59th AND RUST ( NOW retired 2021)

Recommended Posts

That is one fantastic layout ....awesome modelling indeed. Really I could just blather on and on. One thing that stands out for me is the quality and realism of the litter, papers and detritus scattered about. Quite frankly I find that to be one of the hardest things to model convincingly....when it is even modelled. Very few modellers, in my experience can pull it off at all let alone as well as it appears on this layout.

Congats on a wonderful job and layout.

Cheers

Gene

I'm not sure which I like the most - the excellent trackwork, the scratch-built buildings, the nicely weathered locomotives and rolling stock, or the myriad small details. I love your Helm layout but this one is giving it a strong run for the money in my book. :locomotive:

What Ray has achieved with this layout is that it looks "RIGHT" - the windblown scattered rubbish, slight air of "dirtyness and grime" and the small details are exactly what we see, but rarely register in life - but subconciously know is "WRONG" when we look at most clean model layouts (but can't put our fingers on what IS wrong) Well done, mate, and can only say that it is a shame that I couldn't get down to see it! TVNAM2014 maybe?

Thanks to Roundhouse my cover is blown, and thanks to everyone for the kind remarks,it's much appreciated.

Everything went ok,only problems was during setup on friday night, my Lenz set through a wobbly, but i got it sorted thanks to Kev.

Got a lot of flattering remarks about the layout, and a couple of people asking how i did this and that, most people said the background sound just finished the layout off (when you could here it stuck between to stands playing dvd's on full volume, which drowned the whole corner where i was situated) also really chuffed that i got a invite to York exhibition, been trying for years to get a invite.

Just a bit of coupling fine tuning and my buddy who helps me needs to have a few more practise nights to work out the best moves when switching.

All in all a good weekend, and happy with the layout performance overall, next outing is my own show at Workington in November.

P.S Like the video Ian,might have a go at that myself.

Well done, Ray! It's a lovely layout in a grotty way...........a real credit to your skills.

Other good news, Al's (Barry Ten's) "Gulf, Atlanta and Eastern" is to be featured in a Model Railroader spread! See his thread.

Best, Pete.

i've done a video of the Erie local switching 2 boxcars,it hasn't come out to bad, still a bit to learn about this video lark, trying to keep it in focus is the worst bit,see what you think!!!!!!!!

The S4 seems loud but it's turned down to 110,you can hear the background noises just!!!!

it took me about 25 mins to switch these 2 boxcars, edited a bit out to save time, like i said still a lot to learn, but its a start!!

Pete

I've a 15 minute sound track that just loops, there's only 2 police sirens and 2 fire sirens, trouble is while moving the camara and setting up the shot, the sound keeps on looping thats why it's seems a busy place(also there's a police department on 59th street :sungum:  :sungum: )

Glad you like the video, going to play about a bit more with the camara, before i do another (PC local).

Ray

p.s the've just had a delivery of new pallets!!!

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi guys, done another video (not much better) this time it's the PC local

todays local is to long for the loop at the end of the branch,so they have to split the train the other side of Rust st.

Don't know what the clicking sound is,sounds like point motors, but i don't have them on this layout,it could be me taking the tops of beer bottles!!!

still a lot to learn with this video lark, don't even know if it's loaded here right!!!

Ray

P.S can you see where i didn't edit it or is it a false coupling!!!

I've also added a tree, this is something i've fancied for a while, looking at all Jon's trees last weekend, give me that push i needed.

The tree's a good hiding place for the local predators, you can just see the Kite sitting on the top branches, and the white cat crouching on the lower branch, probably looking at the same rat!!.

Probably a lot of the small details like that will be missed by the majority of punters at exhibitions,as most just fly by(just another Americ....)but if one or two stop and ask question it's all been worth it.

Only thing i may do is a couple of manhole covers in the road and a storm gate at the edge of the pavement.

Hope you've all enjoyed the journey on the construction of 59th and Rust,i've enjoy building it,now its the fun part exhibiting it,invites are coming in,so you may see it in your part of the country sometime(i hope)

it's out this weekend at my local show,Workington, the last this year,i'll be doing 5-6 next year so look out for me.

Thank you to all those who help me on the way,and for all the kind comments. :stinker:  :stinker:

Ray

p.s i can start on the next journey now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
