'CHARD
Another home made Borders rail progress video this one features Ryehaugh to Ferniehirst https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2gOdZ8ux14 Great construction progress record this. Many thanks for taking the time and trouble to capture and post-produce it. Particularly interesting to see the way the mini-projects are linked together around the Gala Water from some of the distance footage. It's also inspired me to do some before and after checking on the still pre-rebirth Google Earth.

fegguk
Here are the last 4 videos in the series that some of you may be following Watching all 9 parts takes about 2 hours, twice the time the train will take. I have quite enjoyed making them and may revisit the sites later in the summer. At least I got my bike out the shed and got some fresh air in the process, though I don't recommend cycling down the A7. davefiddes
Excellent set of videos fegguk! They really gave a sense of the scale of the project. Brave bit of cycling going up the A7. Also really apparent the reason for the worry over expandability of the structures. There's some substantial lumps of concrete that would need expanding for double track. OTOH really pleased to see the railway coming to life...can't wait to ride on it. Any chance of an update in the autumn? You're doing a better job than the official channels in recent weeks! It physically revolted me last time I watched it. It struck me as borderline voyeuristic* in its storyboard. Then I remembered this was the Seventies: The Decade In The Dock. When seemingly everyone in the Establishment's attitude towards children was by today's standards rather suspect. * I would rather use the 'P' word, if I didn't risk having to explain myself

I got scared off trains for a short time, I even refused to enter a DMU depot with my grandfather! Back on topic, I do hope the re-opened line proves successful. airighdrishaig
Successful? Guaranteed. A couple of days ago I met a gent at a small agricultural show in Caithness. We were talking of horses and he told me he can't wait to see this new railway opened as it will let him and his wife get to Kelso Racecourse. Mad McCann
Not one of our new railways has disappointed so far in terms of usage. I don't expect the New Waverley to break that particular mould. I understand that the Tweed Valley has been discussed in a rather low key manner too, certainly as far as Kelso. As cliff erosion increasingly becomes an issue on the ECML north of Berwick, the rationale for a new Tweed Valley option gathers substance. Roy L S
Is the Hardengreen Viaduct going to carry double-track? It certainly looks wide enough to. Roy
'CHARD
Unless I'm very much mistaken that's active provision for later doubling. It's single track over Lothianbridge and through Eskbank as far as I know, and as Hardengreen is between the two.... Need to check now! EDIT: just checked, and the single line starts at Edinburgh Southern Bypass after Shawfair. It redoubles near Fushiebridge I think, but it's definitely single line across Hardengreen. RMweb Premium Welly Posted June 27, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 27, 2014 Transport Scotland are looking for ways to celebrate opening the line. How about the traditional way? Churchbells ringing, bunting on the streets, schoolchildren wavings flags at the official first train, parades through the newly connected towns, civic feast in the townhall for the local worthies and a nosh up (with free beer) in a big tent for everyone else?
