RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted May 12, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 12, 2021 The mojo is starting to return... Having browsed a few layout topics today, I am getting the itch to start making stuff again. I do need to sort the baseboards, so I can plan the track and thus determine the space for the buildings. I've also started to think about SWAG 2022, and whether I can build this in time ( just under 12 months). I do need to get started... 2 2
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted May 13, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 13, 2021 I had the letters cut out for TCATS - The Circle And The Stores in the same Celtic font as used for Tinner's Forge, so have been playing with the various combinations of letters to create suitable name for this layout - waste not, want not, etc. So far I have: Trerice St Trelence St Trelond (you can see a pattern...) Given the combination of the capitals & lower case letters above, what could you come up with ?

Iain Rice made a China clay micro “Trerice” - just to note. 1
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted May 13, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 13, 2021 Trerice is also the name of a National Trust Manor House just outside Newquay, where my daughter got married.

I'm thinking about three prefixes: St, Tre and Lan; and perhaps a total of three syllables, which seem to roll off the tongue nicely. Leave it with me for a while. Edit: Lan won't work, as there's no capital L. Edited May 13, 2021 by St Enodoc

RMweb Gold Harlequin Posted May 13, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 13, 2021 There are a lot of "Cars" in Cornwall and it seems like you have a capital C available, right? (And there are a lot of cars in Cornwall in the season, too.) So how about something like, "Cardinnick"?

RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted May 13, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 13, 2021 (edited) Aston, St Cleer and Treen being actual places in Cornwall Other than that I can only come up with fictitious names St Alene, St Adele, St Alice, St Alister, St ostrich, St TeTrAChloride St Chloride (patron saint of electrolytes!) CroTch And Thistle (possible pub name?) or if you wanted to use all the letters deChlorinAte STreTches TeTrAchloride StenChes (smells a bit like chloroform) Edited May 13, 2021 by chuffinghell 1 4

Jonathan Jonathan, that is extremely generous of you, but I think with St Enodoc's help I have a suitable name now. If I ever think of a Cornish layout (which is unlikely as Cornwall isn't in Wales notwithstanding some linguistic similarities) I would simply use swmbo's maiden name. But your rules didn't allow it as there weren't enough letters and some it would need aren't there anyway. 1
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted May 15, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 15, 2021 Just pondering if I can justify a joint railway terminus between GWR & SR, or later BR(W)& BR(S). It would allow a wider variety of stock, plus require a temporary carriage siding to clear the platform for the 'other' train. And I could then buy a KMRC road van. 2
Mulgabill
If it's the road van, thats the motivation, you could justifiably have one in the BR period, I would have thought. Since it does say they ended in departmental use. so what would / could have been an SR van, from say Wadebridge area, in BR days could turn up on an engineers train, as required in Cornwall. Seems like you've got to get one Stu. (I too could be tempted, but haven't looked up the price, yet). TONY

It happened in a small town on the Isle of Portland so why not in another place in Cornwall?
