed at being there with a layout as I could have spent two days just looking at some of the others. I only got to photograph a few of y personal favourites. I think everyone's highlight was Blackgill; much better photographers than me are going to spend a long time pointing lenses at it, but here are my efforts. I had a chat with Eddie Ford on the Sunday morning and I hope he got the message that whatever problems he sees with it it's a fabulous piece of work. jwealleans
Another layout new to me, although I gather it's been around a while, was Witton.
jwealleans
Finally a few of Marske, which took an hour or so to warm up on the Saturday morning but ran beautifully after that, a credit to Martin's workmanship.
Mac
Chris. What a really good show. I spent four hours there on the Saturday and was impressed with the high standard of some of the layouts. My favourites were the 7mm collieries and Witton 1910 of which I took over 40 photo's(for comparison against Berwick semi roundhouse). Mac.
robertcwp
The weekend improved considerably for the Harton Gill team once we reached the venue (drive up was pretty awful due to weather and heavy traffic) and the exhibition went very well. We had lots of knowledgeable visitors with photos or stories about the Harton Electrlc Railway. Overall a very good show. Blackgill looked very impressive and lots of other good layouts too. Less than four weeks to Harton Gill's next outing (Scaleforum) and some of the crew have another exhibition in between (Eight Dollar Canyon at Woking).
