Hi John

Writing to Hatchette about anything is as good as watching paint dry John..now the thing has run its course

pity the poor sods who are building the lancaster... ;)

Has anybody rung DJH to see if they have made the same horror of horrors.

What is the point of telling you to paint it in one format if the tranfers dont go on

are DJH and Hatchette totally moronic ..

This highly regarded team of British specialist should be doing somehing else misinformed and not understaning

trains is my domain..

To OzzyO

The nameplates were Mallard and Sir Nigel Gresley only one black plate for the Mallard with B.R Number

the Sir Nigel Gresley too small to read but possibly the right number as it wasent made by Hatchette

I also picked up a gaugemaster 2.5 amp for £30 secondhand..

To Stan

Everthing airbrush is awaiting delivery but mentioned you name hope you didnt mind..

Catch you later folks

Ted

No worries and I'm glad they were able to help you out - what did you go for by the way?

Hi.

If anyone is interested, my A1 is nearing completion, it's not 4472 but 1479, 'Robert the Devil' with a GNR coal rail tender, just wanted to be different. The pictures show 'Robert' approaching the station on my O gauge layout, Bishops Nympton. All the track work is hand built using C & L finscale and I don't have any problems, touch wood, at the present is 'Robert' negotiating the points well. The front pony truck sticks slightly so that will need some re-engineering. I haven't tried the run round points at the end of the station, I susspect that these will be a bit tight. Just to give you guys building this some hope that it should run fine an a railway.

I used a JH motor from MSC Models and a 40:1 gearbox which provides very slow running with my own pickups on each driving wheels. I have no problems with the linkages, all run fine.

All in all I think this seems to be a good model but there are some areas that could be improved.

A very, very good model indeed! Congratulations on being the first (probably) to complete the build and with an alternative tender - certainly puts me to shame!

I too am converting mine to an A3 as 60101 'Cicero' Looking at pictures for research you may want to draw yourself up some front footsteps as well. The middle cylinder cover as you quoted, is, as i belive the AWS barrery box. Dont forget to convert yours to Left hand drive as well!! Incidentally JPL models do some cast superheater covers..

Thanks for that I had totally forgotton the front steps! I've made a start on the valve gear it is very easy to convert it to left hand drive as all of the bits lend themselves to being built in morror image. What are you doing about a tender? I have an A4 kit with a non corridor tender too and will swap the tenders round. I need to work out how to add the streamlined fairing to the Hachette tender for use with the A4. I will worry about that when I get to it (probably in about 10 years knowing me!)

Unfortunately i was one of the few that had to re-sign up to the forum once it had been mooved/improved. Hence the name changeunsure.gif

As was I, but I elected to keep my hirsute moniker ;)

slimited - that loco looks stunning... definitely a silk purse from a sow's ear!

Hi everyone,

two pics of the white metal bits that are used as supports for the plastic tender which I soldered to the tender chassis bottom. I used a cigar lighter and standard 170 deg solder. Does anyone know what type of plastic they're using in this build PET, PVC or PP etc secondly if I were to do the tender sides out of brass does anyone have any suggestions as to how to bend all those curves into the tender body without a rolling tool?

Hi everyone,

I just got issue 97 from the Newsie, but have not been able to get issue 98, which I think is the tender decals (which I'm not going to use anyway) just wondering, are there any instructions in issue 98 relating to the build, or are they only fitting instructions for the decals?

If somebody could advise it would be appreciated.

Hello,

I'm new to the forum. My Dad, Brian Petyt, recently completed the Hachette partwork model Flying Scotsman. On his behalf I am posting some photos of the finished model.

Angela

Part 98 does indeed include the tender lining decals which are for later in the build - I suspect issue 124 or 125 as those are the only two I am waiting for and these decals have not yet put in an apperance in the instructions.

Part 98 covers the fitting of the guard irons to the tender underframe (guard irons from issue 94) and the screwing of the tender underframe (brass bits only as no axleguards by that stage) to the tender chassis. Issue 99 is a tad more interesting in that the loco front buffer beam etch is supplied and the instructions cover making this up and attaching to the loco.

As is clear from my previous posts, I am no fan of the "glue everything together with superglue" approach. Consequently I soldered my buffer beam to the footplate with Phosphoric acid 6% flux and lowmelt solder. If you are versed in the black art of soldering (actually it is quite easy), I would recommend this rather than waiting to watch the buffer beam drop off the first time the loco is shunted a little vigorously.

Hope this helps

Hi All,

Is it possible for someone to post a parts list in PDF or XL of whats in all 125 parts now that all 125 parts are out in the UK?

Here in New Zealand we're up to part 57.

If you can bear with me for a few days, I'll do as you request. I assume that one can post PDFs to the forum?

Issue 57 seems an age ago but you've got some interesting bits coming up next - loco bogie and pony truck in issues 58 - 60 (etched brass). Should make your model start to look more like a loco!

Hi Stan and all,

Yes I can wait ;)

The older list that I have have helped me a couple of times when I've gone to the news agent to pick up my copys and found parts missing without having to open the packet, one of them was the frist driving wheel issue, the wheel was in the pack but northing else but the list told me it should have had the bolt/washer/nut etc so I asked for another copy which had all the parts.
